I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 318: Chapter 212: Another Fish King

Tossing aside the mangled shrimp bait, he re-baited his hook with a live shrimp. Casting to the same spot, Gu Nan made his second attempt.

Tiger fish were a rare catch, after all, and he wasn’t so lucky with his second cast. He only caught a parrotfish a little over three jin.

Fortunately, his third cast brought a heavy tug. A big one. Gu Nan instantly jerked the rod up to set the hook.

WHIRRR...

The drag screamed as the line peeled out uncontrollably, the rod bending into a deep arc.

The fish had surfaced, but it was already a great distance from the boat.

Gu Nan was slightly surprised. He’d hooked a fast one.

He lifted his rod and gave it a sharp pull, halting the fish’s forward rush. Then, he began to play it.

A fish on the surface was actually easier to reel in.

The seabed was clearly covered in reefs, which was why he was able to catch tiger fish, parrotfish, sea bream, and some groupers. When fishing in a place like this, you had to be careful with line and fish control to prevent the line from fraying or even snapping on the rocks.

Many of the reefs and corals on the bottom were covered in shellfish and oysters. Fish with sharp teeth and strong jaws would feed on them, leaving behind razor-sharp shell fragments. If a fishing line rubbed against them a few times, it would inevitably break.

It was only a ten-jin-or-so fish. Gu Nan tired it out in two minutes, and after another two minutes of reeling, a blue-green mahi-mahi appeared beside the boat.

Mahi-mahi, also known as dolphinfish, doesn’t have good-tasting meat, even worse than a Sea Wolf. It could be sold, but it wasn’t popular.

Gu Nan was disappointed when he saw it. ’At least I can take it back as cat food,’ he thought.

But mahi-mahi had one distinct characteristic: they rarely appeared alone. Since he had caught one, there was a high probability a school of them was down below.

’This secret spot really is something else. Not even a full night has passed, and a second school of fish has already shown up.’

Gu Nan scattered some chum into the water. In less than ten seconds, the surface began to boil. Countless mahi-mahi appeared, all of them seemingly as large as the one he had just caught.

Just then, he heard footsteps on the deck. He turned to see Yi Chen approaching, yawning.

”Up so early? Why don’t you sleep in a little longer?”

”I’m up. Have you eaten yet? I’ll make you breakfast,” Yi Chen said, waving her hand. She had grown used to sleeping in a certain someone’s arms, and without that comfortable embrace, she had woken up not long after he left.

Worried that Gu Nan hadn’t eaten, she had hurried out to check on him.

But before he could reply, she drew closer and heard the sound of splashing water. She peered over the side curiously and immediately spotted the huge number of mahi-mahi feeding on the chum.

”Whoa, so many mahi-mahi?”

”Yeah. I woke up early with nothing to do, so I thought I’d fish for a bit. Didn’t expect a school of mahi-mahi to show up. Their meat isn’t very good, so I was debating whether I should even bother catching them.”

”Catch them! Why not? They’re at least thirty yuan a jin. If they don’t sell well at the shop, we can just sell them to the fishmongers for a lower price. Besides, these aren’t small. Each one is worth at least two hundred yuan.”

Gu Nan heard her and thought it made sense. If they didn’t sell well at the shop, he’d just sell them to the fishmongers. He’d make a profit either way.

”Alright, I’ll keep going then.”

”Okay. I’ll start a livestream for you, then I’ll go make breakfast.”

Yi Chen nodded and hurried to the salon to get the tripod and other equipment. She set the tripod up to Gu Nan’s left, placing it far enough back to capture both him and the sea, ensuring the whole fishing process would be on camera.

She figured not many people would be watching the livestream this early in the morning, so she didn’t think much of it. After setting everything up, she ran off to prepare breakfast.

Gu Nan wasn’t concerned about the livestream either. ’It’s not even eight o’clock yet. Who gets up to watch a livestream this early?’

He cast his hook out and watched as a school of mahi-mahi rushed toward the spot where his bait landed. The next moment, he felt a familiar force.

A man is full of vigor in the morning, and since he hadn’t sought out Yi Chen for a ’workout’ when he woke up, he was now bursting with energy.

Feeling the pull, he could tell this one wasn’t as big as the last. He decided to use brute force, yanking a seven- or eight-jin mahi-mahi straight out of the water.

In reality, while there were few people watching the stream at this hour, it wasn’t completely empty.

There were a few dozen people in the stream at that moment. When they saw a seven- or eight-jin fish get pulled up without a fight, the dozen or so anglers in the audience were left dumbfounded.

Only a true angler knew how much power a saltwater fish had, especially a seven- or eight-jin mahi-mahi known for its powerful runs. Who among them would dare claim they could fish like Gu Nan? They’d have to play a fish that size for several minutes at least.

[Damn, that strength! Has he been eating spinach?!]

[Hiss... No wonder the boss’s wife, who we just glimpsed, was glowing. She looked so pure yet alluring, more charming than ever. So it’s all thanks to the boss ’nurturing’ her!]

[Well now, looks like a perv has infiltrated us anglers!]

[Hey, what makes you say that?]

[What makes me say that? That power of observation. We anglers look at the fish first. Only a perv looks at the woman first.]

[LMAO, that makes so much sense, I’m speechless.]

Of course, Gu Nan couldn’t just yank in every fish like that. He did it three or four times before he started playing them properly. Fishing that way was just too exhausting.

”Ah Nan, breakfast is ready!”

”Okay, I’ll come after this cast!”

It was quite a coincidence; Gu Nan had just thrown his baited hook out. He decided he might as well catch one more fish before eating.

With a school around, getting a bite was practically guaranteed. The next second, his line went taut. Knowing he had a fish on, he quickly lifted the rod to set the hook, only to be met with a tremendous force that almost ripped the rod from his hands.

Gu Nan reacted instantly, yanking the rod back with all his might, desperately trying to pull it upward.

The hook was set deep. Pained, the fish leaped out of the water, giving the livestream viewers the shock of a lifetime.

[Holy crap! That’s a huge mahi-mahi!]

[It has to be at least two meters long!]

[The boss can’t be the Dragon King’s illegitimate son, can he? Yesterday it was a super-sized silver pomfret from a school of them, and today he gets a king from a school of mahi-mahi?]

[I’m so jealous! When will I ever get to catch a two-meter fish?]

The livestream chat, which had been quiet for a while, erupted with activity again, and the viewer count began to climb rapidly.

After a full night and morning of streaming, the regular viewers all knew Gu Nan wasn’t faking it; he was really out at sea fishing.

Gu Nan didn’t feel particularly excited or overjoyed about hooking a big fish. No matter how big it was, it was still just a mahi-mahi.

Besides, he caught big fish all the time. What was a mahi-mahi to him?

The fight this big mahi-mahi was putting up was top-notch, though. It kept running, its power unparalleled. It was honestly no worse than a small marlin.

CREAK... CREAK...

The blue fishing rod couldn’t handle the strain. A two-meter mahi-mahi was pushing it to its limits, making it look like it was about to snap at any moment.

But Gu Nan wasn’t worried. The rod could still hold.

The only thing that annoyed him was how fast the fish was running. In just ten-odd seconds, it had easily peeled off seventy or eighty meters of line.

’A fast runner takes time to reel in, and I still have to eat breakfast!’

Gu Nan gritted his teeth. ’Damn it, it’s making me late for breakfast.’ He then unleashed his full strength. The muscles in his arms bulged, veins popping, and the sheer display of testosterone left the livestream viewers reeling.

Some of the fujoshi who had wandered into the wrong stream started stirring things up in the chat.

Fortunately, mahi-mahi have a relatively lean build. At the same length, they weigh far less than a marlin.

It wouldn’t be too exhausting for Gu Nan to land it. Unfortunately, for now, all he could do was try his best to wear the fish down; he had no other options against it.

He did his best to keep the rod up, locking the drag to prevent the fish from easily running further. He even pressed down on the handle from time to time, interrupting the fish’s sprinting rhythm.

’A pity this isn’t the golden rod, or this would be easy.’

With him putting in so much effort, the mahi-mahi in the distance slowed down. The rate at which the line was being pulled out decreased significantly.

The mahi-mahi also sensed something was wrong. It started thrashing its head wildly to shake the hook, leaping out of the water each time.

This forced Gu Nan to jerk the rod up periodically to reset the hook, preventing it from coming loose and being thrown.

But the fish repeatedly jumping out of the water was a good thing for him; it would tire itself out faster.

”Huh, did you hook a big one?”

After calling him for breakfast and getting no response, Yi Chen came out to take a look. She reached the deck only to find Gu Nan battling a huge fish.

”Yeah, but it’s another mahi-mahi. When it jumped just now, it looked like it was two meters long!”

”Wow, they get that big? You can do it!”

Yi Chen cheered him on from the side, then turned her attention to the livestream chat. She had seen him catch plenty of big fish, so she no longer got as flustered as she used to.

The mahi-mahi truly lived up to its reputation as a favorite game fish among anglers; its stamina was incredible.

It struggled wildly for over ten minutes, pulling out nearly two hundred meters of line, yet it showed no signs of fatigue.

Fortunately, Gu Nan was different now, too. He expended less stamina, and his recovery rate was faster. He didn’t have to just hug the rod, and he continued to jerk it intermittently as before.

It was like whipping a tired horse to make it keep running.

Half an hour passed. The mahi-mahi’s runs grew slower and slower. No matter how Gu Nan pumped the rod, it no longer made an effort to flee.

He knew the fish was exhausted. It was clearly time for him to reap his reward.

But by now, over four hundred meters of line were out. It would take him a good while just to reel it all in.

Gu Nan had Yi Chen bring him the fighting belt and strap it on. He then braced the butt of the rod against the belt and began pumping the rod up and down, rapidly reeling in the line.

The posture was indeed a bit indecent, but to eat his breakfast sooner, he threw caution to the wind.

The atmosphere in the livestream chat was certainly affected by his movements. The few fujoshi in the audience, at least, were going wild.

Yi Chen pouted as she watched. If they hadn’t already joined the group chat to place orders for fish, she would have kicked them from the stream long ago.

All in all, it took nearly an hour. Before the stunned eyes of the anglers in the chat, a giant, two-meter-long mahi-mahi appeared beside the boat.

Yi Chen quickly grabbed the camera for a close-up shot, giving the viewers a more direct look at the fish.

A fish this big wasn’t a common sight. The anglers in the chat all exclaimed that it was an incredible experience.

After getting the shot, however, she put the camera back on the tripod and began to help bring the fish aboard.

The fish in the water alone wasn’t enough to convey its size. But with a person next to it for scale, the viewers finally understood just how big a two-meter fish really was.
