Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 489: Chapter 265: No Amount of Money Can Buy My Willingness (Second Update)

Lawrence Winters is actually very good at driving.

So good that when she first learned to drive at sixteen, she took Nick Zeller straight onto the highway.

After a high-speed drive, Nick Zeller got out of the car and vomited.

Not because of car sickness, but because he was scared.

Later, since Lawrence Winters drove ”too” well, Gabrielle Winters and Nick Zeller weren’t comfortable letting her drive alone, so they didn’t buy her a car.

Now that Nick Zeller is voluntarily offering to buy her a car, it’s like the sun rose from the west.

Of course, Lawrence Winters wasn’t going to refuse and jokingly said, ”Sure, Uncle. I’ve been thinking about buying a car; how about a Ferrari racing car?”

”No way! Too expensive! We don’t have that kind of money!” Nick Zeller immediately refused. ”Besides, why would a girl like you drive a car like that? It’s so unladylike. We should go for a simple family sedan—that’ll do, right? Do you really want to race?”

Lawrence Winters tilted her head with a smile, ”Of course. I can drive a regular sedan with racing style!”

Kenneth Osborne glanced at her.

Lawrence Winters remembered what happened on New Year’s Eve and suddenly became obedient, saying meekly, ”...I was just joking, Uncle, don’t mind me.”

”You’re joking with me? I’m still your uncle, aren’t I?” Nick Zeller snorted but noticed Kenneth Osborne signaling to Lawrence Winters earlier.

This action made him feel uncomfortable, as if there was a secret between Kenneth Osborne and Lawrence Winters that no one else could know.

Nick Zeller thought about how he was no longer the person Lawrence Winters shared the most secrets with, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit melancholic.

...

Because she was going to buy a car, Lawrence Winters didn’t do much work in the morning but kept searching through car models on her phone.

After searching for a while, she selected a BMW 5 Series model.

This model is considered the entry-level luxury car, key features include an 8-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive. It’s very fast during acceleration, comparable to a sports car.

She also likes the deep sapphire blue color, which looks noble and mysterious, matching her ”Heavenly Master” identity.

At noon, while having lunch, Edward Foster came to her saying he had some business to discuss, but the moment he saw the ring on her left middle finger, his face immediately fell.

He stared at Lawrence Winters’ hand for a long time and asked, ”...Is this... something you bought yourself?”

Lawrence Winters glanced at him with a smile, ”Would I put it on my left middle finger if I bought it myself?—This is an engagement ring.”

”What?! You’re engaged?!” Edward Foster practically jumped three feet high, his face flushed red, ”When did this happen?! How come I didn’t know?!”

”I’m just getting engaged; why do I have to tell you? Besides, don’t you know now?” Lawrence Winters laughed and stretched out her right hand in front of Edward Foster, ”Unless you’re planning to give me a wedding gift, Mr. Foster?”

Edward Foster looked at Lawrence Winters’ teasing expression, wishing he could slap her hand.

”Aren’t you just twenty years old? Why are you getting engaged so early?” Edward Foster’s mood suddenly soured, not wanting to discuss business anymore. He crossed his legs in front of Lawrence Winters, complaining, ”Look at that diamond; is it even one carat? It’s tiny like a grain of rice; who’s this stingy? Can’t even afford a big diamond ring.”

Lawrence Winters didn’t get angry but looked at the diamond ring on her hand, saying, ”I think it’s beautiful. Besides, why would you need a big diamond for daily wear? If it accidentally falls, I’d cry my eyes out.”

”How could it? Good diamond rings are securely mounted; how could they fall?!” Edward Foster sneered, ”Is it Kenneth Osborne who bought it for you? His company isn’t small; can’t he afford a bigger diamond ring for you? What’s the point in marrying a man like that?”

Lawrence Winters replied with a smile, ”I’m willing; nothing can buy this willingly. Besides, this is just the engagement ring for everyday wear; I also have another engagement ring from his proposal. The diamond on that one is three carats. But wearing it daily is pointless—a three-carat diamond ring, even if I’m not worried about the diamond falling off, the band is so big, it’s inconvenient to wear.”

Edward Foster’s mood got even worse, replying, ”Who buys two engagement rings for one engagement? Are they planning to marry twice?”

”Mind your own business!” Lawrence Winters was displeased, frowning slightly, ”These are engagement rings, not wedding rings; how could I marry twice?! Don’t talk nonsense!”

Seeing that Lawrence Winters was genuinely angry, Edward Foster hastily apologized, ”Alright, my mistake; I shouldn’t have said anything rash.”

He stared at the ring on Lawrence Winters’ hand for a long while before standing up, saying, ”Alright, go have lunch; I’ve got things to do, so I’ll leave first.”

After he left, Lawrence Winters went to have lunch.

Edward Foster returned to his office and immediately called Lucas Harlow.

Lucas Harlow was also having lunch at this time, holding a bowl of packed lunch in the break room, about to eat.

Seeing Edward Foster’s call, he answered curiously, ”Calling me at this time, are you planning to invite me to lunch?”

”Lunch?” Edward Foster sneered, ”I can’t eat, and I don’t want you to eat either.”

Lucas Harlow: ”...”

”I’ll tell you something; you’re sure to lose your appetite too.” Edward Foster continued, ”Lawrence is engaged.”

Lucas Harlow: ”...”

He looked again at his gourmet packed lunch, indeed losing his appetite.

He slammed his chopsticks onto the table with a snap, saying unhappily, ”Couldn’t you wait until I finished lunch? I have several action scenes in the afternoon; if I don’t eat well, I’ll be out of sorts.”

”That’s not my concern. Since you’re unhappy too, I can split my unhappiness, and now it’s only half, hahaha...” With that, Edward Foster hung up the phone.

He seemed to have let go, but he knew he hadn’t.

His face was smiling, but his heart felt heavy.

After laughing for a while, one hand clenched into a fist resting on his forehead, a faint cool dampness appearing at the corner of his eye.

Edward Foster touched his face, realizing there was water... no, it was tears.

Shit! He actually cried.

Edward Foster grabbed a tissue and randomly wiped his face.

What’s there to cry about?

She’s not your girlfriend, nor your fiancée, let alone your wife, so why do you feel like you’ve been cheated on?

Edward Foster felt that he had invested too much emotion in Lawrence Winters recently, which led to these strange thoughts.

He walked over to the window and stood there, looking at the skyline of the city, and said fiercely, ”So what if they’re engaged? You can still get divorced after marriage! — Just wait and see!”

...

In the afternoon, after work, Nick Zeller drove to pick up Lawrence Winters to go car shopping at the dealership.

They had already discussed over the phone earlier to go look at BMWs.

Nick Zeller initially hesitated, saying that BMW was too expensive, but Lawrence Winters only mentioned the ”Three No’s” principle briefly, and Nick Zeller complied, saying, ”BMW it is, the 3-Series isn’t that expensive.”

Lawrence Winters held up five fingers, smiling as he said, ”At least make it the 5-Series, or you can buy me a 7-Series.”

”Not a chance! Just the 5-Series!” Nick Zeller hurriedly stopped Lawrence Winters from daydreaming further, muttering, ”You get a BMW for your engagement, what can I give for your marriage?”

”You could give me a house.” Lawrence Winters said with a smile, ”I’m not greedy, just a two-bedroom in a good school district is enough, just for me to live in.”

”Why would you live alone after getting married? That’s nonsense!” Nick Zeller glared at her, ”Besides, the house we live in now is already in your name, it’ll all be yours in the future, why do you want so many houses?”

Lawrence Winters scoffed, ”Uncle, isn’t this what I learned from you? How many houses have you bought all over the country? Do you need an Excel spreadsheet to manage them?”

”You’re such a clever little rascal!” Nick Zeller felt proud, ”But I’ve already dealt with a batch of my properties. Houses, it’s quality over quantity, having too many is troublesome.”

”You must have made quite a profit. If I had known, I would ask for a BMW 7-Series.” Lawrence Winters said regretfully, fastening the seatbelt.

”The BMW 7-Series isn’t suitable for young women; it’s for older folks.” Nick Zeller kindly advised her, ”And the 5-Series is suitable for middle-aged drivers. You’re a delicate young lady of twenty, the BMW 3-Series is more fitting.”

Lawrence Winters was momentarily fooled by Nick Zeller’s age reasoning.

When she left the BMW dealership, driving a dainty BMW 3-Series sedan, she realized it only had a four-cylinder engine, incapable of any ”Thelma & Louise” highway escapades...

It was no match for her uncle’s Grand Cherokee in terms of power.

”Uncle is so devious!” Lawrence Winters angrily pounded the steering wheel.

Moreover, the BMW 3-Series was way cheaper than the 5-Series.

The BMW 5-Series could barely count as an entry-level luxury car, but the 3-Series was merely practical and economical.

Aside from the BMW logo to show off.

She and Nick Zeller drove one after the other back to the neighborhood where they lived.

It was almost seven in the evening by then.

As they drove into the entrance of the neighborhood, they saw a stretch limousine parked at the gate.

Lawrence Winters couldn’t help but glance at it.

She happened to see the door of the stretch limo being opened, and a woman elegantly stepping out with a child.

Her figure looked very familiar.

Lawrence Winters twitched the corner of her mouth, thinking it couldn’t be the person she was imagining.

Then two more people got out of the stretch limo.

She knew these two people very well, not only her but also Nick Zeller was familiar with them.

Nick Zeller caught sight of these two people in the rearview mirror and was somewhat surprised.

Weren’t they the parents of Brooke Osborne and Kenneth Osborne?

Why were they here?

And why are they in such a luxurious stretch limo?

The woman in front holding the child must be Brooke Osborne.

Nick Zeller glanced at the rearview mirror again and saw another person coming out of the stretch limo.

This time it was an older man, even using a cane.

Nick Zeller’s pupils suddenly contracted.

The last person to come out was Cameron Spencer.

The big boss of Spencer Group, even if he were burnt to ashes, Nick Zeller wouldn’t mistake him for anyone else.
