I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 307 -205: Not Enough Fish to Catch in a Small School

While Gu Nan was free to go fishing, Guo Xiao, who had been busy for several days straight, finally had some time off as well.

And so, the moment he got home that evening and saw his wife, Cheng Jing, in sexy lingerie, he decisively chose to go sea fishing instead.

Cheng Jing immediately rolled her eyes at him several times, but since they had agreed he could have one week of sea fishing a month, she couldn’t really go back on her word.

Guo Xiao fled the house and planned to call Wang Junhe and Gu Nan to join him.

As it turned out, Old Wang was still away on business. As for the other, he couldn’t even get through; the call wouldn’t connect, saying the number was out of the service area.

Gu Nan figured he’d be getting his new boat in just over two months, so he hadn’t bothered to get a satellite phone plan.

Besides, if anyone really needed to reach him, they could just call the satellite phone on his boat.

And just then, Gu Nan, having already caught seven red seabream in a row, suddenly heard the satellite phone ring.

Whenever that thing rang, it always made your heart jump into your throat.

Gu Nan quickly reeled in his line and ran to answer it. It was Guo Xiao, asking where he was and saying he wanted to come fish together.

An idea immediately sparked in his mind. He thought of Guo Xiao’s big boat. ‘It would be so much better to go deep-sea fishing on a big boat like that.’

But, including today, his daily attempts had already accumulated for four days, adding up to two hundred and eighty attempts in total.

‘A deep-sea trip would probably take at least three days. The daily attempts only accumulate for a week at most, so I definitely wouldn’t have enough time after I get back.’

So, Gu Nan didn’t bring up the idea of a deep-sea trip and just gave Guo Xiao his location instead.

An hour and a half later, Guo Xiao’s boat pulled up alongside his.

Seeing that he was alone, Gu Nan asked, puzzled, “Brother Guo, why are you by yourself? Where’s Brother Wang?”

Guo Xiao said, “That guy’s still on his business trip. If he were back, I wouldn’t have asked for your location. I would’ve just told you to head back to shore so we could all go deep-sea fishing together.”

“Oh, I see!”

Gu Nan had a moment of realization, and his slight internal conflict vanished. ‘Now I don’t have to worry about how to convince them to go deep-sea fishing in a couple of days. They’ll probably be the ones to ask me when the time comes.’

“Yeah, once Old Wang is back, we’ll all go deep-sea fishing for a couple of days.”

“Sounds good. Just let me know a day in advance.”

“Of course. Fishing just isn’t the same without you. How’s the bite tonight? My fish finder says this spot is loaded.”

“It’s been pretty good. I caught a bunch of red seabream and rabbitfish before you got here. Brother Guo, you should just fish around here. No need to find another spot; they’re probably all about the same.”

“Well then, don’t mind if I do!”

With that, Guo Xiao returned to his helm, moved the boat a short distance away, and prepared to fish.

You could never just muscle in on a stranger’s fishing spot, but since they were good friends and Gu Nan had made the offer, he wasn’t going to waste time searching for another location.

It wasn’t easy to chat when they were on separate boats, so Gu Nan simply went back to his own fishing.

Perhaps Guo Xiao brought some good luck with him, because the moment Gu Nan’s line hit the water, his float vanished before he could even react. An instant later, his rod bent sharply and the reel screamed as line peeled out. ZZZZZZ!

‘Judging by the speed the line is peeling out, this is a big one.’

Gu Nan quickly jerked the rod to set the hook. Feeling the pull, he figured it had to be at least ten pounds.

The pull was a stark contrast to the red seabream from earlier. This was a real thrill.

Gu Nan quickly cranked the reel, pumping the rod every so often to counter the fish’s frantic struggles.

A fish over ten pounds gave a satisfying fight without requiring the long, strategic battle of a hundred-pounder. He simply muscled it in, and in just a short while, he had the fish at the surface.

In the beam of his light, he saw a flash of silver.

As he pulled it closer, he saw it was a Sea Bass, and a big one at that—over eighty centimeters long.

Gu Nan grabbed his landing net and scooped the fish aboard. He lifted it with his fish gripper and glanced at the built-in scale.

Not bad at all. 17.2 pounds.

A Sea Bass over fifteen pounds could still fetch a great price.

“Ah Nan~”

Just then, a shout echoed across the water. Gu Nan looked up and saw it was Guo Xiao calling him from the other boat.

He was holding up a forty-to-fifty-centimeter Sea Bass, probably around five or six pounds, and excitedly showing it off.

Gu Nan grinned and simply hoisted his own Sea Bass high in the air.

Guo Xiao’s smile visibly froze. An instant later, he tossed his fish into the livewell and pretended nothing had happened.

Gu Nan shook his head, amused. ‘If you’re going to show off your catch to me, you’ve got to have something a little more impressive than that!’

‘A Sea Bass that’s only half a meter long? That’s way too common.’

But seeing Guo Xiao’s reaction gave Gu Nan an idea: maybe he should start livestreaming his fishing trips.

‘It’s not that he wanted to become a streamer or make money from it. He just figured that most anglers only ever got to catch little minnows and small carp.’

‘He just wanted to kindly broaden their horizons, show them how to catch huge Sea Bass, massive snapper, and even bigfin tuna. It was definitely, absolutely not about making them all jealous!’

‘It’s decided. He’d set one up the next chance he got.’

‘Thanks to that giant grouper incident at the old restaurant, Yi Chen’s account has a decent following. He could try using her account for it.’

Since Guo Xiao had also caught a Sea Bass, Gu Nan guessed a school must have moved into the area.

He’d have to keep fishing to be sure, though. Sea Bass could be solitary hunters, but they also formed massive schools.

Large schools usually only appeared around Yangjiang Port from late October to November. That was when the Sea Bass needed to pack on fat for the winter and would come out to feed in huge groups.

Still, September was also part of the bass season, so running into a school wasn’t entirely out of the question.
