The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 224: “You Lazy Princess.”

”Gaaaa——!!!”

Maybe it had detected the threat of death approaching it, but the half centipede monster finally started letting out panicked roars.

Faced with Lucy, descending from the sky like a goddess, shining Holy Sword in hand, charging at it, the monster took a final desperate action.

”Boom!”

With its body still trapped by the earth, the monster could only breath out dragon breath, shooting the most deadly blast of dragon breath yet up into the air like a blazing hot torrent at Lucy.

Lucy watched the huge wave of dragon breath coming straight for her, but she reacted with utter calm. Not only did she not try to dodge, she instead charged straight forward into it.

”Ping!”

The light of the Holy Sword spread out onto Lucyʼs body.

”Vrring!”

The light of the protection also started shining.

Lucy could already resist the attack of the dragon breath to a certain degree while under the protection of the [Protection of Heroic Spirits] skill. With the addition of the power of the Holy Sword now, which weakened all damage against her by half, the monserʼs dragon breath was no longer a threat against her.

Thus, Lucy was like a stream of light blasting straight up through a waterfall. She blasted through the blazing dragon breath and arrived before the monster.

”Cut!”

The next second, Lucy raised her Holy Sword and enhanced its blade with [Magic Sword].

A point worth mentioning is that the originally crimson light of the [Magic Sword], after merging with the holy energies of the Holy Sword, had transformed into a brilliant gold.

The golden [Magic Sword] blasted forth from the Holy Sword. Then, Lucy swung it down, striking the monsterʼs head and exiting from the centipede like tail like a flash of light, instantly cutting right through the monsterʼs entire body.

”————”

The monsterʼs roars suddenly ceased.

”Tap!”

With a clear tap of her footstep, Lucy handed on the ground with her shining Holy Sword in hand and facing away from the monster. Then, she slowly withdrew the magic power coming from her body.

And behind her, the monster simply froze there, not moving an inch for some time. Only a bit later did a near invisible line appear through the center of its body.

And with then, the monsterʼs body split apart following that line, turning into two halves down the middle as each half fell down in the opposite direction from each other.

”Boom…!”

Two booming impact rang out simultaneously.

The monster, split in half, impacted the ground, stirring up debris. It did not move at all after that.

”Whew…”

Lucy finally let out a breath as she turned around to face Shien.

Shien had the Holy Sword in one hand while the other was raised in a big thumbs up toward Lucy.

”Youʼre the coolest after all.”

Shien even made a somewhat unfitting comment.

Lucy immediately rolled her eyes and ignored Shienʼs teasing. Instead, she just sheathed her Holy Sword and headed over toward him.

”What you just used was enchant magic right?” Lucy arrived before Shein and spoke with some surprise, ”So thatʼs the magic you chose in the library, huh?”

”What?” Shien blinked, ”Did I not mention it before?”

”Not at all!” Lucy strongly contradicted him, ”When I asked you what kind of magic you chose before, you not only didnʼt answer, but instead, you even told me in an exaggerated manner that Iʼll find out later.”

”Yeah.” Shien wasnʼt embarrassed by her answer at all, ”And didnʼt you end up finding out just now?”

”Why you…” Lucy couldnʼt hold herself back from slapping Shien on his chest before finally continuing, ”That said though, this magic is actually pretty compatible with you. Itʼs very versatile, and only those with outstanding magic power can really use it to its real potential. Itʼs practically custom made for you.”

”Enough already. Someone like you who had enough magic power to alarm even the divine realm from birth has no right to talk about that to me.” Shien didnʼt care, but then he spoke curiously, ”Speaking of, with your magic power being so high, why didnʼt you learn magic yourself?”

Lucyʼs stills were all warrior type skills. At most there were the skills for improving magic power and magic recovery. Besides those, there wasnʼt a single skill that had anything to do with magic.

”With so much magic power, isnʼt it a shame to not learn magic?”

Shien believes to anyways.

But Lucy is of a different opinion.

”The Heroes throughout history were practically all melee specialized warriors. Thatʼs because their strongest weapon is their Holy Sword. Since itʼs a sword, were they supposed to instead act like a mage and use it as a staff?” Lucy so explained, ”Although there were also some Heroes who specialized in magic, since they already have the Holy Sword, then rather than using up valuable skill points to raise magic type skills, wouldnʼt it just be better to specialize in warrior type skills instead? Only that way will they be able to level up their skills the fastest and grow stronger, quicker.”

A personʼs skill points are limited. If someone were to train their magic, then they have to invest an enormous amount of skill points into magic type skills, leaving their warrior type skills to languish.

Although that way will give them more options via magic, so their overall strength will still improve. However, for Lucy, the Holy Sword is already the strongest possible weapon, and using the Holy Sword basically locks one into being a melee specialized warrior. Thus, itʼs just better to invest all the skill points into warrior type skills.

”Besides, learning magic is way too dull, and it requires a huge amount of time investment on research. Iʼm already super busy, so I donʼt want to end up burning the rest of my time to the point where I canʼt even rest anymore.”

Lucy seriously conveyed her thought, making Shien roll his eyes at her.

”Fine, youʼve got a point you lazy princess.” Shien then changed the subject, ”Moving on, letʼs go check out that monster.”

”Hn.” Lucy also nodded before quietly speaking, ”Iʼve never seen a monster like that before. Itʼs both wierd and full of strangeness, and itʼs also really strong too. We have to bring its corpse back and have the people at the magic research department properly analyze it.”

The two of them headed over to the monster while still chatting like that before looking over.

However, both Shien and Lucy were shocked at what they found.

”Sizzle…”

Before their eyes, the monsterʼs body suddenly started smoking like it was being burned up by an invisible fire. Even its body started turning faint, wavering. In the end, it completely disappeared like it really was a mirage.

”That…”

Shien was stunned at the sight.

”Itʼs disappeared?”

Lucy had a shocked face as well.

The two just stared at the empty ground before them, stunned. They didnʼt come out of it for some time, and only after an unknown amount of time did they finally exchange a look as both of them were utterly speechless.

This abnormal situation made the two of them rather uncertain on how to proceed.

”Well that does it. The corpse just evaporated.”

Shien started muttering like it didnʼt concern him.

”Why did it end up like this?”

Lucy also frowned deeply.

Even if that monster had a semi-corporeal form, it still shouldnʼt have just vanished after being slain, right? Demonic beasts without physical forms will also disappear after being defeated, but after disappearing, theyʼll generally leave behind a core like material of some kind. Not like this where it completely vanished.

Just whatʼs going on here?

Shien and Lucy fell silent, constantly reviewing the matter. Neither spoke for some time.
