I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 319: Chapter 213: The Early Fish Gets the Hook

”Holy shit, what did we miss?” As luck would have it, just as Gu Nan had hauled the dolphinfish onto the deck, Wang Junhe and Guo Xiao emerged from the cabin one after the other.

Seeing such a massive dolphinfish, they both looked like they’d missed the score of a lifetime.

”You missed the big one,” Gu Nan said with a smile after posing for a picture with the fish. ”But I’m not sure if the school of dolphinfish is still around. Why don’t you guys cast a line and see?”

He had originally planned to move the fish to the refrigerated hold before having breakfast, but it seemed that could wait.

”Tsk, tsk, tsk. Every time I go out with you, kid, it’s a real eye-opener. We always run into all sorts of huge fish.” Wang Junhe admired the big fish for a moment, then, without a second thought, he grabbed Gu Nan’s rod, eager to get in on the action.

”Hey, if you’re using Ah Nan’s rod, what am I supposed to use?” Guo Xiao slapped his thigh in regret. He’d wanted to grab it too but had been a step too slow.

”Use your own!” Wang Junhe said, a satisfied look on his face. He hadn’t expected to get a bite the moment he cast his line, but he could already feel a strong pull.

The school of fish clearly hadn’t left. ’Getting to scratch that fishing itch first thing in the morning... this is shaping up to be another great day.’

Resigned, Guo Xiao could only take out his own fishing rod and change the line rig.

In the time he wasted doing that, Wang Junhe had already landed a dolphinfish weighing around seven or eight pounds.

”Aren’t you guys going to eat breakfast?” Gu Nan asked.

”We’ll go in a bit. Gotta fish while the school’s here,” Wang Junhe said, waving a hand. Clearly, fishing was more important than eating.

”Alright then, Brother Guo, could you help me move this big dolphinfish into the refrigerated hold? Chenchen and I are going to eat.”

Without waiting for a reply, the two of them headed into the cabin one after the other.

Guo Xiao: ”...”

’Did I agree to that? And you’re already gone?’

Perhaps because they had eaten nothing but noodles the day before, Yi Chen had made congee this morning, along with three stir-fried side dishes and a pot of steamed meat buns.

The meat buns were frozen, but they were a high-quality brand Guo Xiao had brought along. Once steamed, they were incredibly soft and fluffy, with a delicious filling. They put the average supermarket frozen buns to shame and were even better than what most breakfast shops served.

Gu Nan wolfed down half the pot. Of course, that was all he could take; the rest had to be saved for Yi Chen and the others.

After he finished eating, he didn’t go back out to fish. It was just a school of dolphinfish, and even though he could make some money, he wasn’t that interested.

As the sun climbed higher, the heat outside eventually became too much for Wang Junhe and Guo Xiao. Around ten o’clock, they finally came into the kitchen to have their congee—a meal that was now somewhere between breakfast and lunch.

Figuring the hot weather would kill everyone’s appetite, Yi Chen boiled the mung beans she had brought along. After they were cooked, she set them out to cool so she could chill them in the refrigerator later for a cold mung bean soup.

She also prepared some sour side dishes to help whet their appetites.

Seeing Yi Chen bustling about in the kitchen, Wang Junhe and Guo Xiao were filled with envy. Wang Junhe whispered to Gu Nan, ”You’d better enjoy this special treatment while you can, kid. Once you’re married and have children, this kind of five-star service from your wife will disappear forever. Your kid will be the one getting it all.”

”...” Gu Nan had thought they were about to tell him some big secret. Was that it?

He glanced over at Yi Chen and mused, ”Chenchen is only twenty. Maybe we can wait another seven or eight years before having kids?”

”Heh...” Wang Junhe let out a cold laugh. ”Then you’d have to withstand your parents pestering you for grandchildren!”

Life has two great hurdles: after the pressure to marry comes the pressure for grandchildren.

Gu Nan shivered, suddenly remembering all the creative ways his mom had pressured him to get married just last year.

He sucked in a sharp breath.

He took a deep breath, a sudden realization dawning on him that this was going to be a difficult problem to handle.

Unable to think of a good solution, he could only sigh. ”Whatever. I’ll just put it off one day at a time. So, what’s the plan for this afternoon? Fishing or napping?”

”Let’s take a spin and see. If we find a school, we’ll fish. If not, forget it!” Guo Xiao said, getting up. He went to the helm, started the fishing boat, and began searching the nearby waters.

And what do you know, a good number of fish were already gathering around the boat.

As a secret fishing spot, there might not be too many boats that came here to fish, but it wasn’t completely unknown.

The fish living here had been conditioned by long-term feeding from anglers; they knew there was food to be had underneath these big metal hulks.

And sure enough, a school of fish that hadn’t found enough food that morning began to flock beneath the moving boat.

The proactive fish gets the hook. Sacrifice a few of your buddies, and you get to eat your fill. How could they possibly pass up such a great deal?

Guo Xiao watched the fish finder and quickly spotted a small school. Since the boat was moving, he was completely unaware that the fish had come to him on their own, rather than him finding them.

After stopping the boat and seeing more and more fish gathering below, he clicked his tongue and laughed. ”I’m feeling really lucky on this trip. Look at that! We found a huge school, even in the middle of the day.”

”Yeah, yeah, you’re right...” Wang Junhe nodded perfunctorily. ’This secret fishing spot cost a pretty penny to get access to, after all.’

’If the fishing wasn’t great here, like around the oil rigs, there wouldn’t have been a price to pay.’

Gu Nan glanced at the sun outside and silently began putting on all his gear.

A little heat was fine. The sea breeze made it bearable, and besides, he could fish from the boat’s covered walkway, so it wouldn’t be too hot.

This time, Yi Chen didn’t join the fun. She had to sell fish that afternoon and needed to tally up the orders for the day’s catch from her customer group chat.

Everyone in the group knew they were out at sea, so instead of buying the imported fish from her shop, they all opted to order whatever Gu Nan was catching.

Even the dolphinfish had takers. Apparently, not everyone was as picky an eater.
