The Devil Does Not Need to Be Defeated

Chapter 116: A Complete Fracas

Recently, Leon had been constantly acting this way. Heʼd use all sorts of different excuses to try to make conversation with Vivian, which would then turn into various kinds of invitations.

It was completely obvious just what he was planning.

It wasnʼt just Vivian either. Even Lumia and Melika had been chatted up and invited by Leon several times now. If not for the fact that the two of them were easily scared and nervous from the start, and the fact that they were very guarded against men, they likely would have already been tricked by Leonʼs honeyed words.

Diere was the only exception. Back when Leon first tried to chat her up, she bluntly toss back a ”donʼt bother me”. It ended with Leon feeling awkward and embarrassed for a good while, which was why he didnʼt pester her any further.

Basically, Leon had hit on all the girls in Vivianʼs party in this past period.

Especially Vivian. Perhaps itʼs because sheʼs the party leader, but Leon was especially persistent with her. It was like he believed that if he could take down Vivian, then it would become far easier for him to get close to the rest of the girls in the party.

Vivian found the whole thing quite a headache.

Although Vivian did not particularly deny Leonʼs way of life, that didnʼt mean she supported it either.

In other words, although Vivian didnʼt particularly dislike Leon, she also didnʼt like him at all either.

Plus, Vivian wasnʼt like those shallow women who would fall head over heels for Leon just because of his looks and mannerism. The result is that there was no way that Vivian could end up liking Leon.

However, Vivian, gentle as she is, could not do as Diere did and rudely reject Leon either.

As the saying goes, one does not slap someone approaching with a smile. Since the other party was approaching with goodwill on the surface, Vivian didnʼt have any really good way of dealing with it.

Thus, Vivian could only reply in a roundabout manner.

”No need. When we reach the capital, I need to go see my friend.”

Vivian refused Leon that way.

However, when he heard Vivianʼs reply, not only did Leon not give up, he instead pushed forward.

”Speaking of, Miss Vivian had grown up in the capital with guildmaster Leili, so you must know a lot of people, right?” Leon spoke enthusiastically, ”Could you perhaps introduce one or two of them to me? I do quite want to make some friends in the capital.”

Vivian showed a bitter smile at that.

It wasnʼt that Vivian couldnʼt control herself, but that Leon was just being far too obvious, so Vivian really didnʼt know what to say.

The most troublesome thing is though, it wasnʼt just Vivian and Leon here.

”I think itʼs better not to trouble them, Leon.” Eudrice once again hugged Leonʼs hand and smiled, ”I knew people at the capital too, so how about I introduce some of my friends to you instead.”

Those words turned the atmosphere awkward.

Leon frowned minutely.

Eudrice however didnʼt notice at all. She just continued on smiling. However, the look in her eyes as she looked at Vivian was filled with hostility.

Even Vivian almost couldnʼt hold herself back from actually sighing instead of just doing so in her mind.

That was another thing that gave Vivian a headache.

From the start, Eudriceʼs hostility toward Vivian was very obvious.

No. It should instead be said that Eudriceʼs showed obvious hostility toward any woman that got closed to Leon.

As Leonʼs partner, Eudrice was completely infatuated with Leon, so she was very guarded against any woman near Leon.

This was especially true when it came to Vivian. Perhaps it was because Eudrice knew full well how much important Leon views Vivian, so she was worried that Vivian would take steal away Leonʼs attention. That was why she showed the most amount of hostility towards Vivian.

Before, back when the secret quest first begun. Didnʼt Eudrice had mentione that she had come along because Vivian was going to be there?

It was because she was so hostile and guarded against Vivian that she said those words in the first place.

It could be said that Eudrice showed up for the quest for the sole purpose of hindering Leon.

Leon seemed to have more or less guessed too, but he wasnʼt able to say anything about it.

After all, Eudrice had also been of great aid to Leon. Even though he knew that she was there to hinder him, Leon wouldnʼt say anything major about it. Instead, he just let it go without doing anything.

It wasnʼt because Leon couldnʼt control Eudrice. It was that Leon hadnʼt imagined that Eduriceʼs hostility against Vivian was that strong.

Leon had more than one woman in Lamdrion. His own playboy nature was something the Eudrice knew full well too, but she had never done anything special about it either. That was what gave Leon the impression that even if Eudrice came along, she wouldnʼt cause any issues, right?

If Shien knew about this, he would definitely have retorted.

”If this was in my previous life, it would definitely have turned into a complete fracas.”

Right?

For Leon to flirt around completely in the open like that, itʼs one thing for it to not have devolved into open combat, and yet for him to managed to climb the social ladder with it. If this wasnʼt another world that allowed polygamy, thereʼs no way this could happen, right?

And yet, in this world, the gods who hold the most special position were all female. Logically speaking, it shouldnʼt have been strange for this world to have become a female dominated society. However, not only that particular result didnʼt happen, it instead ended up shifting the other way into a setting where multiple wives were allowed. Shien just couldnʼt understand how that managed to happen no matter how much he thought it over, so in the end, he just chalked it all up as ”the plot requires it”.

Either way though, Vivian had been rather annoyed recently.

Leon would constantly try to come into contact with her, and because of that, Eudrice would turn more and more hostile toward her. Vivian honestly didnʼt know just what to do.

At the moment, all Vivian could do was agree with Eudrice.

”Eudrice was indeed correct. She knows a lot of friends in the capital too. Her familyʼs magic item business is quite famous in the capital. Mr. Leon should be more accommodating to your lover.”

Then, without giving Leon the chance to reply, Vivian continued on.

”Itʼs getting late. I need to hurry up and find Sir Balon.”

With that, Leon knew that he could no longer keep on pestering her.

”Alright then.” Leon spoke with some regret and unwillingness, ”Then, if we have another chance, letʼs have a meal together.”

”Very well.” Vivian answered noncommittally as she mentally let out a sigh of relief.

”Good night Vivian.” Eudrice also relaxed and waved Vivian goodbye as if she couldnʼt wait for Vivian to leave.

Thus, Vivian turned about and got ready to leave.

”…!”

At that moment though, Vivian suddenly shook. Her gaze instantly turned to a certain direction with a serious look.

”Vivian?”

”What is is?”

When they saw how Vivian reaction, both Leon and Eudrice were startled.

Vivian didnʼt reply. She just kept staring in that direction. After some time, she finally let out a breath and retrieved the shield on her back.

”You two.” Vivian spoke very solemnly, ”Please donʼt take so much as a step away from me from now on.”

”Eh?” Leon and Eudrice couldnʼt quite react to that.

However, Vivian could no longer warn them any further.

Thatʼs because, two figures were speeding toward her from the direction she was facing. The thick scent of blood coming from their bodies told Vivian that the two approaching were not peaceful.

…

At the same time, Melika had already awoken inside Lumiaʼs tent.

After she learned that she had fainted out of embarrassment, Melika had kept her head down the whole lime as if she wished desperately for the ground to open up and swallow her.

Lumia didnʼt even knew just what had happened. She just comforted Melika as she constantly glanced to the side with an uncomfortable expression.

There, Shien scratched his face as he acted like he didnʼt know if he should leave or not.
