I Can Fish Up Everything!

Chapter 326: Chapter 219: The Filthy Rich Fish Biting a Gold Brick

Technically, he didn’t need to chum when using his daily guaranteed catch attempts, but in deep-sea mode, chumming still made a huge difference.

Not only did it gather the local fish schools, but it also increased the hook-up rate for fish from the game map.

Gu Nan had figured this out back when the game first bonded with him. He had fewer daily attempts then, so he basically chummed every time he went fishing.

It was only after his daily attempts increased and he could accumulate them that he stopped bothering with it.

But it wasn’t right for an angler to skip chumming. As a professional fisherman, he had to respect the profession.

What kind of angler doesn’t chum? You might anger the sea goddess, and then she’ll get stingy with her fish.

It was already very late, and Gu Nan hadn’t encountered many other boats out on the sea.

Since he was fishing for fish from the game map, he needed to find a secluded spot.

Besides, his main target for this trip was the Dogtooth Fish, and he needed to find a spot five hundred meters deep to catch one, which was quite a hassle.

After two hours, Gu Nan finally found a spot that was over five hundred seventy meters deep.

The sonar fish finder on his fishing boat was decent enough, providing a clear reading of the conditions at this depth.

Gu Nan had never tested the device’s limits, but he didn’t really care. Being able to get a clear reading at five hundred meters was more than enough.

He installed two rod holders on the gunwale, then rigged the lines on two rods and mounted them.

He glanced at the stickers in his inventory. If he used both types together, he had enough for over one hundred twenty uses.

There seemed to be a monthly limit on how many stickers he could get. He usually got about one hundred fifty of the two types of buff stickers a month, after which drift bottles would basically stop appearing when he fished.

Having too many of them wasn’t actually that useful for Gu Nan anyway. He could have all sorts of big fish show up at his shop, but he couldn’t overdo it.

Most of the time, he delivered his big fish or other seafood directly to places like hotels, selling them off to various buyers instead of bringing everything to his shop.

Sometimes, Gu Nan would even claim he had no large stock for a whole week, making people wait.

’You have to make money quietly, so you don’t cause trouble for yourself.’

His catches were too big and too high-quality. The hotels and other beneficiaries were fine, but Gu Nan still had to be wary of the knowledgeable seafood shops nearby.

He also understood now why the game had opened up deep-sea mode. The fish he caught were of varying sizes, and while the proportion of big fish was still high, it was clearly much more normal.

As for the blue-bodied Large-spot Grouper in his inventory, Gu Nan planned to find a chance to contact Brother Wang in the next few days.

He’d see how things went in the second half of the year. He might sell this big one, but he most likely wouldn’t sell another. He’d wait until next year to think about it.

With both electric reel rods set up, Gu Nan mounted them on the holders, but he was only using the Seven Star Rod for now.

An electric reel was too slow against a Dogtooth Fish weighing over two hundred pounds; he needed to assist it manually.

He would first catch a Legendary one to get the quest reward and obtain the golden Bering Sea fishing rod. After that, it wouldn’t matter if the process was a bit slow.

He applied two stickers, dropped the lure into the water, and then pressed the button to rapidly release the line. He’d use a guaranteed catch attempt once the lure reached the bottom.

He had some fish guts nearby but didn’t use them for chum. The water here was too deep. He planned to move to a shallower spot after catching three Dogtooth Fish.

After a moment, seeing the depth on the screen exceed five hundred meters, Gu Nan immediately used a daily guaranteed catch attempt and pressed the button to stop the line.

Five hundred meters was deep enough to fish for an Elite BOSS; the lure didn’t need to go all the way to the seafloor.

About ten seconds later, the rod suddenly jerked, but the Elite BOSS icon didn’t appear on the water’s surface.

Gu Nan wasn’t disappointed. ’It’s only the first cast. If a BOSS was that easy to hook, it wouldn’t be a BOSS.’

Time trickled by, and over an hour passed without him noticing. The fishing was inefficient due to the depth; so far, he had only caught two Emperor Crabs, three lobsters, and six fish.

Fortunately, on the next cast, the Elite BOSS icon finally appeared on the water’s surface. Gu Nan’s spirits lifted. ’Finally!’

He quickly pressed the button to reel in, but the rod only shuddered. The line didn’t come in; instead, it continued to spool out, the rod bending even more under the two opposing forces.

”CREAK... CREAK...”

The golden Seven Star boat rod bent into an inverted U-shape. As expected of a catch weighing over two hundred pounds—none of them were easy to land.

Gu Nan grabbed the body of the rod with one hand, lifting it, while his other hand gripped the reel handle, working with the electric reel to stop the line from spooling out.

Veins bulged on his arms; clearly, this fish was giving him a tough fight.

It was already late, and he needed to land this fish as quickly as possible. Afterward, he still had to open a treasure chest and enter the Trial Tower to get the golden fishing rod, which would take at least an hour.

He kept maximum pressure on the rod, forcing the Dogtooth Fish deep below to expend immense energy for every meter it ran.

Unlike tuna, a Dogtooth Fish doesn’t suffer from oxygen deprivation if it stops moving. Its swimming speed slowed, but its strength hadn’t diminished in the slightest.

Gu Nan held on, maintaining the stalemate. It wouldn’t be long before the rod slowly sapped the fish’s stamina.

Sure enough, in less than half an hour, the overheating electric reel began to slowly retrieve the line. As he cranked the handle in sync, the line came in faster and faster.

With the cheat-like power of the golden rod, this massive fish from the deep sea, weighing over two hundred pounds, was easily brought under control by Gu Nan.

If it hadn’t been the middle of summer, he might not have even broken a sweat.

By the time the fish reached the surface, it was already on its last breath. Gu Nan quickly hoisted it aboard with the davit, then removed the hook and stored the fish in his inventory.
