Chapter 2236: Interlude - Feng Yun (1)

Feng Yun, fifteen years old, the eldest grandson of the Feng Family’s patriarch, and someone who was destined to lead his generation. That was what he believed until they were attacked by beasts. Not just any ordinary beast, but a phoenix and a Desolate Heavenly Beast, along with a weird Jiangshi that was just a skeleton and two demonic beasts.

Back then, Feng Yun arrogantly thought these beasts were nothing in front of his Grandfather and Grand Elder until he witnessed the elite guards fall one by one. That was when his grandfather stepped up.

He could not see his grandfather in action because Grand Elder Feng Zhan, his granduncle, evacuated him and the other children. He thought he was in the safest place he could be, yet his grand uncle had to evacuate them.

Feng Yun believed in his grandfather and refused to leave. He had an absolute belief in his grandfather. That was why he wanted to stay and support his grandfather. It gave his grand uncle no choice but to knock him off.

He learned of the fall of his family when he woke up. He thought it was just a dream, a nightmare, and he wanted to quickly get up from this nightmare. Only this was not a nightmare, but a cruel reality that his family had truly fallen.

His granduncle had to involve an outsider to save the Feng Family and the city from the beast. Thanks to that, they lost their freedom. They were no longer the Feng Family, but the Phoenix Pavilion, part of the Thousand Vows Pavilion. He learned that the Thousand Vows Pavilion was under the Tang Empire, an empire from the God Realm.

They had to submit to an outsider faction, something he despised before. Alas, he didn’t have the authority or voice to stop that. His granduncle told him it was for their survival because the other hidden families would come for them once the news of his Grandfather, the Grand Elder, and the Elite Guards died in that attack.

Feng Yun could accept that excuse; what was even more outrageous was the fact that his granduncle encouraged them to accept the system. They were not told to abandon the cultivation, but were more likely to combine both. The voice was supported by the surviving members of his family.

The Feng Family, which was not the Phoenix Pavilion, had a new structure. They no longer had one leader like the patriarch, as five surviving peak True God Realms took charge of the pavilion. Five of them were appointed as Grandmasters, and they learned a new technique that they said would help to develop their core technique.

Feng Yun didn’t believe that nonsense. The adults were just making excuses for their weakness. If it were his grandfather, he would never lower himself to some measly technique. His grandfather would fight instead of submitting to an outsider. He hated them, but he chose to swallow his dissatisfaction until later, when he was strong enough to be the new leader to replace his granduncle.

It had been two weeks since they joined the Thousand Vows Pavilion, and today, they would visit the place called the Tang Empire. He found out not long after they changed into the Phoenix Pavilion that the Thousand Vows Pavilion was under the Tang Empire.

The purpose of the visit was to get talents, especially for the younger generation. Apparently, the adults had gotten theirs, and they often visited the Tang Empire, staying there for a dungeon dive to increase their level.

The adult had tested the effectiveness of accepting the system, which was why they rolled it out for the younger generation today. The first batch was the main descendant of the Feng Family.

His three sisters, two brothers, and ten cousins were the first batch. His granduncle would lead them and teach them the ropes of being players. His granduncle would expect him and the other kids to lead the others after they had become accustomed to the system.

They were standing in front of the portal that connected to the God Realm. He stood behind his granduncle, ”I want to try to fight players at the same age as me before getting the talent, Granduncle!”

Feng Zhan turned toward Feng Yun, surprised by the request. But he quickly put the puzzle together. Feng Yun admired his brother, and it might be more than just admiration. It was more a blind worship for his dead brother, and the young teenager had the same belief as his brother that an outsider or player was trash.

Feng Zhan massaged his forehead as it was a troublesome request from his grand nephew. It was troublesome because it was hard to measure the cultivation realm by the player’s rank.

”We haven’t established the measurement cultivation realm for the player’s rank and level. It would be hard to match you up with players of similar strength.”

Feng Zhan rubbed his chin, deep in thought about how to resolve this. Feng Yun was important for the younger generation, the leader of the Feng Family of his generation. He needed to convince his grandnephew.

”How about you delay your talent awakening and save against your sister later, after she gains some levels? That way, you can tell the difference and the benefit of being players and cultivators at the same time.”

Feng Zhan was at mid Golden Core Realm, 4th-Stage Golden Core Realm. His younger sister from a different mother, Feng Hualin, was thirteen years old and was at the 8th-Stage Golden Core Realm, and another younger sister who was also from his third mother, Feng Qiaoyu, was eleven years old and was also at the 4th-Stage Golden Core Realm. The rest were at peak Foundation Establishment Realm and also younger than him.

Granduncle wanted to use his talented sister, Feng Qiaoyu, to awaken her talent and used her against him. However, he couldn’t allow that. He must be the first one to confirm that becoming a player actually brought benefits for them.

”No! You can’t use my sister as a subject of your experiment, Granduncle!”

Feng Zhan didn’t want to trouble Executive Administrator Tang Shaoyang over something trivial like this, but he had no choice. Sir Tang Shaoyang might know more than him since he tried to persuade the Thousand Vows Pavilion to awaken as players.

He sent a direct message as he had joined the Tang Empire. Fortunately, Sir Tang Shaoyang didn’t find it troublesome and was willing to entertain his grandnephew’s request.

’Ah, right. It’s Your Majesty for me. He’s an Emperor.’

”His Majesty has prepared a match for you that might be on a similar level or might be a little stronger than you.” Feng Zhan looked his grandnephew in the eyes and quickly realized the most important thing.

”I don’t care about your attitude towards me, Feng Yun! But don’t you dare act disrespectfully toward His Majesty. Don’t you dare to implicate your brothers and sisters for your silly pride, understand!?” He reminded his grandnephew before making a fatal mistake. He put his aura to pressure Feng Yun so his grandnephew knew the seriousness in his words.

Feng Yun’s expression paled at the intense pressure, his breathing ragged because of the intense yet foreign pressure. This was the first time his granduncle put such pressure on him, and of course, he understood the seriousness behind his granduncle’s warning.
