Armed Train in the Apocalypse

In Wan Xing’s field of vision, a mini avatar of Yu Yue flickered incessantly at the edge of her smart glasses, signaling the other’s presence.

Sealing the reagent in her hand completely, she then returned to her normal expression and lifted her head.

Looking at Yu Yue, who appeared cautious, she instinctively recalled her mother who ran an orphanage. Although the two had completely different personalities, they both exuded a comforting aura, like a sun-drenched quilt, soft and warm.

Wan Xing asked gently, ”Is there something you need?”

Yu Yue, startled, glanced at the test tube in her hand with some apprehension.

”Is this the stuff that attracted that snake back then?”

Wan Xing shook her head, ”This is meant to attract zombies.”

After a brief chat, Yu Yue headed to the back, finding Jiang Rong in carriage number four charging the engine.

With Su Huan not on board, the task of powering was handed over to her.

Huang Sea was incubating the newly laid eggs, hinting that the eggs seemed to have undergone some mutations.

The daughter was tinkering with those mechanical skeletons in carriage number 19.

Everyone had something to do.

But it was different from when Su Huan was present; everyone seemed to have something weighing them down.

Stifled.

...

The battle outside the train continued; despite the intense heat, it seemed to have fallen into a bizarre equilibrium.

The armored train audaciously began laying tracks amidst the encirclement.

The metal bullets were melted into molten iron to fill large pits and solidify the road surface. Metal beams shot out from the buildings on both sides, transforming into metal ties, which were sturdier and more durable than wooden ones, with higher load-bearing capacity.

The adjusted rails crashed back into place, fusing with the metal surface into one entity.

Even shells couldn’t shake them now!

On the renewed tracks, the armored train once again bored forward resolutely, pushing a mountain-like pile of sandbags at a turtle’s pace.

Occasionally, a loud crack would echo out.

The intercepting locks snapped back with a rebound.

The artillery and bullets from both sides were no longer adversaries; they seemed more like cheerleaders.

The Steel Council appeared to have no means to deal with the train anymore.

An hour ago, Li Tao thought the same, but now he had long abandoned those haphazard, discouraging thoughts. Staring ahead at a track engineering vehicle, four or five large construction vehicles, and several cannons, Li Tao was filled with immense astonishment.

These weren’t rocket launchers or anti-aircraft machine guns; they were bona fide 85mm direct fire guns capable of piercing 150mm of armor within 1000 meters.

Although the model was an antique, no one could ignore its power!

Even that armored train rampaging on the tracks was just a lamb to be slaughtered under such a caliber cannon!

Before the apocalypse, he tried everything to acquire a real cannon, even an obsolete one.

Who knew his uncle quietly obtained not just that, but also these several mining engineering vehicles, each tire over four meters tall.

Each vehicle weighed over three hundred tons, and even in front of the train, they were worthy of being called steel beasts!

Navigating various parameters quickly in his mind, Li Tao recalled his uncle’s teachings and adjusted his glasses, masking the glimmer in his eyes.

Yet, his tone still contained doubt, ”Did Uncle prepare all this beforehand?”

Li Wangchuan stood calmly by the window, watching a series of large lethal machines crouching in the rain below, ”When you first encountered the armored train, I had already instructed people to start collecting engineering vehicles.”

Li Tao was taken aback, ”Uncle, how did you know they would…”

”I didn’t know!” Li Wangchuan unclasped his wristband, ”I only knew that Yijin had a potential unknown threat to my plans. That was enough for me to make extra preparations; never hand over the initiative to others.”

Li Tao’s eyes gradually revealed a glimmer of understanding. Since this preparation was long made, acting like nothing was prepared in the office was merely a show for those board members. The armored train was never Uncle’s main target; he wanted to use this event to reclaim the board’s authority completely!

His own team’s failed interception might even be part of the plan!

Thinking along these lines, Li Tao understood everything suddenly and couldn’t help but complain, ”I thought I was the person you trusted the most, yet even your nephew gets tossed under the bus.”

A smile finally appeared on Li Wangchuan’s face. This nephew had been close to him since childhood and, most importantly, was smart, so he kept him close for training.

He spoke leisurely, ”This isn’t much of a pitfall; you stayed on a helicopter the whole time and never landed, but Chairman Zhang lost twenty people and got kicked out. Do you know why you came out fine?”

”Because I have an uncle who’s an executive director.”

The uncle and nephew exchanged a knowing smile.

Li Wangchuan gradually controlled his emotions, watching the dozen or so bulletproof cars stopping together below, sighing softly, ”You have to learn to appropriately hand over the initiative to others.”

”Uh, but that’s not what you just said.”

Li Wangchuan was nonchalant, ”I said it differently because I needed to.”

Li Tao, seeing his uncle dismiss words like a passing fart, was left speechless, but he also seemed to understand.

”Go prepare; don’t rush it, let the prey dig a little deeper.”

”To what extent?”

”When all three lines of defense have been breached.”

Li Tao nodded and was about to leave when his uncle’s secretary came in. Her black professional suit highlighted astonishing curves, and both her hairstyle and attire were immaculate, exuding a sharp, aggressive aura.
