Chapter 242: Chapter 242: The Importance of Endurance

By this point in the battle, the two had already exchanged over a hundred blows. The qi and blood in their bodies were in turmoil, and trickles of fresh blood flowed from their mouths.

It was an extremely unpleasant feeling; the shockwaves from each other’s Elemental Power had injured them both.

’The Vajra Body... It really does increase his strength severalfold.’ As they continued to clash, Lin Yun deduced the function of the Vajra Body: it could forcibly enhance a Martial Artist’s strength.

’Dammit...!’ Unable to take down Lin Yun after so long, Lang Dan was growing impatient. If this dragged on, his body wouldn’t be able to bear the strain of the Vajra Body. When that happened, forget Lin Yun—even a random Martial Artist at the Ninth Layer of Qi Sea Realm would be able to defeat him.

”Your Vajra Body must have some side effects, right?” Lin Yun asked Lang Dan. Any Cultivation Technique that forcibly enhanced a Martial Artist’s power was bound to have side effects; the only question was their severity.

Hearing this, Lang Dan snorted coldly. ”Hmph. Even if there are side effects, I’ll have more than enough time to kill you before then.”

’I have fifteen minutes at most. I have to kill him within that time,’ Lang Dan thought. After fifteen minutes, he would enter his Weakness Stage.

Raising his fists, he charged forward again. Lang Dan had no way out. If he couldn’t kill Lin Yun within fifteen minutes, then all that awaited him was death at Lin Yun’s hands.

Abandoning all defense, Lang Dan launched a frenzied assault on Lin Yun. He had to race against the clock; he couldn’t afford to waste any more time.

Seeing Lang Dan’s reckless assault, Lin Yun grew even more certain of his guess. ’Lang Dan doesn’t have much time left. As long as I can hold out, killing him will be a simple matter.’

Using Inch Step, Lin Yun continuously dodged Lang Dan’s attacks, giving him no opportunity for a decisive head-on confrontation. What infuriated Lang Dan was that Lin Yun was significantly faster. If Lin Yun refused to engage him directly, Lang Dan had no chance of landing a decisive blow.

Unable to catch up to Lin Yun, Lang Dan roared, ”Is running all you know how to do?”

Hearing this, Lin Yun remained completely unprovoked. He replied calmly, ”Speed is a part of a Martial Artist’s strength. Once your side effects kick in, believe me, killing you will be effortless.”

Gritting his teeth, Lang Dan found himself completely out of options. He wanted to go all out against Lin Yun, but his opponent refused to give him the chance, simply waiting for him to enter his Weakness Stage before delivering the killing blow.

’Dammit,’ Lang Dan cursed inwardly.

The longer this dragged on, the worse it was for Lang Dan. The thought of retreating had already begun to form in his mind. He absolutely could not let Lin Yun catch him during his Weakness Stage; otherwise, his doom would be sealed.

A resolute glint flashed in his eyes. When his life was on the line, things like face and dignity were worthless. The only thing that mattered was survival. Without his life, everything else was meaningless.

”Thinking of running?” Lin Yun said with a smile, having noticed the intent to retreat in Lang Dan’s eyes.

”Hmph. The next time we meet will be the day you die,” Lang Dan declared. As soon as the words left his mouth, he spun around and fled into the distance without looking back.

”You think you can escape?” Chasing after him, Lin Yun, who was a notch faster, quickly closed the distance.

The very instant Lin Yun caught up, a smile suddenly appeared on the face of the frantically fleeing Lang Dan. Without hesitation, he threw a punch directly at Lin Yun.

Not expecting that Lang Dan had intentionally baited him, Lin Yun faced the incoming punch by holding his Demon Bone Heaven-Dominating Spear horizontally across his chest, forcefully blocking the attack.

Blown back several dozen meters, a sweet taste rose in Lin Yun’s throat as he spat out a large mouthful of blood. That punch had injured him severely.

”Haha! Today is the day you die! You’re nowhere near my level!” Having successfully injured Lin Yun, Lang Dan let out a great laugh and charged at him.

Having lost the initiative and now being pinned down by Lang Dan, Lin Yun’s expression turned cold. ’If you want a direct confrontation, then I’ll give you one.’

The Bone Spear in his hand blazed with intense flames. Lin Yun stopped dodging and began to clash with Lang Dan head-on.

”You’re overestimating yourself. Do you really think you can stand against my Vajra Body?” A smile spread across Lang Dan’s face as he saw Lin Yun attack instead of evading. This was the exact result he had been hoping for.

The two clashed violently. Lang Dan, empowered by his Vajra Body, held the advantage. Although both were injured by the shockwaves from each collision, after several exchanges, the Vajra Body had absorbed a significant amount of the damage for Lang Dan.

Lin Yun, in contrast, had already coughed up several mouthfuls of blood, and the qi and blood within his body were in complete chaos.

”Haha! Watch me break every bone in your body, one by one!” Lang Dan laughed, seizing the moment Lin Yun was sent flying to land a heavy punch on his abdomen.

Taking the heavy blow, Lin Yun violently spat out a large mouthful of blood as his body slammed hard against a large tree.

”You’re seriously injured now! Haha! Get on your knees, kowtow three times, and call me ’Grandpa,’ and I’ll give you a quick death.” Having completely seized the advantage, Lang Dan was ecstatic. The current Lin Yun was a shadow of his former self in both power and speed.

COUGH, COUGH, COUGH... Spitting up more blood, Lin Yun showed no signs of panic. Instead, his eyes were exceptionally calm.

He calmly weighed his options. ’Lang Dan has the upper hand in a direct confrontation, but that’s only because of the Vajra Body. Once that wears off, he’ll be no threat at all.’

’Attrition.’ A plan quickly formed in Lin Yun’s mind. ’I’ll force him to burn through his energy and reach the Limit of his Vajra Body as quickly as possible. As long as I can force him out of that state, killing him will be easy.’

And in a battle of attrition, Lin Yun had an ace that no one else did: a Qi Sea far beyond that of an ordinary person. His Qi Sea was ten times the size of a typical Martial Artist’s, granting him a terrifyingly vast reserve of Elemental Power.

Combined with his Flawless Flesh Body, Lin Yun was confident he could push Lang Dan’s Vajra Body to its Limit long before his own Elemental Power was depleted.

”Thunderfire Bombardment!” With a low cry, Lin Yun unleashed the attack.

At the moment, Thunderfire Bombardment was the only attack in his arsenal that could truly threaten Lang Dan. To defend against it, Lang Dan would have to use his full power.

”Hmph. Stubborn fool,” Lang Dan snorted upon seeing Lin Yun unleash Thunderfire Bombardment.

They clashed head-on. Immediately after the impact, Lin Yun unleashed Thunderfire Bombardment again. Left with no choice, Lang Dan could only resist with his full strength.

A second time, a third, a fourth...

By the time Lin Yun unleashed Thunderfire Bombardment for a fifth time, Lang Dan’s face had turned incredibly grim.

’His Elemental Power still isn’t depleted? This is bad,’ Lang Dan thought. ’The recent clashes have forced my Vajra Body to its Limit ahead of schedule. I have a hundred breaths at most before I enter the Weakness Stage.’

Lang Dan was caught in a dilemma. He couldn’t run, but he couldn’t stay. He wasn’t sure he could escape if he tried to flee. But if he stayed and Lin Yun still had Elemental Power left, entering the Weakness Stage would spell his doom.

’Hmph, I refuse to believe your Elemental Power is inexhaustible!’ Steeling his resolve, Lang Dan decided to meet Lin Yun head-on. ’I still have a hundred breaths. That’s enough time. By my calculations, this Thunderfire Bombardment must have used up the last of his Elemental Power.’
