The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 239: Goodness, Seriously Terrifying

Just like that, a dayʼs time had passed.

On the second day, while Shien was still in the middle of his dreams, a sound started repeating by his ear.

”Itʼs time to get up, Mister Shien.”

Shien dazedly heard that voice and then slowly woke up.

When Shien finally fully woke up, he discovered a feminine figure standing by his bed.

”Good morning, Mister Shien.”

The first thing that Shien saw when he opened his eyes was a beautiful maid. She was using a beautiful yet monotonous voice to greet him.

”…”

Shienʼs sleepiness instantly vanished. He just stared speechlessly at the maid by his bedside, dumbfounded. He stayed stunned that way for a good while before he finally came back to himself.

Yet, while Shien was stunned and speechless, that beautiful maid also didnʼt say a thing. She just continued to wait quietly with an unusually calm expression.

Silence strangely hung within the room.

After an unknown amount of time, Shien finally closed his eyes and continued to lie back on the bed as if nothing had happened.

Seeing Shien act that way, Lasha calmly spoke.

”Please do not run away from reality. This is not a dream, nor is it a hallucination. This is the completely real reality, so please get up.”

Hearing that, Shien had to finally admit to himself that he was indeed not dreaming.

But since he isnʼt dreaming, the scene before him is a bit strange then.

”… Why are you here?”

Shien tentatively asked such a question.

”That is a meaningless question.” Lasha spoke with an utterly placid expression, ”A maid waking someone up is completely natural.”

True enough. This kind of natural occurrence happens quite often.

The problem with that though…

”Youʼre not my maid though, right?”

Shien pointed out that particular fact.

Too bad for him though, Lasha did not react at all.

”Since milady had me follow Mister Shien, then until milady returns, my job is to take care of Mister Shien.” Lasha calmly spoke, ”Please donʼt worry. A normal person like me may not be of any use on the battlefield, but daily everyday chores are within my abilities. I will not disappoint anyone when it comes to such things.”

”I-is that so?” Shien went mute for a bit before finally letting out a sigh after some time, ”Fine then. Being woken up by a beautiful maid is a great experience that not even money can buy, so Iʼll just go ahead and enjoy it.”

”Itʼs best that you can think that way.” Lasha spoke completely monotonously, ”Since Mister Shien has fully comprehended the situation, please get up already.”

”Alright.” Shien didnʼt drag it on either, and got right up from the bed.

However, when he did so, Shien discovered something else unbelievable.

”… Say, Lasha.”

”Yes, what might you need?”

”No, thereʼs nothing like that. I just wanted to ask something. Did I go to sleep without changing into my clothes last night?”

”No, you had indeed gone to bed in you sleepwear last night.”

”When why am I already fully dressed now?”

Yes, Shien had discovered that his clothes have all already been changed.

He himself also clearly remember having changed to his sleepwear last night before going to bed. How how is it that he is now fully dressed to go out, and so tidily at that?

Shien was rather puzzled by that.

However, Lasha then stated the following.

”Of course, this is because I changed you.”

That maid said something unbelievable.

”… Ha?”

Shien let out a dumb sound.

”I changed you.”

Lasha expressionlessly repeated her earlier words.

”No… When did you do this exactly?”

Shienʼs eyes widened.

”Before I called Mister Shien to wake up.” Lasha answered honestly.

”W-why did I not notice at all though?”

Shien was stunned.

”This is a meaningless question. Itʼs only natural that a maid should finish all the tasks before her master needs t order them. A maid that requires her master to personally order her about is unqualified.”

Lasha simply said those words like theyʼre completely natural.

Shien however started trembling.

”So it is… But what you did is a bit too terrifying though! I completely never even detected that Iʼve gotten my clothes changed!?”

Shien felt like he seemed to have encountered something super scary here.

”Please donʼt mind it.”

Lasha was still the same as always. The expression on her face hadnʼt changed the slightest.

”But…”

Shien still wanted to say something.

”Please donʼt mind it.”

Lasha once again repeated her earlier words. Itʼs as if sheʼs telling Shien that thereʼs no point in continuing to ask those meaningless questions.

”…”

Shien fell silent.

Goodness, this maid seems kind of scary.

Especially since Shien had also noticed that his underclothes seems to have been changed too. It turned very clean, like itʼs something that was just washed.

This situation is something that Shien is even less able to deal with.

Could it be…

”D-did you even change the set underneath without me noticing as well?”

”Indeed.”

Lasha spoke without any change in expressions.

”That…”

The corner of Shienʼs mouth started twitching.

Lasha was still acting like itʼs all only natural. Itʼs like sheʼs telling Shien that all this was very normal.

Goodness, this maid really is kind of scary.

Yet, Shien just has to ask something that he mind very much about.

”Say, Lasha…”

”Yes, what might you need?”

”… When you changed my clothes, you didnʼt happen to see something that you shouldnʼt have, right?”

”Thereʼs no such thing.”

”I-is that so?”

”Yes. As a maid, taking proper care of my master is my job and duty. For the sake of completing my work, thereʼs nothing that I shouldnʼt see.”

”… In other words, you saw it after all then?”

”Please donʼt worry. I have professional knowledge, so I know that men have normal physical reactions in the morning. Thus, Iʼve already helped Mister Shien properly resolve it.”

”Resolved it…!?”

”Thatʼs right. I wonʼt let Mister Shien feel a thing.”

”Not feel a thing?”

”If youʼre worried, then you may confirm it for yourself. Although, if youʼll forgive me for saying so, that is a meaningless action.”

”…”

Goodness, this maid isnʼt just kind of scary, sheʼs seriously terrifying!

He really does mind a lot! Just what did she do to him? How exactly did she deal with it!?

Somebody please tell meeeee!? (╯‵□′)╯︵┻┻

Shien broke.

”Alright Mister Shien, please stop holding your head while squatting already. Breakfast has already been prepared, so please head on to the dining room.”

Lasha calmly suggested that to Shien, who was squatting down in front of her, holding his head, and was acting like heʼs having a hard time.

Shien could only stand up and move toward the door in a somewhat broken state.

Lasha immediately followed. Much like the previous day, she solidly kept behind Shien by about three paces.

On the way, the two of them had the following conversation.

”Right, I havenʼt washed and brushed my teeth yet…”

”Donʼt worry.”

”… It canʼt be…?”

”Indeed.”

”…”

Heʼs decided. Next time, heʼs going to find and learn a skill that can directly detect others, or maybe something that lets him wake up the moment heʼs touched by someone else.

Otherwise, he might not even know it if that maid were to take him out and sell him off.
