Chapter 2278: Chapter 2279: Hope Across the Storm

”Is this your own ability, or do all Void Travelers have similar abilities?”

Angel’s question had already touched upon Wang Wang’s privacy.

Angel could see that Wang Wang didn’t want to answer, but strangely enough, after hesitating for a long time, Wang Wang still gave an answer, although it showed reluctance.

Initially, prying into Wang Wang’s privacy made Angel feel a bit embarrassed, but after hearing Wang Wang’s reply, Angel was directly stunned.

The ability of void traversal is something all Void Travelers possess. However, different Void Travelers have slight differences in void traversal, which may not be obvious in common Void Travelers.

But when comparing Void Travelers with Wang Wang, a huge difference is apparent.

Common Void Travelers, although capable of void traversal, generally don’t travel vast distances. If they encounter disasters in the void, whether natural calamities or invincible magical creatures, they stop and detour.

That is to say, ordinary Void Travelers cannot ignore the disasters in the void.

This is quite similar to Wizards using Spatial Artifacts or Space Sorcery when traveling through the void.

Just like when Nail Granny heard that Ivor Schubert was suspected to be trapped in the Reincarnation Casket of the Undead, she immediately followed a fleet of mechanical airships into the void to search for the Casket’s position, and these mechanical airships are capable of a certain degree of void traversal. However, like common Void Travelers, they definitely avoid void disasters, and the energy consumption is significant, incomparable to nearly no consumption like that of Void Travelers.

Wang Wang’s void traversal is different from that of common Void Travelers.

If the ability of common Void Travelers is a weak ability based on the spatial laws, then Wang Wang’s traversal belongs to a strong ability within the spatial laws.

Its traversal is somewhat similar to a Plane Teleportation Circle between planes; as long as it knows the coordinates on the other side, Wang Wang can ignore most disasters and proceed with point-to-point displacement.

It should be known that Plane Teleportation Circles are at least arranged by Legendary Level Space Wizards and Magic Rune Mages, but Wang Wang directly replaces the ability of plane teleportation with its own body.

Most importantly, its traversal can ignore most void disasters!

”When you traverse and encounter a spatial tempest, can you just go through it directly?” Angel couldn’t wait to ask this question.

Wang Wang didn’t understand why Angel suddenly got so excited, but after thinking for a moment, it emitted a spiritual wave: ”I can. Spatial tempests belong to relatively weak void disasters, my traversal can ignore such disasters.”

Angel’s eyes lit up, a strange guess arose in his heart: Could the method to break the impasse lie in Wang Wang?

Angel restrained the guess in his heart and continued to ask: ”Can the void traversal ability take others across as well?”

Wang Wang glanced at Angel: ”Do you want me to take you to the world where the Master is...the Nightmare Realm?”

Angel didn’t deny it, he just gazed at Wang Wang with expectancy.

”It’s impossible, no hope.”

”Why not? Can’t Void Travelers take people through?” Angel couldn’t help but ask.

Wang Wang: ”Common Void Travelers indeed can’t take people through, but I can. However, when I take people through, the energy consumption is enormous, and wanting to enter some special worlds, such as the Master’s Nightmare Realm, the energy consumption further skyrockets. I can’t take you for planar traversal.”

Angel originally showed a regretful expression, but hearing Wang Wang say this, hope arose in his heart once more.

”There’s no need for planar traversal. If it’s just a short distance traversal within the void, can you manage that?”

Wang Wang: ”It depends on how long the traversal distance is.”

”If you take me, how long could the void traversal be?”

Wang Wang pondered for a moment: ”If using this world as an example, taking my companions, I could roughly cross the entire continent directly; but if taking you, I could at most traverse across this forest area.”

The forest area Wang Wang referred to was the Green Forest Domain.

The longest stretch of the Green Forest Domain only reaches a hundred miles, so calculating this way, Wang Wang could only traverse a hundred miles in the void if taking him along.

And Angel remembers that the outer area of that spatial tempest spans several thousand miles. If Wang Wang really took him across, could he enter the spatial tempest?

That’s a bit difficult.

”What are you planning by asking these questions?” Wang Wang noticed that during the questioning on void traversal, Angel’s expressions kept changing, quite different from his previously composed demeanor.

Facing Wang Wang’s query, Angel felt a bit awkward directly expressing his hope for Wang Wang to take him flying.

After all, prior to this, they had no relations whatsoever, such a request would clearly be too forward.

Angel thought for a moment, deciding to temporarily restrain his anxiety. Even if he’s going to make a request, he needs to at least know the other’s intentions, see if he could make an exchange through negotiation.

Angel: ”Just a bit curious.”

Wang Wang skeptically replied: ”Is that so?” Such thorough inquiry into its confidential abilities, just out of curiosity? It found it hard to believe.

Angel didn’t respond to the suspicion, directly changing the subject: ”When we first met at the Boiling Gentleman’s place, I spoke a lot to you, yet you didn’t respond at all, I thought you didn’t want to communicate with humans. Seems today, I misunderstood.”

Wang Wang: ”No misconception. I truly don’t want to engage with any humans. If it weren’t for the Master’s instructions...hmph, I wouldn’t have come here.”

Actually, Angel was quite puzzled as to why Wang Wang seemed much more approachable this time, even answering questions on private abilities like void traversal. Now hearing Wang Wang’s words, Angel seemed to understand a bit.

”Is it because of it?” Angel pointed to the illusion of the Dalmatian in the air.

Wang Wang nodded.

Indeed. Angel silently said to himself, feigning nonchalance: ”Previously, I asked you why you were watching me repeatedly. Your answer was, you wanted to find me.”

”You still haven’t told me why you came to find me? Is there something you need my help with?”

This time Wang Wang clearly provided an answer: ”The Master sent me.”

From the previous conversation with Wang Wang, Angel had already guessed that its intentions might be related to the Dalmatian, so this answer wasn’t surprising, but somewhat puzzling: ”Did the Dalmatian send you to me for a reason?”

Wang Wang hesitated for a moment, its soft body slowly floated upwards, gradually approaching Angel.

Angel was momentarily dazed, faced with the approaching snot monster, he ultimately chose not to evade.

Then Wang Wang directly stuck to his face.

Literally face to face.

Soft and elastic, like icy cold gel-like skin, directly adhered to Angel’s face.

At first, Angel didn’t understand what Wang Wang wanted to do until a wave of strange information surged into his brow.

This wave of information was like a line that directly pierced through the Material Realm, reaching deep into a higher-dimensional Mind Space.

Angel originally thought Wang Wang was launching an attack on him, but the next second, a familiar wave came from that ”line.”

”Woof woof—”

This was naturally not calling Wang Wang’s name, but simply the sound of a dog barking.

Moreover, this barking sound was very familiar.

”Is it the Dalmatian?” Angel instinctively placed his mind’s wave onto that ”line.”

The ”woof woof” from the other side became more intense, seeming to express some sort of delight. With the frequent barking from the other side, Angel was also certain that the identity of the caller was definitely the Dalmatian.

”Are you the one talking to me now? Where are you?”

The response was still ”woof woof,” and it was that soulless dog barking. Angel was very familiar with this kind of barking from the Dalmatian. Back at the banquet in the Mushroom Garden, whenever Angel wanted to ask questions the Dalmatian didn’t want to answer, it would make such soulless barking and put on an innocent expression.

This was very similar to Toby back then: ”I’m just a bird, can’t understand human language.”

Later, after Angel spent considerable time with Toby and became a Master of Bird Language, Toby stopped using such an attitude to fool him.

But that didn’t work when facing the Dalmatian. Angel’s Dog Language was at level zero, so whenever the Dalmatian put on an ”I’m just an innocent little puppy” look, Angel was helpless.

Unable to get answers from the barking sound on the ”line,” Angel could only turn his gaze towards Wang Wang, who was still glued to his face.

Perhaps seeing Angel shift his gaze, Wang Wang slowly pulled away from Angel’s face. As Wang Wang withdrew, the ”line” piercing the Mind Space also disappeared.

”What’s going on?” Angel looked at Wang Wang floating in front of him: ”The barking I heard earlier, it should be the Dalmatian, right? How did its voice reach my mind? Is it nearby? Or is this what the Dalmatian asked you to convey to me?”

Angel had many questions. Wang Wang thought for a moment, then flew back to its previous position and began answering each one.

As Wang Wang explained, Angel gradually understood the situation.

The one speaking to him through the ”line” in his Mind Space was indeed the Dalmatian.

This wasn’t a recording or a message left by the Dalmatian, but the real-time voice of the Dalmatian, as if connected by phone. And the Dalmatian wasn’t nearby; it was still in the Nightmare Realm.

You could say this was even more frightening than the telephone Jon mentioned, basically an instant cross-world communication.

And all of this originated from Wang Wang’s ability, or rather, the Void Traveler’s ability.

The Void Travelers have a very mystical ability; they can connect all their kin through a certain special wave, integrating their thoughts into the same system. No matter how great the distance, real-time communication can be achieved through this system.

To Angel, this is essentially a special kind of network.

A network exclusive to the Void Travelers.

Void Travelers can, through this network, learn from their companions which areas have spatial disasters and shouldn’t be traversed directly; or where traces of the dangerous Liya Ni Demon Whale appear, to be avoided...

Basically, before Wang Wang was born, the Void Traveler’s network only had such functions. Because the Void Travelers were not very intelligent, even though this group had such a miraculous network, they used it merely for ”survival,” which is seeking benefits and avoiding harm.

However, after Wang Wang was born, it possessed intelligence surpassing all other Void Travelers. Thus, it integrated the network, gathering those scattered across the infinite void together through this network.

Though Void Travelers themselves are quite weak, when many gather together under the command of a special network, life becomes much better than before. Even when encountering some magical creatures of the void, they can achieve victory under effective command; previously, they could only escape when encountering any such creatures.

Wang Wang has already become the ”wise brain” of this special network and has gained more Void Traveler followers because of it.

Later, when Wang Wang was avoiding a Liya Ni Demon Whale, it came to the territory of the simmering gentleman, got captured, and other Void Travelers organized a large group of companions through the network to rescue Wang Wang from the simmering gentleman’s laboratory.

It can be said that under Wang Wang’s reform, this network evolved from a ”disaster map” to a true ”information exchange network.”

The reason the Dalmatian had Angel retrieve Wang Wang from the simmering gentleman was because it valued this network.

Later, the Dalmatian had Wang Wang come to the Nightmare Realm to meet it to build a network that could connect directly with Angel.

Building the network was also simple: leave a Void Traveler by the Dalmatian’s side, and Wang Wang would serve as the cross-dimensional intermediary server, receiving information from the Dalmatian’s side and relaying it to Angel, thereby establishing this one-way network.

The dog barking earlier was indeed the Dalmatian, communicating with Angel from the Nightmare Realm through the network constructed by the Void Travelers.

...

”The Dalmatian had you come over just to build a network to speak with me?” After listening to Wang Wang’s explanation, Angel temporarily put aside those intriguing abilities that piqued his curiosity and asked about the Dalmatian’s intention first.

”Network? That’s quite a creative term.” Wang Wang paused and replied, ”Indeed, it was just to build a network.”

”Didn’t it tell you anything else? For instance, to convey something to me?”

”No other instructions.” Wang Wang hesitated as it said this. The Dalmatian did actually have some instructions, like telling Wang Wang not to go against Angel and to try to follow his arrangements.

Although Wang Wang did not plan to defy the Dalmatian’s intentions, it didn’t want to directly convey those words to Angel.

”Really nothing else?” Angel could tell Wang Wang had more to say, so he asked again.

Wang Wang shook its head: ”No.”

Angel squinted his eyes: ”Alright, then I’ll ask the Dalmatian directly, and you let me talk to the Dalmatian.”

Wang Wang didn’t refuse and attached itself to Angel’s face again.

After a while, Angel quietly pulled Wang Wang away from his face.

He indeed managed to speak with the Dalmatian, but... he couldn’t understand it!

”How do you communicate with the Dalmatian? Where did you learn Dog Language?” Angel stared at Wang Wang.

Wang Wang looked confused: ”What Dog Language? The gentleman communicates with me directly, you know.”

Hearing this, Angel finally understood.

The Dalmatian did it on purpose.

You weren’t speaking, so why have Wang Wang build a network? To let me listen to dog barks?
