Chapter 1617: Chapter 559: Advancement in Progress

On the way to the prison, the group dealt with no less than a hundred goblin mechanical vehicles.

Soon, Rein and his companions arrived at the prison entrance.

The scene before them made Rein pause slightly.

A massive fissure, tens of meters long, split open the corridor at the prison’s center, revealing meters-thick irregular metallic cracks. Even for the Floating City, this gap was too large to close on its own.

Of course, if the Floating City were at its peak, the goblin technicians would have swiftly repaired this scene.

Due to the colossal fissure, the prison here was almost entirely destroyed by goblin mechanics, as evidenced by the scattered or warped and deformed metal bars.

”Rein Crown, it seems your judgement was right. The King of Tyrannosaurs should have come up from here.”

”Then... shall we go down?” Sword Saint Terrio asked.

”Yes, however, I haven’t explored the negative third level before, so everyone must stay highly vigilant, including the influence of these whispers, which may intensify.” Rein reminded them.

Having reached the Dawn peak, Rein could sense some deeper level things during this visit.

The entire Floating City seemed to carry a faint oppressive feeling, like being trapped in a giant cage. However, this suppression didn’t seem to target living beings but Fiend Demons.

”Wait, Rein Crown, shall I scout ahead first?” At this moment, one of the Twin Flame Spirits, Dawn Wizard Ogre, spoke.

”Oh?”

”I have a witchcraft called ’Eye of Flame’ that can explore distant situations.”

”That’s good, then.” Rein nodded with a smile.

As Ogre began chanting and casting, a head-sized eye, emitting trails of flame, appeared in front of the group, its center hollow with a more lively, smaller flame resembling a pupil.

Rein noticed the Eye of Flame shared some resemblance to Ogre’s own gaze.

From this angle, the opponent’s witchcraft was quite similar to his own ’Eye of the Beast.’

The Eye of Flame quickly skimmed the ground towards the fissure, soon disappearing from their sight.

”Directly below is a military camp, without particularly strong mechanical creations...” Shortly after, Ogre spoke with closed eyes.

”Within a hundred meters, it’s safe...”

A military camp directly below?

Suddenly, Rein had an insight.

Previously, it’s likely that his battle in the prison on the negative second level, dealing with some Fiend Demons, led to General Angerik, no, to be precise, that part of Fiend Demon aura sensing something.

This caused the King of Tyrannosaurs to break through the negative second level ground and rush up.

”Hey, strange, my Eye of Flame disappeared.”

Suddenly, Ogre opened his eyes, looking bewildered.

”Disappeared? But your Eye of Flame could explore a range of several kilometers, how did it vanish after just two hundred meters?” Otto too found it quite incredible.

As brothers, Otto naturally understood the range and effect of Ogre’s ’Eye of Flame.’

”Hmm, it seemed influenced by something and disappeared.” Ogre pondered for a while, seemingly recalling the feeling just now.

”Hold on, let me try again.”

...

Two minutes later.

”I can confirm, there should be some influence below.” Ogre said solemnly.

”Shall we still go down?”

Upon hearing the question, everyone’s gaze instinctively turned to Rein.

”Wait a moment!”

In the next instant, Rein’s figure vanished into thin air, reappearing in less than a second.

It turned out he had just performed a ’Shadow Shifting,’ though successful, it consumed spiritual power several times more than before.

’The consumption of spiritual power was much greater, surely there’s a limitation.’ Rein pondered secretly.

The scene left everyone initially shocked but soon inexplicably relieved, as if having reliance was exceptionally pleasant.

”It’s not a big issue; there is a restriction here, so some witchcraft effects might be affected.” Rein explained.

”I see.” Everyone nodded in agreement.

...

As they descended, they immediately felt the change.

”The influence of the whispers has intensified.”

Rein felt the difference between the negative third and negative second levels at once.

Though he could still resist normally, Haleem, who had just stepped into the Dawn level as a High Rank Wizard, was already frowning deeply. He quickly grabbed and consumed a Concentration Potion.

The Concentration Potion was significantly more potent than the Concentration Talisman, providing temporary immunity from the abnormal whispers.

”The whispers on the negative third level, though not enough to twist a Dawn Wizard’s will, have started to influence the casting to a certain extent.”

”Moreover, the mist here is even denser...”

”There should be some clues in the military camp, let’s look for them.” Rein said, scanning around.

All around were rooms extending from metal walls, resembling square kilns, quite orderly.

”Alright!”

A few minutes later, Haleem emerged from one of the rooms, slightly pleased, holding up a scorched diary:

”Everyone, I found a diary, probably General Angerik’s.”

”Eh? It managed to be preserved?” Sword Saint Terrio raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised.
