When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 383: Chapter 1140: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in a Period Novel (27)

Xiao Chengnan nodded in agreement. ”I think so too. That’s why I moved out of my house and into the employee dorms. Hmph, whenever they try to set me up on a blind date, I just apply to go out on a transport run...”

A moment later, Station Chief Xiao hung up the phone. He took out a piece of paper with his notes and handed it over. ”Here. These are the addresses from previous years that received shipments of more than half a railcar of Huoxiang Zhengqi Water. It’s just the station names and the sender and receiver info, nothing else. I don’t know how much help it’ll be.”

”If it is helpful, then I’ll shamelessly ask for a detailed list for you.”

Chi Yun’er nodded and thanked him repeatedly, taking the paper to look it over.

The plant used to make Huoxiang Zhengqi Water has specific requirements for its growing environment. It thrives in high temperatures and ample sunlight—in regions with an average annual temperature of 19–26°C—and has particular rainfall needs.

Currently, there hadn’t been any research into cultivating the plant across different regions. Instead, production was simply scaled up in its natural habitat.

This meant that the manufacturers of Huoxiang Zhengqi Water were also regionally limited.

Kyoto General Hospital was a key institution supported by the government, enjoying priority supply for many medicines. However, many places in the hot and humid south, where demand was high, had to wait in line.

The names of the organizations on the list were all well-known, sizable, and offered generous benefits. An idea in Chi Yun’er’s mind grew clearer and clearer.

She smiled, pressing her lips together, and thanked him once more, but she didn’t ask for the detailed shipping list. She believed these organizations would have their own supply channels.

However, Chi Yun’er did ask a few things about cargo transport before saying her goodbyes and leaving.

This time, she went to a newspaper office, again looking for an acquaintance: her own cousin-in-law!

’See? That Fang Yuying really has no judgment at all. Couldn’t she see that I, Chi Yun’er, am a walking network of contacts?’

Her cousin-in-law treated her like a child, taking out snacks to appease her.

Chi Yun’er smiled and asked for some old newspapers from the business section to take home and look through. She jotted down some of the southern organizations that were developing well and were generous to their employees.

After a night of searching and comparing, she had a list of over a dozen organizations!

The next day, she returned to the hospital, asked her aunt for permission to use the phone, and called these organizations one by one from a quiet office to discuss the matter.

Since she was representing Kyoto General Hospital, she leveraged the organization’s reputation. She spoke of lofty ideals like mutual assistance and friendly negotiations between affiliate organizations—phrases that, while a bit hollow, deeply resonated with people of that era.

Coupled with her sweet voice and thorough preparation, every word she said struck a chord. She quickly negotiated the deals and signed the agreements via fax.

Back at the hospital, Chi Yun’er reported the matter to Gu Nianchi.

Gu Nianchi took the stack of agreements and flipped through them. She stared blankly for a long moment before looking up hesitantly at Chi Yun’er. ”Yun’er, are these all real?”

”You traded Huoxiang Zhengqi Water for southern canned fruit, preserved fruits, Pu’er tea, lotus root powder, dried fish...”

Chi Yun’er nodded. ”That’s right. The agreements are all signed.”

Gu Nianchi felt a little dizzy. ”It’s because the agreements are signed that I feel like this is all wrong. Huoxiang Zhengqi Water can be traded for this much?”

Chi Yun’er whispered mysteriously, ”Auntie Gu, the purchase price for Huoxiang Zhengqi Water is cheap, but we’re trading it at its list price. Besides, don’t we have to account for shipping fees and all that?”

”We’re bartering, trading at our market price for their cost price. After all, these are employee benefits. Because the quantities are large, the various fees are spread out, so it doesn’t actually add up to much.”

’Everything she said sounded right, yet Gu Nianchi felt something was off, though she couldn’t put her finger on it. If it weren’t for the fact that they were backed by a major institution like the hospital and that all the benefits were being distributed evenly to every employee, what Chi Yun’er was doing would be blatant profiteering!’

”They aren’t stupid. How could they agree?”

Chi Yun’er shrugged. ”Auntie Gu, you just don’t know how massive the profits at these factories are. What they care about is the prestige of getting a benefit item like Huoxiang Zhengqi Water from the Capital City, not the price.”

”On top of that, they even signed agreements with me giving us priority for future trades.”

Gu Nianchi really couldn’t understand what the world was coming to. She could only say dazedly:

”Alright. I’ll show this to the Director later. If there are no issues, you can continue with it.”

Chi Yun’er hummed in agreement and returned to her desk, taking out a pen and notebook to scribble and sketch.

Before the end of the workday, Chi Yun’er was hauled into the Director’s office by Mr. Chi. Besides the Director and Gu Nianchi, the head of the finance department, the warehouse supervisor, and others were also there.

”Little girl, why don’t you tell us about your plan,” said the Director, a white-haired old man who had more or less watched Chi Yun’er grow up. He shook his head with a smile.
