The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 227: Only Thing That Sustained Me

Omnis.

The origin of the world, the source of the gods. The one known as the omnipotent and highest goddess.

That kind of existence has since become merely a legend by now.

But, at this moment, Shien saw her. Saw this peerless goddess lying down in a field of flowers as she deeply slumbered.

However, thatʼs not the thing that surprised Shien the most.

The thing that surprised Shien the most is that legendary goddessʼs looks.

”You two…”

Shien took a look at that slumbering goddess and then took a look at Nien with a speechless expression.

It couldnʼt be helped.

The Highest God Omnis that Nien mentioned looked exactly identical to her.

But when Nien stared at the goddess that was completely identical to her among the flowers, her eyes were cold, and even had a hint of hatred in them.

I know what youʼre thinking.” Nien spoke tonelessly, ”Thereʼs a reason for us looking identical.”

Only, Nien didnʼt seem to want to say what that reason is.

And Shien could feel it too, that itʼs a taboo subject.

Thus, Shien could only suppress his confusion and instead ask something else.

”Whatʼs with her then?”

Given that the Highest God Omnis was deeply slumbering like that, it feels like something unbelievable has happened to her.

As Shien thought that, Nien instead ended up breaking out in laughter.

”You think that something happened to her?” Nien spoke sarcastically, ”Thereʼs no way thatʼs possible. Sheʼs the all powerful Highest God, the greatest and most peerless existence. Baring the Demon King Claudis, who else could do anything to her?”

”… Then whyʼs she like that then?” Shien fell silent for a moment before asking, ”Is she really just simply sleeping?”

The response to that question was a firm answer though.

”Thatʼs right. She really is just sleeping. And this sleep has gone on for a thousand years at that.”

The sarcastic look on Nienʼs face not only didnʼt disappear, it even became more and more pronounced.

”In the eyes of that goddess, besides the Demon King Claudis, all else in the world are nothing more than something like a pebble on the side of the road.”

”Itʼs because she had created everything, that she ruled over everything. She could control all life and events with but a whim, and even the world itself is something that she can change with a snap of her fingers.”

”Thus, she places no importance in anything. She wonʼt seriously look at anything. The only thing that can actually get her attention is Demon King Claudis.”

As she spoke, Nienʼs tone turned more and more resentful.

”Even though she had wanted to defeat the Demon King since she was born. To defeat Claudis and slay the only natural threat to her. But after sheʼs reached her goal, she lost all interest in everything else.”

”After loosing the only thing she cared about, after loosing her lone obsession, was there really anything in this world that she could create at a whim thatʼs worth her paying attention to?”

”No, there isnʼt anything at all.”

Nien turned to look at Shien.

”The result is that woman decided to slumber. She believed that this world no longer required her to continue, nor is there any need for her to interfere anymore.”

”With that kind of thoughs, she havenʼt woken up once since the creation of the divine realm. She just continued to lie there, eternally existing alongside the world itself.”

”Arenʼt you stunned? Arenʼt you speechless?”

”But thatʼs the Highest God. This is the omnipotent Omnis. A true divine being beyond creation itself. Sheʼs completely different from us be it in thoughts or point of view.”

”She really is something, right?”

As she got to this point, Nienʼs tone of voice has already gotten very strange.

Itʼs like she resented something, but also that she was sorrowful for some reason. It made it that Shien really didnʼt know just what to say in response.

Shien only wanted to know one thing.

”Then, just why did you summon me?”

Shien asked the question that he wanted to know the most.

Rather than the unfathomable nature of the Highest God Omnis, rather than the relationship between Nien and that goddess, this was what Shien wanted to know more.

In response, Nien calmed herself back down and looked at Shien serenely. Then, she finally answered.

”I told you. I wanted you to defeat the Demon King.” Nien said, ”You might think that Iʼm lying, but this is the truth.”

”Truth?” Shien frowned as he spoke, confused, ”But the Demon King has already been defeated. And it canʼt possibly be resurrected at that. Unless something were to happen to the Highest God Omnis, then she can never return to this world? Was that not right?”

”Thatʼs right.” Nien nodded, but she then continued, ”However, just because the Demon King cannot be resurrected, doesnʼt mean that a new one canʼt appear.”

”New one?” Shien was stunned for a moment before his expression drastically changed.

He had basically guessed what Nien meant.

As expected…

”Someone is trying to create a new Demon King. Then theyʼll have the new Demon King replace the Old Demon King that canʼt be revived, take control of the demon race again, and then restart the war against the gods and mortals.”

Nien so stated unambiguously.

”Do you know why I summoned you at this time?”

The reason for that is simple.

”Itʼs because you have already made contact with this secret.”

Nienʼs words instantly reminded Shien of that half centipede monster.

That monster. It canʼt be…

”Donʼt worry, right now, thatʼs still just a monster is all. It wonʼt become the Demon King.” Nien first reassured Shien before continuing, ”But if things progresses on, then even if a new Demon King wasnʼt born, the three worlds and races of the gods, mortals, and demons will all end up seriously ruined by those pulling the strings in the dark. In the end, the war that has ceased for a thousand years may very likely be restarted, thus threatening the world.”

Itʼs for that sake that Nien summoned Shien.

”Whoʼs the one pulling the strings in the dark then?”

Shien immediately asked.

”I donʼt know.” Nien shook her head, ”Iʼve discovered this situation, but Iʼve not been able to discover who the ones orchestrating all of this is. Iʼm only certain that theyʼre definitely one of the Old Demon Faction, and their status within it is definitely not low either.”

Shienʼs frown turned deeper and deeper.

The reason for that isnʼt just because of how sudden this all was. The greater reason was that Shien wasnʼt sure if he should trust Nien.

Of course, Nien had definitely already read that from Shienʼs mind.

Thus, she came before Shein.

Shien observed that unbelievably beautiful goddess as if trying to see through her mind.

However, just then, Nien reached out, grabbed Shienʼs neck, and forcibly dragged Shienʼs head down.

”…!?”

Shienʼs eyes went wide with a disbelieving expression of shock.

”Mnn…”

Nien had already closed her eyes as her alluring lips blocked Shienʼs mouth.

An unbelievably hot and exciting kiss ensued between Shien and Nien, giving the two of them the appearance of a pair of lovers in hot embrace.

It was only after some time that Nien finally pulled her wet lips from Shien. She stared at the still in shock Shien and grinned while blushing.

”Whether or not to trust me, thatʼs for you to decide for yourself.”

Nien quietly spoke.

”I just hope that youʼll understand that youʼre the one that Iʼve waited a thousand years for, as well as being the only thing that sustained me.”

With those final words, Nien waved her hand and the space around the area warped.

Shien then vanished from the temple like he was never there to begin with.
