Daddy Always Gets Jealous

Huo Jinnan stood there, his eyes dark and inscrutable, silent as he impassively lit a cigarette.

Wen Ru thought of the sentence Huo Jinyun had been cut off from finishing by Anan, and stared out the window, her eyes suddenly distant. ”Anan, no matter what she said, Huanhuan is with you for no other reason. It’s different from when she married Gu Jizhou back then.”

Huo Jinnan uttered a ”hmm” in response.

Wen Ru looked back at him. ”Back then, Huanhuan was too young and got pregnant. She simply did it for the child, not wanting her own child to grow up like she had. This time, her being with you is following her heart.”

Huo Jinnan slowly took a drag from his cigarette, then snuffed it out. ”Auntie, I know all of this.”

Wen Ru felt relieved only after hearing his response. ”Initially, when I found out you were Gu Jizhou’s uncle, I was dead set against any development between you two. If it wasn’t for Xiaoqin’s son—”

She didn’t continue, but sighed deeply and looked at Huo Jinnan, her meaning clear.

Huo Jinnan didn’t say anything. Noticing that Wen Ru’s cup was empty, he picked it up, went to the water dispenser, bent down to fill a glass of water, and placed it on the nightstand.

Wen Ru’s mood gradually calmed down. She picked up the cup, took a sip of water, and spoke softly, ”Your mother was a dear friend of mine in this lifetime. During my hardest times, only she stood by me. Without her, there would be no me today, nor would there be Huanhuan...”

She stopped, suddenly short of breath, and turned to look out the window as if lost in distant memories. Her voice faded, ”For my brother, for Huanhuan, I left home against my will and had no choice but to marry Che Zhiqiang. To protect Huanhuan, I had to watch my own daughter and yet dared not show affection, love, or even get close to her...”

Her eyes suddenly brimmed with tears, but no sound of crying came through.

In the end, Huo Jinnan said only one thing, ”Qin Moting is not a man.”

Wen Ru did not respond but closed her eyes, her complexion turning ashen.

Huo Jinnan didn’t say anything more, standing there, exceptionally quiet, casually tossing the cigarette butt into the trash can nearby.

Hearing a knock on the door, he walked over, pulled it open, and saw Che Huan.

Che Huan handed him her phone, looking toward Wen Ru on the hospital bed.

Wen Ru had already regained her composure, smiling faintly. ”Huanhuan, I’m fine, don’t worry.”

”...”

Che Huan bit her lip, unsure of the grudge between her mother and Huo Jinyun, always feeling it was complicated.

On her way upstairs just now, she suddenly remembered the first time Huo Jinyun met her, staring intently at her for a long time, as if looking at something very distasteful.

Now she suddenly realized what was going on. Is that why Huo Jinyun made things difficult for her after she married into the Gu Family?

Sitting down by the bed, Che Huan took Wen Ru’s hand. ”Mom, I’m not busy now. I’ll stay in the hospital with you.”

Wen Ru nodded, ”Okay.”

Huo Jinnan glanced over, ”Auntie—”

Wen Ru looked up at Huo Jinnan. ”Huanhuan told me that you two have already got your marriage certificate.”

Huo Jinnan confirmed with a sound and naturally corrected himself, ”Mom, I have some things to deal with at the company. I’ll be busy for a while, but I’ll come back during lunch to keep you company.”

Che Huan sat there blushing, sneakily taking a glance at him. He switched to calling her ”Mom” so quickly, without even a hint of bashfulness or awkwardness!

Huo Jinnan left the ward, thinking about the things he had found out in Li City, and lifted his hand to make a phone call to Huo Bei. ”Find out what happened between Wen Ru and Qin Moting back then, and what role Huo Jinyun played in it.”
