Chapter 2229: Worst Match-Up (1)

“Are you with the foolish phoenix?” The newly arrived man questioned Tang Shaoyang.

“I am, but I don’t agree about her being foolish, though. If you have your family slaughtered, you might do the same as well,” Tang Shaoyang shrugged. “Does everyone in the Feng Family all like this? Do they ask questions first when you are attacked?”

“Not really. I just want to make sure that we don’t kill the wrong person!” As the man said that, his figure burst into flame, charging forward to Tang Shaoyang.

Tian Zhong initially thought of joining the fight, but he quickly backtracked the moment he found this was more than just a fight. Even though Tang Shaoyang didn’t tell him in detail what this was about, he caught the gist of this attack.

It seemed the Feng Family killed the Phoenix’s family for their cultivation. Tang Shaoyang was here to help the phoenix’s revenge. This was not just a fight; it was a battle of life and death with a clan at stake.

Tian Zhong was conflicted deep inside. On one hand, he still held his belief when he was still the Patriarch of the Sword Manor. It was to protect the Sacred Realm. Destroying the Feng Family was an act against that belief.

On the other side, he was part of the Thousand Vows Pavilion now. He was on Tang Shaoyang’s side, but he could not lend a hand after learning the cause of the fight. That caused him to be a spectator in the battle.

Grandmaster Bai, Grandmaster Sikong, and Grandmaster Duanmu could not join the fight. They would be a burden to Tang Shaoyang instead. The scale of the fight was out of their level. It was better for them to stay out of this fight.

Even for someone on his level, he could barely catch what was going on. The fight took place at the same spot; both Tang Shaoyang and a mysterious figure from the Feng Family didn’t move much as they exchanged blows.

It looked like they were exchanging blows, while in fact the mysterious man was doing all the offense, and Tang Shaoyang was on defense. Each strike from the mysterious man produced fire that quickly raised the temperature around them.

The man shaped his fire into a sword, spear, and all kinds of weapons, sending them at Tang Shaoyang from the blind spot. However, as if Overseer Tang Shaoyang had an eye on the back of his head, he always smashed that fire with his fist.

Tian Zhong noticed that Tang Shaoyang’s fist was covered in dark-golden energy, something he had never encountered before. He had seen someone with golden-colored energy, but dark gold was the first time.

“Should we help?” Grandmaster Bai asked. His voice trembled slightly, revealing the state of his mind, while his eyes locked on the fight. He seemed to be able to track the fight that looked like a blur and also the raging fire that masked the actual fight.

Tian Zhong was amazed that Bai Jinwei could follow the fight. He shook his head, “You know it too, Grandmaster Bai.”

Bai Jinwei let out a sigh. That one sentence was enough to tell him everything about the fight. He was too weak to be of help, and that one sentence emphasized what he tried not to think about.

If the other cultivators heard that the 7th-Stage True God Realm was weak, they might think Tian Zhong was crazy. However, if he had to compare him to what he watched, he had to admit that he was too weak to be even a small variable. His “helping” was akin to a suicide. People would laugh at the story unless they could watch what he watched right now.

“And why do you think Overseer Tang Shaoyang needs our help?” Tian Zhong asked upon noticing the deep frown on Bai Jinwei’s face.

Bai Jinwei was confused for a moment because it was so obvious that Overseer Tang Shaoyang was getting cornered by the mysterious man.

“I thought you had watched Overseer Tang Shaoyang’s fight. Do you think he would lose helplessly like this?”

Only then did Bai Jinwei come to a realization. It was more like he was focusing on catching the fight movement that he could not analyze the fight properly. Now that he watched the fight with Grandmaster Tian’s question in mind. He found out that the fire could not hurt Overseer Tang Shaoyang at all.

As he continued watching, he realized something else. It was a close combat fight with minimal movement from both sides. While Tang Shaoyang didn’t fight back, he perfectly blocked everything that came for him.

The fist and swords were deflected as Overseer Tang Shaoyang remained untouched. However, the fight got even more intense as the fire spread out, reaching them and into the city.

The fire swirled in the air as the temperature kept rising. If someone below the Immortal Emperor came close, they might get burned. The four peak True God Realms were retreating, creating a defensive barrier to ensure the fire didn’t get into the city.

A massive phoenix wing formed behind the mysterious man, and the fire feathers shot toward Tang Shaoyang, a lot of them. The feather exploded in the clash and created a massive firestorm with Tang Shaoyang as the center.

The mysterious man seemed to realize the fire didn’t hurt Tang Shaoyang. He charged into the firestorm, sending a thrust with his flaming spear at the center of the firestorm.

Fierce winds swept the fire and revealed the figure behind the firestorm. They saw Tang Shaoyang catch the flaming spear with his right bare hand. Fire raged from the spear, swallowing Tang Shaoyang.

Tang Shaoyang enjoyed the fight, deflecting everything that came to him with a simple movement. The fire was strong; he could feel the heat, but it merely warmed him and could not hurt him with his fire resistance.

As more fire swallowed, he realized that testing his martial arts against the Feng Family might not work. The Feng Family’s technique was focused on the phoenix fire, and he was resistant to fire because he mastered the Chaos Fire.

On top of that, it seemed like the Chaos Energy would flow out and create a barrier to neutralize the fire. It was like his Chaos Energy was alive and took action on its own to protect him.

So yeah, in fact, his fire resistance didn’t even play a part in protecting him from the fire. This was something he discovered in the fight against this unknown man when fire was thrown at him continuously.

With this, he came to the conclusion that the Feng Family was not the right subject to test his progress in his martial arts. He was the bane of the Feng Family, who used fire arts. The fire didn’t pose a threat to him. It could not be considered a test when his enemy could not pose a threat or a challenge at all.

Tang Shaoyang pulled the spear toward him, pulling the man as he sent a kick to the belly. To his surprise, the mysterious man also sent a punch to his chest. It caught him off guard as he was hit on the chest while his kick landed on his opponent’s belly.

The fist broke the barrier created by the Chaos Energy to keep off the phoenix fire and sent him sliding backward. At the same time, the mysterious’s body flung backward and crashed into the wall.
