Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 829, Together, We’ll Forge a New Era!

Translator: Silavin

“Practical?” Lu Fan shook his head with a smile upon hearing this. “Perhaps when I truly become an eternal being like you, with no old friends left around me, I’ll think the same way. After all, in a world where no one recognises you, forging the strongest body might indeed be the optimal choice. But, I’m not that detached from my surroundings just yet. If I became like the Abyssal Ancient God, my Aunt and my friends would be frightened to death.”

Ouyang Bai Ge chuckled softly. “Perhaps they would.”

“But I think if you were in my position, you’d have the same thoughts as me.”

After a pause, Ouyang Bai Ge bitterly continued, “Actually, when I first conceived the idea of condensing my current body, I frightened myself. Clearly I’m Human, yet I wanted to possess a monstrous body. If this continues, how would I be any different from those Ancient Gods?”

“Perhaps other Ancient Gods were once Humans who obtained their current Divine Seats, but they sank into their Ancient God identities, gradually feeling that being Human offered no real benefits. Just as the story of reincarnation, where a person would see becoming a dog, cat, or horse in their next life as punishment, they too started to disdain the Human body.”

“Similarly, Ancient Gods are even more advanced than Humans. So as an Ancient God, when I could condense the best and strongest body, why should I cling to my former shape and appearance?”

“I know this thinking isn’t wrong. But I also know that the more I think this way, the more I become an Ancient God, parting ways with my Humanity. Perhaps eventually, even my obsession with eliminating all Ancient Gods for my friends and Family will vanish. After all, such sentimental attachments are laughable to the Ancient Gods. I can already feel this way now.”

“However, my reason tells me that I cannot easily let go of what happened in the previous era. My obsession has lasted one era, and I’ll pursue this matter for an entire era.”

“I’m glad you’re willing to cooperate with me. Because I fear that eventually I’ll forget who I am and what I must do.”

“We need to kill all the Ancient Gods. The sooner, the better.”

Lu Fan nodded with partial understanding. He could sense the struggle and confusion in Ouyang Bai Ge’s words.

It made sense. She was like an ant that once lived purely by instinct. One day, she suddenly became Human and discovered there were far more things she could accomplish in this world.

Compared to Human pursuits, wouldn’t an ant’s daily search for food and protection of its colony seem pale and insignificant?

Once she truly accepted her Human identity, she would naturally cast all that aside.

Similarly, she was now an Ancient God. Any sentimental attachments were mere clouds, dispersing as they must. How could they compare to the significance of the Ancient Gods’ Struggle For Supremacy, of becoming the God King of this world?

This seemed to be the truth. Yet the more she believed it to be true, the more she advanced towards becoming an Ancient God, growing less and less Human.

By then, what ally of Humanity? Killing other Ancient Gods and preventing them from initiating the Ancient Gods’ Struggle For Supremacy? That would have just been a passing thought.

If Valkyrie truly lost her Humanity at that time, then Lu Fan would no longer be able to consider her as an ally.

“Don’t overthink it. Just follow your heart.” Lu Fan said, voicing his thoughts.

“If it’s that simple, then I’ll start my Fourth Profession Change first. I hope we can work together to stop all this. Before you lose yourself in your Ancient God identity, before my world is destroyed.”

With that, Lu Fan crushed the stone box.

The box shattered, and as expected, an Array burst forth, tightly enveloping Lu Fan.

This Fourth Profession Change Array was filled with intricate incantations, flashing with profound and abstruse light.

At the very centre was a vacant space.

Without filling this vacancy, the Array would have no effect.

From the Array’s vacant position came a strong suction, targeting directly the Abyssal Source in Lu Fan’s hand.

Clearly, this vacant position was left specifically for the Abyssal Source. Lu Fan only needed to release his grip, and the Abyssal Source would enter its designated position, fully activating the Array.

Lu Fan took a deep breath. Truth be told, even now, he did not entirely trust Ouyang Bai Ge.

But there was no alternative. As he had said, if he did not trust her, his chances of defeating the Ancient Gods were exceedingly slim.

To completely resolve the Ancient Gods crisis, he had to take this gamble!

With this thought, Lu Fan released his grip.

Instantly, the Abyssal Source flew from his hand, landing precisely at the Array Core.

The Array immediately blazed to life. Light suffused with ancient primordial essence completely enveloped Lu Fan. Wave after wave of great power washed over Lu Fan’s body, inside and out, granting him even more formidable strength. It was a strength surpassing the extreme limits of Fourth Profession Change.

Ouyang Bai Ge knew her Array would not fail, so her attention was not focused on Lu Fan.

She was somewhat distracted now, completely immersed in Lu Fan’s final words of ‘Just follow your heart.’

Ever since she had awakened from the ruins of her old world and condensed this non-Human shell for herself, she had been trapped in chaos.

She even felt that by the next era, she might completely assimilate with her identity as an Ancient God, becoming the very existence she most despised.

She had been caught between her Human and Ancient God identities, sinking endlessly in guilt.

But now, with one sentence, Lu Fan had suddenly opened the knot in her heart.

Clearly, even if she ultimately completely accepted her Ancient God identity, if she came to feel that the deaths of her relatives and old friends were merely meaningless events, Lu Fan had no intention of blaming her.

As an Ancient God, was it not perfectly normal for her to participate in the Ancient Gods’ Struggle For Supremacy?

When she was Human, wanting to kill Ancient Gods was normal.

Becoming an Ancient God yet still remembering old sentiments and hatred, wanting to kill Ancient Gods, were all of these not also normal?

Becoming an Ancient God and no longer doing what Humans do, but instead wanting to participate in the Ancient Gods’ Struggle For Supremacy. This was equally normal!

As Lu Fan said, regardless of everything, ‘just follow your heart’.

At that moment, all the burdens in Ouyang Bai Ge’s heart were lifted.

“Thank you, chosen one of this era,” Ouyang Bai Ge looked at Lu Fan, shrouded in light, thinking with sincere gratitude. “In this era, I still hope to kill off all the Ancient Gods.”

“If only I’d met someone like you in the previous era.”

“I hope that in this era, we can succeed in protecting your world, your Family, and friends. In return, I’ll do my best, and I hope my tragedy won’t repeat itself with you.”

“Perhaps after accomplishing all this, I won’t be able to identify myself as an Ancient God anymore. So, let’s do this together. Together, we can forge a truly new era!”
