Warhammer Divine Throne

Mogiana suddenly lifted her head, first glaring fiercely at Laine, then resting her face against Laine’s chest and sighed, ”Yes, fortunately, I still have you. If not for you, I would have been transformed into a vampire and sacrificed to Nagash by now, wouldn’t I? That would have been a disaster for this Kingdom.”

Laine said nothing; he understood Mogiana’s feelings. The Lake God Witch sat on Laine, both remaining silent, maintaining a tranquil atmosphere.

After about five minutes, Mogiana finally began to recover, and the gloom on her face gradually faded.

Yes, as she said, luckily she still had someone to rely on. For the always proud and cold Lake God Witch, this was a new experience, but she didn’t mind it. On the contrary, having someone to consult, to confide in, felt good.

”Alright, I should go, Your Highness, get some rest.” However, good times are always very short-lived. After a few minutes, Laine expressed that he should leave, ”If you need anything, you can tell me directly or find Ollica to pass on your words to me.”

”Are you in such a hurry to leave?” Mogiana’s tone was peculiar, carrying an indescribable strange flavor, ”Am I so unpleasant to be around?”

”Uh...” Laine had to stay put, gently stroking Mogiana’s back and her golden hair, ”Your Highness, you’re a bit too sensitive. I just returned to the territory; many things require my attention.”

The Lake God Witch realized her indiscretion and murmured, ”I’ve been feeling a bit off lately, sorry, Laine.”

”It’s alright, I said I understand you.”

”Thank you, having you here makes me feel much better.” Mogiana leaned against Laine’s chest and continued, ”Um... do you have time tomorrow afternoon? My recent emotional instability might be because the poison hasn’t been fully cleansed... Could you purify me once more?”

”......”

When he emerged from the third-floor Prayer Room, Surya had been waiting for him for a long time. The female knight curiously asked, ”Why did it take so long? Did Her Highness Mogiana have any new instructions?”

”I reported all the details of the war to Her Highness Mogiana.” Laine said helplessly, ”Her mood is not very good.”

”Ah, that.” Surya nodded understandingly, ”Laine, Her Highness Mogiana is deeply disappointed with herself.”

”Yes, I can understand.” Laine indicated understanding, sitting opposite Surya.

”No, Laine, you only understand partially.” Surya shook her head, her face adorned with a faint smile while speaking about serious matters, ”Her Highness Mogiana must be very disappointed she couldn’t personally participate in such an important war.”

Laine furrowed his brows slightly, signaling for Surya to continue.

”The Lake God Witch holds unparalleled authority in Brittania; she has immense power and can always disregard the law. About four hundred years ago, the Lake God Witch of that time, Mariana, once confronted with ’the Youth’ King Louis’s Court Wizard, turned him into a frog in just one minute based solely on suspicion that he practiced Black Magic.” Surya continued, ”And as you know, twenty-seven years ago, Her Highness Mogiana led the Holy Grail Knights to storm the Royal Palace in Kulona, overthrowing ’Cruelty’ John II from the throne, declaring his abdication.”

”Yes, I know all this.” Laine nodded; in this country, the Lake God Witch’s power exceeds that of the King; this is widely known.

”Thus, every Lake God Witch sets extremely high standards for themselves; not only do they possess the ability to change the Kingdom’s fate, but they must also bear the responsibility of safeguarding the Kingdom, greatest ability, greatest responsibility. Therefore, publicly, Her Highness Mogiana is always proud, cold, and capricious; no one knows what she’s thinking.” Surya continued to explain to Laine, ”She demands a lot from herself since any relaxation might let the Kingdom slip into the abyss.”

Proud and cold? Capricious? Laine frowned, is this Mogiana? How does it differ from my impression?

However, Surya’s explanation made him completely understand why Mogiana’s mood was so poor.

The greater the power, the greater the responsibility; safeguarding the Kingdom is the Lake God Witch’s duty, she never evades it and faces it bravely. Yet, Mogiana is now gravely injured due to the Vampire’s plot, while knights and vampires are fighting fiercely on the frontlines, while Laine led people on a life-or-death mission to Musillon, she could only be a bystander.

What torment and pain would this be to the proud Mogiana?

Just like the Emperor, helplessly sitting on the Golden Throne, watching his Empire collapse, powerless.

”I understand.” Laine fully understood; he had not been in the Knight Kingdom for long, and clearly, he did not understand the Lake God Witch as profoundly as Surya did.

Seeing he understood, the female knight’s sea-blue eyes twinkled slightly and then turned invisible; she put on a smile again, ”What would you like to eat tonight? I will arrange for the chef to prepare.”

”Tonight I want to eat...”

......

Five days later, in Brittania, Kingdom of Kulona, inside the Throne Hall.

The aged Knight King Richard was reviewing documents.

In the north of the Kingdom, Barbarian Raiders from the Northern Wasteland continuously harassed the Kingdom’s coastline; in the south of the Kingdom, Duke of Borelion engaged in yet another contest with Count Tobalo from Estalia to reclaim his territory.
