Chapter 2279: Chapter 2280: Void Network

Angel previously thought the Dalmatian had something important to tell him, such as some rumors in the Nightmare Realm related to Shava.

But unexpectedly, the Dalmatian just constructed a network to send him dog barks. Although from a research perspective, this network is extraordinary, connecting two different worlds with many opportunities for study.

But from a practical standpoint, currently, it serves no purpose.

However, setting aside the Dalmatian.

Simply discussing the ability of the Void Traveler, Angel is very, very interested.

He had heard of interdimensional communication before, but real-time interdimensional communication is something he is seeing for the first time. If one were to make a comparison, it’s like the vast universe where Earth is located, establishing real-time communication between planets. And according to the information Angel obtained from the holographic tablet, at least when Jon crossed over to the Wizards’ Realm, it had not yet achieved full real-time communication; even with the moon closest to Earth, transmitting information to Earth still had over a second of delay.

But previously, when Angel talked with the Dalmatian through the ”line,” he felt no delay whatsoever.

This made Angel find it very intriguing, even though the Void Traveler could become a hyper-spatial distance information receiving station in the Void, such a distant connection should entail some delay, but Angel felt nothing.

This leads Angel to suspect that perhaps the ability of the Void Traveler is actually a higher-dimensional way of receiving information.

The previous ”line” could probe into the Mind Space, which was already telling.

One must know that the specific location of the Mind Space is difficult for even scholarly Wizards to define. Yet almost all Wizards acknowledge that the Mind Space, like the Land of the Soul, exists in higher dimensions.

The Void Traveler’s ability to materialize the intangible and probe the ”line” into Angel’s Mind Space sufficiently demonstrates that its ability has already touched higher-dimensional existence.

Only in higher dimensions that Wizards do not understand might such real-time interdimensional communication appear.

Thinking of this, Angel can’t help but lament that Wizards have historically valued the Void Traveler too little.

Though the scarcity and difficulty in encountering Void Travelers are primary reasons, how could the arrogance of Wizards not also be a reason? Weak and shy as they are when facing any creature, Wizards naturally think there is nothing worth noticing or studying in them.

Even Angel prior to this did not pay much attention to Void Travelers.

But looking back now, he can’t help but be dumbfounded.

Void Travelers might have very weak individual strength and lack offensive capabilities, but whether it’s their tracking ability, Void transit, or the exclusive network of Void Travelers, these are all very powerful abilities.

Especially the network constructed among Void Travelers; if Wizards could master it, it would be a strategic-level discovery. Based on this, there is considerable room for operation, and numerous application models can be developed. If the number of individual Void Travelers were a bit higher, or if Wizard scholars cracked various mechanisms of the Void network, it might even become a revolutionary supernova.

Of course, discussing these matters now is still premature, as Void Travelers won’t obediently be domesticated for research purposes.

Returning to their abilities. After comprehending the various abilities of the Void Traveler, Angel dared not underestimate them any longer, or rather, he would never underestimate any creature after this; weakness is merely relative, some forms of strength cannot be seen with the naked eye.

...

”According to the Dalmatian, it just wants you to build this kind of network.” Angel paused: ”How long does it plan for this network to last?”

This question subtly asks how long Wang Wang will stay here because maintaining the network requires Wang Wang’s presence.

And Angel hopes Wang Wang can stay a bit longer.

Mainly because he is eager to learn more about Wang Wang’s abilities; if it can stay by his side, perhaps there would be an opportunity for in-depth research. Moreover, assistance might be needed from Wang Wang with the Spatial Tempest over there.

Wang Wang: ”Master didn’t specify how long to maintain it, but Master hopes to communicate with you anytime.”

Angel inwardly grumbled, thinking that the Dalmatian wants to communicate with him anytime... perhaps it’s planning to talk in dog language?

Though he greatly wishes to snark, Angel can’t help but appreciate the hidden meaning in the Dalmatian’s words: if Wang Wang is willing to obey the Dalmatian’s commands, then it likely won’t leave in the short term. Only then can the communication network be established anytime.

”So it seems I will have to trouble you for a while.” Angel said with a smile.

”Trouble me?” Wang Wang did not initially understand Angel’s meaning but reacted shortly and shook its head: ”No trouble, I’ll arrange a tribesman to stay on your side so that you can communicate with Master anytime.”

Huh? Angel was stunned, only arranging a tribesman?

”Didn’t you say this network needs you to construct it?” Angel asked, puzzled.

”That’s correct, but I don’t need to contact personally. I can let a tribesman contact me through the net... network, and I contact Master.”

In short, Wang Wang planned not to be the receiver but to act as a relay station.

Angel’s smile froze on his face: ”...I thought you would stay.”

Wang Wang hesitated for a moment, then said: ”I still have many other things.”

Wang Wang had decided this right from the beginning.

Though the Dalmatian had urged it not to disobey Angel and listen to Angel’s suggestions, the Dalmatian did not explicitly require Wang Wang to stay by Angel’s side.

Due to certain matters, Wang Wang greatly respected the Dalmatian, but it also did not want to lose its freedom. In its view, staying by Angel’s side and obeying Angel’s suggestions while unable to disobey equals losing oneself.

As the sole bearer of wisdom among the Void Travelers, if it lost itself too, the challenging future for its kin would become even harder.

It does not wish to see this happen.

At the same time, it does not wish to break its promise to the Dalmatian, so it decided from the start to complete the task and go. As for maintaining the network, arranging a cooperative tribesman for Angel at that time would resolve the issue.

In this way, as long as I stay away from Angel, I won’t be restricted by having to follow Angel’s opinions.

Angel had no idea what Wang Wang was thinking and still wanted to try to persuade it: ”But your tribe can’t understand what I mean either.”

Wang Wang naturally knew that its tribe lacked intelligence, but it had already formulated a plan earlier, so it wasn’t worried.

With a gentle movement, a Void Traveler about the size of an adult’s head appeared beside Wang Wang.

In the view of energy, this Void Traveler looked as flimsy as soft jelly, but its color wasn’t purely transparent. Instead, it had a very light tint of purple, akin to a light purple crystal.

”This one will follow you from now on.” Wang Wang paused and continued, ”You just need to touch the center of your brow with your left index finger, and it will know you need to enter... the network.”

— Now when Wang Wang mentioned the word ”network,” it rolled off the tongue more smoothly and found the term quite fitting.

”I’ve already taught it to understand this gesture, so you can try it out.”

Angel glanced at the light purple Void Traveler. It noticed Angel’s gaze and, although it displayed fear, it did not retreat. It seemed braver than the other Void Travelers outside.

Angel didn’t make the gesture because Wang Wang was so confident; it must have already explained everything beforehand.

”Entering the network is fine, but I’ll also need to give it other tasks from time to time, and these tasks are hard to communicate with a single gesture.” Angel attempted to persuade once more.

”Other tasks? What tasks?” Wang Wang asked, puzzled.

”I have no idea when the Dalmatian will contact me, so it has to stay outside and can’t be hidden, right?”

Wang Wang nodded.

”And if it stays outside, problems are likely to arise. In the human world, you are known as Void Travelers and are very rare. Many human wizards are interested in you, and seeing a Void Traveler beside me might lead to them trying to seize it.”

”To protect it, I’ll certainly have to give it different commands, and what if it doesn’t understand them? Even if I want it to gather, I need to issue different commands based on the current environment, which it may still not understand.”

”This is just one scenario, and reality often presents a mix of complex situations. Just like you wandering in the void, you can’t always have smooth sailing and might occasionally have to detour due to disasters.”

”When unexpected situations arise, I may not always be able to protect it smoothly...”

What Angel said was mostly fabricated. Even if he left the Void Traveler outside, he could use illusions to hide its form, preventing others from discovering it. So many of these situations were unlikely to occur; even if something dangerous happened, it probably wouldn’t involve the Void Traveler. After all, no one in the Wizards’ Realm knew its value.

The reason for these statements was purely based on the fact Wang Wang didn’t understand humans, playing on the difference in information.

After hearing Angel’s words, Wang Wang thought there was some truth to them. However, it believed there was a solution to Angel’s mentioned scenarios.

”You can hide it, like in some established private spaces.” Wang Wang’s gaze turned to Angel’s bracelet, for these Void creatures, finding spaces was an effortless task.

”If someone important looks for you, I’ll send a message to it through the network to have it leave your private space willingly.”

Angel frowned: ”Are you saying it can freely enter my spatial artifact?”

Wang Wang shook its head: ”No, biological private spaces are highly exclusive, unlike the free spaces outside. We can sense them but cannot directly enter.”

Hearing this, Angel felt slightly relieved. If a Void Traveler could freely enter others’ spaces, it would be terrifying. After all, he had many secrets hidden in his space, including the avatar of a Demon God. If something went wrong, the loss would be incalculable.

Wang Wang continued, ”But private spaces carry your intent. When it indicates a desire to leave the private space, you should be able to sense it. This way, important messages can be delivered promptly without affecting your daily life.”

Angel originally intended to argue that he couldn’t timely sense the Void Traveler, but Wang Wang seemed to understand the traits of private spaces, addressing this loophole immediately.

At this point, Angel couldn’t find any other examples to refute but was still unwilling to relent, pressing on stubbornly: ”But life is unpredictable, and there will always be times it’s needed. If it just becomes a medium between the Dalmatian and me, it’s equivalent to being a tool. Surely you don’t want it to become just a tool?”

Wang Wang didn’t care about the logical flaws in Angel’s words and directly said, ”If you need to tell it something, or you want it to help you with something, you can. You just need to enter the network, inform me at that time, and I’ll contact it to make it understand your intention.”

This plan of Wang Wang’s was quite cunning.

Angel looked deeply at Wang Wang. Wang Wang might not be oblivious to his intent, but it had already made its stance clear — it would rather be a messenger than stay.

Having come to this point, with Wang Wang even willing to degrade itself to a mere mouthpiece, resisting, Angel couldn’t press further.

He had considered using force to make Wang Wang stay. But... understanding the abilities of Void Travelers, Angel began doubting whether he could retain it; even if possible, he would need to set traps in advance. Moreover, it might be simpler to kill a Void Traveler than to trap it.

But Angel couldn’t kill Wang Wang, nor had he prepared traps, so forceful control was not an option.

However, Angel was truly eager to gain Wang Wang’s assistance. After all, in all the information he had gathered, it seemed only Wang Wang had the ability to carry someone through a Spatial Tempest.

Angel thought for a moment and said, ”Fine, let your tribesman stay.”

Joy flickered in Wang Wang’s eyes.

Then Angel added, ”I have a small request. Could you do me a favor before you leave?”

Since Angel wasn’t familiar with Wang Wang, he initially intended to build a relationship first and, when it seemed appropriate, propose an equitable and friendly deal for Wang Wang’s help in traversing a Spatial Tempest.

But given Wang Wang’s apparent urgency to leave, Angel had to skip the relationship-building phase and jump straight to the point.

”Of course, I won’t expect you to help for nothing. I’ll offer you something in return. As long as it’s within my capability, feel free to make a request.”

Angel didn’t know what Wang Wang needed, but since he had a request, he had to display a sincere attitude and see what Wang Wang required. As long as it wasn’t excessive, he would find a way to fulfill it as best as he could.
