When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 399: Chapter 1145: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in a Period Novel (32)

Seeing that Nurse Director Guo really didn’t know what was going on, the nurse quietly recounted the whole story from the beginning.

She had a good friend in the outpatient department who said that at the end of last month, an educated youth named Fang Yuying, who had returned to the city from the countryside, joined their office as an intern doctor.

In reality, Fang Yuying didn’t have many skills. She could treat minor ailments like headaches and fevers, but she only knew how to write a few prescriptions and nothing more.

Anyone could watch her for a few days and take over her job of bluffing their way through it!

Relying on this meager bit of skill, the intern doctor acted like she was some big shot, ordering the nurses around like maids from the old days. Cleaning, fetching tea and water—she’d say one casual word, and you had to do it.

You could refuse, sure, but then you’d be told to go ”help out” in another department.

But when it came to the doctors, Fang Yuying put on a completely different face. She was so attentive and eager, calling everyone ”comrade,” that she practically acted like their servant.

Then, at the beginning of the month when salaries were paid out, Mother Fang got wind of it and went to wait outside the finance office first thing in the morning. She told everyone she met how fortunate she was.

She bragged about marrying into the Fang family and having two sons within three years, and about how she never had any trouble with her in-laws. She went on about how her sons were high-achievers, her daughter was so thoughtful, and she even had a top scholar for a son-in-law.

The crowd was engrossed in the gossip, itching to dig up some dirt on Fang Yuying and spread it all over the hospital.

But when they heard that last part, they felt something was off.

There was no college entrance exam anymore, so where would a ”top scholar” come from?

In such a sensitive era, Mother Fang sure had the nerve to say whatever she wanted!

Besides, Fang Yuying had said she was the only daughter in her family and was rather doted on, which was why she was able to return to the city and start working so early.

But Fang Yuying clearly wasn’t married yet. Just a couple of days ago, when they were collecting information, her status was ”unmarried”!

Someone couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity.

With her chin slightly raised, Mother Fang had been waiting for this question. She smiled and said, ”Ah, young people are thin-skinned. Their circumstances aren’t quite settled yet, so she’s not sure if the marriage will happen. That’s why she doesn’t dare tell people.”

”My daughter is working at the general hospital now, and she’ll become a permanent employee in half a year. With such a respectable job, isn’t their affair a done deal?”

”The man’s family is already preparing the betrothal gifts.”

”You should be familiar with the boy. It’s Jiang Yihua, a truly outstanding young man. He was the top scholar in the city-wide high school joint exam one year, the one from your hospital who was recruited by Imperial University!”

The crowd exchanged horrified glances. They knew of Jiang Yihua, but was this the same Jiang Yihua they knew?

Hadn’t he just gotten engaged a few days ago?

His fiancée was his childhood sweetheart, the apple of Vice President Chi’s eye, and the current Deputy Director of the Benefits Department, Director Chi!

Someone asked nonchalantly, ”Oh, do we have such an outstanding young man from our hospital?”

”Of course. His father is a chief physician, and his mother is a nurse director. The hospital is probably too big, and you’re all so busy all day that you’re not up to date on the news.” Mother Fang felt a little disappointed, surprised that Jiang Yihua’s name didn’t carry more weight at the general hospital.

But then she thought about how influential her supposed in-laws were and continued to brag with a smile.

After hearing this, the crowd exchanged another glance. No one said a word; they were all just waiting for the big show to start.

However, Mother Fang’s paperwork was incomplete, so she couldn’t collect the salary on her daughter’s behalf. With a long face, she went to find Fang Yuying. It was unclear how the mother and daughter resolved it, but Mother Fang didn’t show up again.

But the rumor about Jiang Yihua and Fang Yuying spread like a bomb had gone off. In no time, more than half the staff had heard it!

When Mrs. Jiang heard this, she was so angry she felt dizzy. ”The nerve of some people these days! How dare they spread such baseless rumors?”

”It’s a good thing my son is engaged to Chi. Otherwise, they would have accused Yihua of two-timing, and we wouldn’t have been able to defend ourselves no matter what we said.”

”Then they’d use their daughter’s ruined reputation as leverage, raise a huge fuss, and force our Jiang Family to just give in, is that it?”

The crowd chimed in, ”Exactly! And that Fang Yuying was already causing trouble for Director Chi before.”

”It’s laughable, really. She has so little skill herself, and her job was just bought with money, yet she had the gall to laugh at Director Chi for doing menial tasks.”

”Director Chi is capable and down-to-earth. She never looks down on people or acts like a snob, sucking up to the powerful while stepping on everyone else.”

Mrs. Jiang couldn’t sit still any longer. She hurriedly gave out some work instructions and went to find Father Jiang to tell him everything.

Father Jiang also furrowed his brow upon hearing the news. ”I’m afraid there must be some misunderstanding. Regardless, we have to nip this rumor in the bud.”

”Old Chi is the vice president, and Chi is in the Benefits Department. They’re all colleagues in the same hospital. Sooner or later, someone’s going to repeat this to them.”
