Yandere Stream

Kai Mercer opened his eyes and stared at the ceiling. It was white, flat, and painfully familiar. For several seconds he lay motionless, trying to understand where he was. His body felt unusually heavy, as though he had been asleep for days, yet there was no pain—no blood, no injuries, only a dull pressure behind his eyes and the faint sound of rain tapping against a nearby window. Then a voice broke the silence.

”You’re awake.”

Kai turned his head and found Luna sitting beside the bed. She looked exhausted. Her hair was messy, her eyes were red from lack of sleep, and she was still wearing the same clothes she had worn at the station. He stared at her in confusion.

”Luna?”

She smiled weakly. ”Yeah.”

Slowly pushing himself upright, Kai looked around the room. It was an ordinary apartment bedroom. Too ordinary. There was a couch against one wall, a television, a coffee table littered with empty cups, and a blanket draped carelessly over an armrest. There were no endless platforms, no impossible trains, no conductor, no Choice Line. Just a normal room.

”Where are we?” he asked.

”My apartment.”

Kai frowned. ”How long was I asleep?”

Luna hesitated before answering. ”About six hours.”

”Six?” He rubbed his face and glanced toward the rain-streaked window.

”Yeah.”

A knot formed in his stomach. ”What day is it?”

Something in Luna’s expression shifted. ”Kai...”

”What day is it?”

When she finally answered, his heart sank. It was still the same day. Not the next morning. Not even a few hours later than it should have been. The same day they had entered Platform Zero.

”That’s impossible.”

”I know.”

Kai immediately looked up. ”Where’s Daniel?”

”Downstairs.”

”Noah?”

”With him.”

”The conductor?”

”We don’t know.”

His pulse quickened. ”And Adrian?”

Silence.

Luna looked away.

Kai already knew the answer before she spoke. ”Where is he?”

”We don’t know.”

Throwing aside the blanket, Kai stood up. ”Then we have to find him.”

Luna rose quickly and stepped into his path. ”Kai.”

”I’m serious.”

”So am I. Look at me.”

He did.

”You’ve been saying that for six hours.”

Kai frowned. ”What are you talking about?”

”While you were unconscious.” Luna’s voice grew quieter. ”You kept repeating his name.”

”What else did I say?”

She hesitated. ”You kept saying, ’Don’t let him finish.’ Over and over again.”

The room suddenly felt colder.

”I said that?”

She nodded.

Kai walked toward the mirror near the wall. Something felt wrong. Not the familiar sensation of danger that usually warned him of monsters or impossible phenomena. This was subtler. Reality itself felt edited, as though someone had quietly rewritten a sentence and expected nobody to notice.

His reflection stared back at him. Same face. Same tired eyes. Same expression. He raised a hand and the reflection copied him perfectly. Then he noticed faint writing hidden beneath the condensation on the glass. Wiping it away with his sleeve revealed a sentence.

YOU FORGOT THE FIRST LINE.

Kai froze.

”What?” Luna asked as she stepped beside him.

He didn’t answer. Instead, he touched the mirror. The words vanished instantly. A second sentence appeared in their place.

HE DIDN’T.

Kai felt his stomach drop.

”Adrian.”

Luna looked at him in confusion. ”What about him?”

”You said you don’t know where he is.”

”I don’t.”

”But—”

She frowned. ”Who is Adrian?”

The apartment fell silent.

Kai stared at her. ”What did you just say?”

”Who is Adrian?”

His heart pounded harder. ”You know him.”

”No, I don’t.”

”Yes, you do.”

”I’ve never heard that name before.”

Kai took a step backward.

”No.”

Luna reached toward him. ”Kai, you’re scaring me.”

”You remembered him.”

”When?”

”At the station.”

”What station?”

That was when the truth hit him.

She didn’t remember.

Not the station.

Not Adrian.

Nothing.

Kai bolted from the room and ran downstairs. Daniel was sitting on the couch while Noah stood near the kitchen. Both looked exhausted. Kai didn’t waste a second.

”Adrian.”

Daniel blinked. ”Who?”

Kai turned toward Noah.

”Adrian.”

Noah frowned. ”Is that someone we know?”

The room tilted.

”No.”

Daniel stood up. ”Kai?”

”No.”

Kai backed away until he hit the wall. Nobody remembered. Not Luna. Not Daniel. Not Noah.

Nobody except him.

And suddenly he understood.

The Reader had not left.

It had simply changed the sentence.

Not the story.

The sentence.

”It erased him,” Kai whispered.

”No.”

The answer came from behind him.

Kai spun around.

The stranger stood in the doorway.

Nobody reacted.

Nobody looked at him.

It was as if he wasn’t there at all.

”You’re here.”

The stranger nodded. ”Unfortunately.”

Kai pointed toward the others. ”What happened?”

”The Reader changed the first line.”

His blood ran cold.

”What was the original?”

The stranger glanced toward the mirror upstairs. ”The one you saw.”

Kai swallowed. ”And now?”

”Now the sentence says something else.”

”What?”

The stranger’s expression darkened. ”You were never supposed to notice him.”

Kai felt the world sway around him. ”Then why do I remember?”

”Because you were the exception.”

”Why?”

The stranger stepped closer. ”Because the story cannot erase the person who knows it’s a story.”

Kai stared at him.

”Then what happens to Adrian?”

For a moment, the stranger said nothing.

Kai grabbed his coat. ”Tell me.”

Finally, the stranger answered.

”He becomes whatever the new sentence says he is.”

Kai froze.

”And what does it say?”

The stranger looked toward the mirror.

Slowly, Kai turned.

Condensation spread across the glass once more. Letters appeared one by one.

Adrian never existed.

Luna walked toward it and stared.

”That’s strange.”

Kai immediately looked at her. ”Why?”

She touched the glass and frowned.

”I feel like...” Her voice faltered. ”I feel like I’m forgetting someone.”

Hope flared inside him.

”You remember?”

”No.” She pressed her fingers against her temple. ”It’s just... someone important.”

”Who?”

A tear slipped down her cheek.

”I don’t know.”

Kai turned back toward the stranger. Unlike before, he wasn’t watching Luna.

He was watching Kai.

And for the first time, Kai saw hope in his eyes.

”You can still save him.”

Kai looked at the sentence on the mirror.

”How?”

The stranger pointed toward the window.

Outside, the rain had stopped. The city was completely silent.

Then every television in every apartment building across the street turned on at exactly the same moment.

Every screen displayed the same message.

ADRIAN NEVER EXISTED.

Kai’s hands curled into fists.

The stranger spoke quietly.

”Then make the world remember.”

Kai looked at him. ”How?”

The stranger smiled.

”Write his name.”

Kai stared at the blank wall nearby. He didn’t have a pen.

He didn’t need one.

Raising his hand, he pressed a finger against the paint and wrote a single word.

ADRIAN.

The moment the final letter was completed, every television screen went black. Luna gasped. Daniel collapsed back onto the couch. Noah grabbed his head as if something had struck him. Outside, distant screams echoed through the city.

Memories were returning.

Not all of them.

Only fragments.

A name.

A face.

A boy.

A story.

Far away, on a train traveling through a place that should not have existed, Adrian opened his eyes. Beyond the window stretched an endless darkness filled with glowing letters. His name appeared everywhere he looked.

He smiled.

Then he noticed someone sitting across from him.

A woman with long dark hair and a notebook resting on her lap.

She looked up. ”You shouldn’t be here.”

Adrian frowned. ”Where am I?”

The woman closed the notebook. ”Somewhere between being written and being remembered.”

He stared at her. ”Who are you?”

She smiled softly.

”My name is Luna.”

His eyes widened. ”But Luna is supposed to be with Kai.”

”She is.”

”Then who are you?”

The smile vanished from her face.

”I’m the Luna who existed before the story.”

At that exact moment, the train came to a stop.

The lights went out.

Darkness swallowed everything.

Then, from somewhere behind Adrian, a familiar voice whispered:

”Don’t turn around.”

Adrian froze.

Because Kai wasn’t supposed to be there.

He was supposed to be thousands of miles away.

And yet, in the darkness, Adrian could hear him breathing.
