Worthless Profession: Dragon Tamer

Chapter 822, Dragon Capital’s Hidden Danger

Translator: Silavin

Lu Fan casually replied, “My Dragons weren’t obtained from here. Also, the Giant Dragons here are my neighbours. I provide them with lodging, and they help guard my Territory.”

“Wait, you have Giant Dragons guarding your Territory!?” Ning Shuang’er was profoundly shaken. After a long moment, she recovered enough to ask, “How many Giant Dragons reside in your Territory?”

Lu Fan harboured no intention to conceal the fact, answering directly. “We have four Combat Specialised Giant Dragons that live here. There is an additional Dragon from the Murong Family that can participate in battles through a Transport Array at any time. There’s also one Functional Dragon lacking combat capability. However, with her presence, my Territory should soon possess even more Giant Dragons.”

Revealing this information to Ning Shuang’er posed no problems whatsoever.

Never mind Ning Shuang’er, even genuine enemies could learn this truth from Lu Fan’s own lips. After all, such matters need not be hidden.

When did one need to conceal their strength?

Only when both parties possessed comparable power.

‘Know yourself and know your enemy, and you shall never be defeated’, this principle presupposed the precondition that both sides’ combat capabilities did not have a vast disparity.

If one side truly numbered ten thousand while the other possessed merely ten, what analysis was necessary?

The ten-thousand-strong force could achieve victory with their eyes closed.

Lu Fan’s current situation mirrored this situation.

Never mind that Ning Shuang’er currently was not an enemy., even if she harboured ill-intentions against Lu Fan, what difference would knowing make?

Would such knowledge enable the Ning Family to devise countermeasures against Shadow Isle?

Facing absolute strength, displaying one’s capabilities constituted pure deterrence. Giving away such information offered no disadvantages whatsoever.

And, this information proved remarkably effective. Ning Shuang’er stood, completely shocked beyond measure. She was astounded by the magnificence of Lu Fan’s Territory.

She could even discern that beyond the Giant Dragons, this Territory’s other defensive measures were equally formidable.

Even without the Giant Dragons taking action, the Territory’s other defences alone could transform this vast domain into an impregnable fortress.

“Let’s go. Stop gawking. This place doesn’t welcome you.” Lu Fan glanced back at her, speaking without courtesy.

Ning Shuang’er recovered her composure and snorted. Naturally, she understood what he meant. Lu Fan permitting her to visit such a location was already unprecedented. Previously, he would never have allowed her to set foot in this Territory.

Following Lu Fan’s departure, Ning Shuang’er naturally observed numerous signs of habitation.

Clearly, Lu Fan was not the lone resident here. Other women also lived here, more than one in fact.

This left Ning Shuang’er slightly uncomfortable. Not that she coveted the superior living environment, but rather that other women could reside in a location of such importance to Lu Fan, Meanwhile, she received his declaration of being ‘unwelcomed’. This inevitably caused her heart to tighten a little.

Ning Shuang’er pondered why she felt this way.

Given her relationship with Lu Fan, his words were entirely reasonable.

After prolonged contemplation, she identified only one possibility: she was increasingly concerned with Lu Fan’s opinions.

In other words, she genuinely harboured romantic feelings towards Lu Fan!

Upon recognising this, Ning Shuang’er could only feel helpless.

Originally, she intended to sacrifice herself completely, becoming a vengeful spirit eternally bound to Lu Fan, never ceasing until death.

How had she transformed from vengeful spirit to lovesick maiden in such short order?

[Am I truly so starved for affection? Perhaps…] Carrying these thoughts, Ning Shuang’er followed Lu Fan through the Transport Array, successfully arriving at Dragon Capital.

The city remained unchanged from when Lu Fan left it.

However, Lu Fan sensed something oppressive hanging over Dragon Capital’s skies. It was a presence that left him deeply unsettled.

Frowning slightly, he turned to Ning Shuang’er. “Now that we’ve returned, what do you intend to do next? Continue following me?”

As expected, Ning Shuang’er nodded in affirmation.

Lu Fan contemplated momentarily before proposing, “How about this. I’ll give you a Mission. Handle it for me, okay?”

“A Mission!?” Ning Shuang’er was momentarily stunned. She had not anticipated that Lu Fan would not curse her as crazy or simply abandon her, but instead would entrust her with a Mission.

Lu Fan nodded. “Yeah. Dragon Capital’s situation has grown somewhat complex. Listen carefully.”

He then briefly explained Ouyang Bai Ge’s circumstances to Ning Shuang’er.

Regarding the Ancient Gods, Lu Fan did not elaborate excessively. However, as someone from a Second Tier Ancient Noble Family, Ning Shuang’er should possess knowledge about the Ancient Gods. She understood what such existences represented.

Consequently, connecting all the clues, Ouyang Bai Ge’s strangeness became readily apparent.

Someone capable of manipulating an Ancient God, causing a Mid Tier Ancient God to be slain by Lu Fan. In short, Ouyang Bai Ge must possess intricate connections with Ancient Gods.

Such an existence was residing in Dragon Capital. She was no different to a ticking time bomb. Once detonated, all of Dragon Country would descend into chaos.

After listening, Ning Shuang’er’s expression darkened considerably. “So, what exactly do you intend to do?”

Lu Fan’s face remained expressionless. “I’m going to confront her and demand answers. Who she is, and what are her objectives. If she is an enemy, I’ll tear away all pretences and confront her directly. However, that may trigger a ton of trouble. So, I’m offering you two paths.”

“First: Leave obediently. The further, the better. That way, should disaster truly strike, you won’t die. At least, not immediately. At the same time, I might get killed, resolving your hatred towards me.”

“Second: If you insist on following me, if you are determined to remain by my side even as a spirit, then wait here. If Dragon Capital faces a calamity, you’ll help me in evacuating as many civilians as possible, ensuring more people would survive.”

“These are your two choices. Which would you choose?”

Ning Shuang’er frowned, thinking for a while before responding, “Everything you’ve said is true? You’re not making up lies just to get rid of me?”

Lu Fan shook his head with a slight smile, producing the Abyssal Source. “See this? Isn’t this evidence enough? What’s more, if I wished to shake you off, why would I fabricate such an elaborate lie? I could simply use my Skills to restrain you, then utilise my Territory as a transfer point. You’d never catch up in this lifetime. I’m just offering you a choice. You can continue following me, or flee to save yourself.”
