When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 361: Chapter 134: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in a Period Piece (21)

”As for why I followed you here, heh, of course it’s because Brother Hua is here. What were *you* thinking?”

Hearing Chi Yun’er say that, Jiang Zishi finally felt like everything from the past made sense.

’So I’d been a deluded fool this whole time. How could a girl with such good grades possibly be an idiot when it came to love?’

He couldn’t believe this was the truth. ”Bian Yumin, you too...?” he asked, struggling to get the words out.

Chi Yun’er nodded, shrugging with an amused smile. ”That’s right, I know what she’s thinking. I’m going to be your sister-in-law, after all. I can’t very well stand in the way of your happiness, can I?”

”You two are just like Zhou Yu and Huang Gai—one is willing to do the beating, and the other is willing to take it. It’s a great fit.”

Jiang Zishi’s fists tightened. ”The job at the brick factory...”

Chi Yun’er raised an eyebrow, her beautiful face turning frosty, which added an oppressive air to her loveliness. ”I may not have spoken to anyone but you, but that doesn’t mean I’m deaf.”

”The brick factory is infamous. Something or other is always happening there. I could piece together most of the story just from the little scraps I overheard from the villagers who walked past the sent-down youth quarters every day.”

”Besides, even without all that, would it really be appropriate for a female sent-down youth as good-looking as me to go to a brick factory? But I should thank you for your ’help.’ It allowed me to successfully get into the farm and spend all my time with Brother Hua!”

Jiang Zishi had never been so furious. The pride he once felt was now matched only by how ridiculous he must look in Chi Yun’er’s eyes. It was a feeling he could neither tolerate nor accept.

He was always the one toying with people, not the other way around!

And certainly not by this person he’d always considered a useless airhead!

”So, you were the one who took my money?”

He remembered the main reason he had come all this way, making sure to avoid Jiang Yihua.

Chi Yun’er looked at him in surprise. ”Jiang Zishi, I’d almost forgotten until you brought it up. How much money and how many things have you borrowed from me over time?”

”I used to think that since we’d be family one day, we shouldn’t haggle over such things. I didn’t even make you write an IOU.”

”You’re my brother-in-law-to-be, after all. As for how much you owe me, your sister-in-law, I’ll just have our mother-in-law take it out of your share. I’m sure she’ll be very fair and impartial.”

”So, what money of yours did I take? You have money, but instead of thinking about paying me back, you let someone else get their hands on it?”

Jiang Zishi glared at her, his voice low and menacing. ”Chi Yun’er, without an IOU, you can go to the police, but no one will back you up.”

”But you stole *my* money. That’s a crime you can get shot for!”

”For the sake of our ten-plus years of history, give the money back, and I won’t report it.”

Chi Yun’er looked at him, astonished. ”You’re refusing to pay back what you borrowed?”

Jiang Zishi sneered. ”I’m broke and I don’t have a job. Where would I get the money? Besides, so what if I don’t admit it? If you’re bold enough to lend money, you should be prepared to never see it again.”

Chi Yun’er sighed softly. ”’To raise a child without teaching them right from wrong is the parents’ fault.’ When we get back to the Capital City, I’ll have to have a good long talk with my future parents-in-law.”

”They already dote on Brother Hua. Now they’ll have every reason to openly use your share to pay back your debt—with interest.”

”What goes around, comes around.”

Jiang Zishi slammed his fist on the table and shot to his feet. But before he could do anything, a young man from outside strode in and shouted sternly,

”Jiang, what do you think you’re doing?”

”This is Zhaoyang Farm, not Bian Family Village! You can’t act like an arrogant tyrant here just because you’re the village chief’s future son-in-law!”

Jiang Zishi froze on the spot. He slowly suppressed his furious expression and forced a fake smile. ”Chi Yun’er, I came here this time to tell you and my brother that Bian Yumin and I are getting engaged in eight days. I hope you can both attend.”

Chi Yun’er said nonchalantly, ”Sorry, but your brother has to accompany a convoy to Mongolia, so he can’t make it. As for me, I’m not your sister-in-law yet, so to avoid any awkwardness, I can’t attend either.”

”Just deduct two yuan from the money you owe me. Consider it my engagement gift.”

”You came all this way just for that? You must be exhausted. Since we’ve settled everything, I won’t see you out.”

Jiang Zishi glared at her resentfully. ”Chi Yun’er, you shouldn’t burn your bridges. What good will it do you to offend me, your future brother-in-law?”

Chi Yun’er chuckled. ”It’s better than being tricked out of my reputation at your engagement banquet, isn’t it? A brother and future sister-in-law who spread vicious rumors about their own brother and his future wife? I’d rather not have relatives like that!”

The young man standing in the middle of the room had certainly gotten an earful of drama.

’It’s true that every family has its own troubles. The boss’s younger brother is a real piece of work.’
