When She Stops Being Dramatic

Chapter 394: Chapter 143: The Green Tea Female Supporting Character in a Period Novel (30)

”Oh, right. I checked in for work before that day.”

Everyone thought about it and realized that was true. The summer heat relief items had already arrived at the warehouse and were distributed over the past two days. Naturally, they wouldn’t be given to people who reported for duty later.

Fang Yuying’s expression soured. She sneered, ”Chi Yun’er, you clearly have an easy path laid out for you. Why can’t you leave a way out for others?”

”If you had said all this earlier, I wouldn’t have been made a laughingstock.”

Chi Yun’er raised an eyebrow and chuckled softly. ”It was Mr. Fang himself who felt the hospital was being unfair, thinking that as the vice director’s daughter, I received special treatment.”

”But search your heart and ask yourself, who’s the one who’s really been using underhanded methods?”

”AHEM. Let me introduce myself. I am the temporary director of the benefits department. We’ll be distributing the summer heat relief items from the 10th to the 12th of this month. I hope everyone will actively cooperate with the information verification conducted by the staff from the Human Resources Department.”

”Only those whose information is confirmed to be correct can collect their items. This year, there is a wide variety and generous quantity of heat relief items. They are the hospital’s reward for everyone’s hard work...”

”Some of the items will be similar to the consolation gifts from today. Of course, we still have two or three days. Does anyone have any good suggestions? What kind of summer item, the kind that makes everyone green with envy, do you want to have?”

Her words immediately shifted the nurses’ attention. Who had time to dwell on someone who clearly got in through the back door herself, yet was always accusing others of using connections, being petty and scheming, and treating everyone else like a fool?

Besides, Chi Yun’er was beautiful in a way that inspired admiration rather than jealousy. She spoke with a smile, and her words were sweet.

The nurses couldn’t resist and immediately warmed up to her, all talking at once:

”Director Chi, will there be watermelon? We’re not being greedy, but watermelon is an absolute must for summer heat relief...” What kind of summer would it be without watermelon? Besides, buying it yourself and having your workplace issue it are two fundamentally different things!

”Can we get mung beans? Mung bean soup is the best for relieving heat and quenching thirst. Add a pinch of rock sugar, let it cool, and it’s more comforting than soda...” Mung beans were economical and practical—a single handful could make a whole pot. As medical staff, they were more focused on the effects.

”Director Chi, will the Mid-Autumn Festival benefits change? It’s not going to be mooncakes and pomegranates again, is it?” Even the most delicious things get old if you have them year after year.

”And will the Dragon Boat Festival still just be zongzi?”

Chi Yun’er stood in the center of the crowd, trying her best to catch what everyone was saying.

She realized half of them were just joking around. ’The benefits for this time haven’t even arrived, and they’re already thinking about the next ones?’

She laughed and held up her hands to quiet them down. ”Alright, I understand what everyone wants. Don’t worry, I promise this year’s summer heat relief items will satisfy every single one of you.”

”As for the benefits for future holidays, our benefits department will take your suggestions and actively fight for them with the hospital leadership. Everyone needs to believe that our hospital will continue to develop and get better and better...”

Chi Yun’er was afraid of getting her parents into trouble, so she hadn’t dared to correspond with them. She could only rely on newspapers and television to understand the situation in the Capital City.

With the rapid development of Xiahua’s economy, technology, and education, hospitals were popping up one after another, like bamboo shoots after a spring rain.

The once-famous General Hospital, which had held a dominant position, fell far behind new or private hospitals in terms of salary, benefits, housing, and equipment. As a result, new talent was unwilling to join, and experienced veterans with solid skills were poached by other institutions.

Without any notable doctors, the General Hospital’s glory days gradually faded, never to return. Not only did patients from other regions stop coming, but even local residents began treating it like an ordinary clinic, only visiting for minor ailments like headaches and fevers.

The hospital’s profits dwindled. Employee salaries and benefits stagnated and then decreased, forcing people to seek other opportunities just to make a living. This created a vicious cycle, which ultimately ended with the hospital being acquired by a private individual.

The old-timers who were unwilling to leave and had remained loyal were simply bought out of their pensions...

This was a blow they couldn’t bear to see!

Seeing how cheerful and motivated everyone was now, Chi Yun’er secretly vowed that she had to keep the General Hospital running. She absolutely could not let it be overtaken by competitors due to poor management or lack of funds.

After quickly distributing the samples, Chi Yun’er, along with Jiang Yihua and a little follower, continued to run around to manufacturers to procure the benefit items.

By noon, she and Jiang Yihua arrived at the state-run restaurant, foreheads glistening with a thin layer of sweat, panting for breath.

”What took you so long?” The Jiang Family parents didn’t dare say a word, but Mrs. Chi pulled her daughter’s hand and asked in a low voice, ”Yun’er, why are you just like your father? Once you start working, everything else takes a backseat.”

”You’ve only been on the job for a few days. Don’t tell me the hospital can’t function without you?”
