The Golem Mage

Liam stood beside the king and the golden armoured knight, suppressing a smirk that threatened to spill across his face.

Things had turned out far better than he had anticipated, though the outcome was vastly different from what he initially planned, the escalation of events was beyond his imagination, but he enjoyed every second of it because it ultimately worked in his favour.

Initially, Liam’s sole intention in reporting Alec was to see him punished, a brief stint in the royal jail or being forced to destroy the golem that had caused the fatality would have sufficed.

He just wanted Alec humiliated, subjected to ridicule for a while, but never in his wildest dreams had he thought the king would take the matter so far, penalizing Alec’s entire team also and stripping the War God Mage Academy of their championship title and right to have their names recorded as winners.

While this level of severity wasn’t what Liam had aimed for, he still found himself relishing the outcome, the punishment of the War God Mage Academy ensured that the hierarchy of the Great Eight Academies remained unshaken.

The king’s decision to redistribute their first position reward back didn’t bother Liam in the least.

After all, none of the Royal Mage Academy members cared about the tangible prizes from the tournament.

For the top eight academies, the competition wasn’t about the listed rewards, it was about securing the largest shares of the resources that would be allocated to the Great Eight academies that lead in the tournament .

While the rest of the academies fought over scraps, and now, with the War God Mage Academy dethroned, the pie would be divided among the previous great eight.

The king’s actions may have seemed merciful on the surface, but Liam knew better, the War God Mage Academy wasn’t being pardoned, they were being deliberately cut off from their rightful share.

As Liam revelled in the turn of events, a loud bang jolted him out of his thoughts.

The noise echoed across the arena, drawing the attention of everyone present, heads turned in unison toward the source of the sound.

All eyes landed on Alec, he stood there, his hand still raised, his expression steely and unyielding.

Instructor Jasper, his senior, was reeling back, clutching his cheek where Alec’s slap had landed.

The crowd stared in shock, and this was the first time Alec had ever laid hands on one of his superiors.

But Alec was livid and his anger boiling over but he still struggled to hold back.

To him, it was crystal clear that the king had orchestrated this entire ordeal to target their academy, yet, instead of getting support from those close to him, Instructor Jasper had the audacity to accuse him and approach with baseless complaints.

It wasn’t the first time Jasper had acted against Alec or the team in public before, but this time was different.

The frustration Alec felt was compounded by the sheer in gratitude,

‘Had Jasper already forgotten that Alec had risked his life to save him during the blood moon battle?, If it weren’t for Alec, Jasper likely wouldn’t even be alive to voice his grievances about the academy’s situation’.

Many thought.

Jasper’s cowardice infuriated Alec even further, while jasper knew, as much as anyone, that the king was targeting them unfairly, Jasper still didn’t dare direct his anger at the real culprit.

Instead, he chose the easy path, transferring his aggression onto someone he perceived as powerless to retaliate, Alec.

But today, Jasper had pushed Alec too far, he’d caught him at the worst possible moment, a time when Alec no longer cared about the prying eyes of the spectators or the potential consequences of his actions.

“You dare slap me?” Jasper’s voice trembled, his left hand clutching his cheek, disbelief evident in his tone.

His eyes widened in shock as he struggled to comprehend where Alec had summoned the audacity.

Alec, however, didn’t flinch, his bloodlust was palpable, rising like a storm, without a word, he gripped the air, and in an instant, his Changdao appeared in his hand, he hadn’t even bothered summoning the blood scythe as he wanted to be close to jasper.

The blade sang through the air, stopping just shy of Jasper’s neck, its hum was sharp and sinister, vibrating slightly as if eager to taste blood, Jasper stood frozen, beads of sweat trickling down his temple as he felt the chilling presence of the weapon so close to his skin.

“Look at him, showing his bloodthirsty nature again.

So young, yet already so dangerous.

My lord, such mages must be eradicated!” a sycophant from one of the High tier clan patriarchs sitting in the back of the First Section spoke up, his voice dripping with false righteousness as he sought to curry favour with the king.

But Alec didn’t even spare the man a glance, his focus remained locked on Jasper, the blade trembling faintly, as though it shared Alec’s fury and was barely restrained from striking.

“If you so much as make a peep against me again, I wouldn’t mind blowing you up right here, right now,” Alec said, his voice low and menacing.

In his hand, he summoned a random spell card, one that had been gotten from the corpse of a low Tier 6 Demonic Beast.

But to the spectators, however, it looked like Alec was holding a Peak Mid-Tier attacking talisman.

Six glowing energy balls were embedded on it, which indicated its Tier 6 nature, yet the sheer energy radiating from the talisman was close to Tier 7, giving everyone the chilling realization that it must have been crafted from a Peak Tier 6 Demonic Beast that was close to breaking through to the next realm.

This revelation only deepened the crowd’s astonishment, as many academy leaders exchanged glances, their thoughts aligning on one conclusion, that the War God Mage Academy might truly have nothing to do with the exceptional resources Alec had been seen to be using.

But still, the question lingered, how did a mage so young come into possession of treasures that even seasoned leaders would battle fiercely over?

“Pardon me, Your Highness,” the Dean of the War God Mage Academy interrupted, his voice calm yet laced with authority.

“It seems I misheard you, did you say you intend to erase our academy’s name as champions after we’ve already won?

All because of what?

A student of mine killed a guard?

When did your subjects investigate this matter so thoroughly that you felt justified in rendering such a verdict?

Or is it that Your Majesty simply does not hold the War God Mage Academy in high regard?”

The arena fell silent as gasps rippled through the crowd, no one had expected the Dean to speak out so directly, especially not against the king himself.

Alec was momentarily stunned by the Dean’s unexpected support and felt his anger abate slightly.

Gratitude flickered in his eyes as he turned his attention back to Jasper, with a dismissive push, Alec shoved Jasper to the ground, deeming him unworthy of further confrontation.

Killing someone like Jasper, a mage who cowered before the strong and preyed on the weak, would only sully his hands.

“Now that I think about it, I have a question of my own, who concluded this so called investigation that found me guilty?

Did they truly investigate why my golem killed the guard in question?

Or was this judgment passed without a shred of fairness?” ” Alec began, his voice cutting through the tense atmosphere, as his words hung in the air like a blade,

“Because I don’t think there is any fairness involved in this judgement at all, I’ve just been painted black and told to roll over.

But let me remind everyone of the laws of the Northern Kingdom!

In any emergency situation, such as the Blood Moon Battle, any mage qualified to fight who attempts to flee when there is no order to retreat yet is deemed a deserter and can be eliminated on sight by anyone who witnesses it, that is the law!” Alec shouted, his voice echoing through the arena.

“

Alec’s words reverberated across the stunned crowd.

“There are multiple witnesses who can confirm that the mage in question was a Tier 5 Mage who refused to fight against the Demonkin, he was a deserter who continuously tried to use his status to cause chaos, and I put him to rest.

So tell me, Your Majesty, how exactly am I guilty?”

His voice had risen to a near roar, the intensity of his conviction sending a wave of discomfort through the gathered audience.

Many turned their eyes to the king, now waiting with bated breath to see how he would respond, Alec’s bold declaration had left the king in a precarious position, a ditch of his own laws that Alec had so skilfully dug.

The silence that followed was deafening, as all eyes were now on the throne, anticipating the king’s next move.
