Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 418: Chapter 168: Manual Data Migration_2

This is a powerful psychic.

”Don’t be so cold,” Mr. Pintou said, grinning cheekily, ”I’ve brought something good this time.”

He stretched out his hand, and a black data spider formed in his palm. A surge of divinity unique to the Spider Goddess overflowed, and the sound of crawling arose. All the genetically modified spiders hiding in the dark were scared away by this aura.

”The Holy Seal that Ninth Sister lost!”

The 7th Spider Woman’s expression changed, and a flash of red light passed over her three pairs of red spider eyes. In the next moment, the data spider directly teleported into her palm.

”Little Seventh, your ability has improved again. It seems the resurrection of the Goddess is not far off.”

Seeing this scene, the two hackers exchanged a glance. Every Spider Woman possessed a unique ability, and this 7th Spider Woman was most skilled in the rare art of data migration.

What a pity, if this ability were given to a hacker, the power it could unleash would surely be a hundredfold.

”Hehe, don’t worry about the Holy City Organization handling things. When we say we’ll retrieve the Holy Seal, we’ll retrieve the Holy Seal.”

Mr. Pintou boasted cheekily.

The 7th Spider Woman gave the two a cold look and turned to leave.

There is a consensus among the upper echelons of the Deep Web Weavers that these hackers harbor ill intentions.

But to revive the Spider Goddess, they must rewrite the code.

Only religious code that meets the standards of this era can bring the Goddess back to life within the Cyber Space.

From a hacker’s perspective, this resurrection is essentially reconstructing an ancient virtual machine that relies on the ’Cyber Network’.

The two followed behind the 7th Spider Woman, walking until they reached the forbidden zone, where they were stopped.

Watching the receding figure of the 7th Spider Woman, Mr. Pintou shrugged:

”We wrote the code, we retrieved the systems’ fragments, yet they won’t let us play on the computers; isn’t that absurd?”

”Don’t underestimate the ancient virtual machine,” Nightmare’s hoarse voice sounded.

”The essence of religion is a virtual machine detached from hardware control, with the human brain as the interface, not a distributed server.”

”This also means that this mode of information processing is extremely radical and requires modification of the brain’s underlying structures.”

”And how do you know that when we were rewriting the religious code, our brain processing systems weren’t already modified?”

”No way,” Mr. Pintou said in surprise, ”Are you suggesting these codes also have viral properties?”

”Religious code forms an irresistible influence on the senses, like mind-altering substances. I’m just cautioning you not to be caught off guard.”

”After all, your slicing skills are most restrained by such methods.”

”True,” Mr. Pintou muttered to himself, suddenly looking suspiciously towards the other, saying, ”Since when did you start caring about people?”

”The ramblings of religious lunatics are like uncommented code, and they’re exactly like your code levels, maybe you’ve already been altered,” Nightmare coldly retorted.

”If you just went crazy, that would be one thing, but if you die, I’d have to continue writing in your pile of crappy code. I wouldn’t want to endure such suffering,” Nightmare said coldly.

”Damn, you actually look down on my coding skills, I’m mad!”

While the two were bickering, the 7th Spider Woman emerged from the forbidden zone again, her tone slightly softened: ”Gentlemen, the First Spider Woman is waiting for you.”

”Finally, we get to play on the computers, though I can’t say I’m too interested in these ancient toys.”

”Huh? Aren’t you going in?”

Looking at the motionless 7th Spider Woman, Mr. Pintou asked curiously.

”Inside are only the First Spider Woman and the previous generation Great Elder. I am not qualified to enter,” the 7th Spider Woman said coldly.

”Haha, so your permissions aren’t enough either.”

Mr. Pintou laughed oddly, swaggering in with Nightmare.

As for the 7th Spider Woman, she glanced deeply at the two and once again stepped into the darkness.

...

Each Deep Web Weaver has two nests, one in the network dimension and one in the real world.

However, with Lord Mechanic’s blockade of Cyber Space, turning the entire Nightless City network into a Local Area Network, the Deep Web Weaver has only one nest remaining.

Before the resurrection of the Spider Goddess, Lord Mechanic’s authority cannot be challenged.

As the spider silk was unraveled by the little spiders, the 7th Spider Woman arrived at her ’Silk Cave’.

This ’Silk Cave’ was rather simple, much like a lower-level employee’s dormitory.

It’s hard to imagine this being the residence of the leader of the Deep Web Weavers, the 7th Spider Woman.

But for the Deep Web Weavers, within the Cyber Network, they can absorb others’ sensory data, and in reality, they enter a state of genetic repair through the little spiders.

The pleasure from these two states completely disconnects them from worldly indulgences, entering a more advanced phase.

In a way, the Deep Web Weavers are also a group of shut-ins, albeit religious ones with pursuits.

...

The 7th Spider Woman lay on the bed, and soon, a ’hissing’ sound arose. Large numbers of palm-sized spiders crawled out from the ceiling, corners of the room, under the bed, crawling onto her body. They bit through her skin, sucking her blood and flesh, and within the skin, carried out extensive silk-spinning work.

The 7th Spider Woman’s face suddenly flushed; the sensation was both like being drunk and being exhilarated by a virtual machine.

The Spider Goddess, or rather, the ancient Spider Sect, was actually not an underground cult in the Empire but a sect of the Alliance. Compared to the Empire’s mechanical autocracy, the Alliance was looser. It was formed through an alliance of several ancient small countries, with lax grassroots governance. This type of sect was adept at taking advantage, networking with various influential figures in politics, and gradually expanded.

And the earliest Spider Sect is said to have been formed by several addicts, and the Spider Goddess was a high-purity anti-counterfeit emblem.

...

But soon, the 7th Spider Woman opened her eyes again, and these spiders scattered once more.

A hint of confusion flashed in the 7th Spider Woman’s eyes as she sat up. Her face and body were covered in countless small wounds, almost every part of her body had bite marks, many areas with the flesh turned outward, with blood oozing out, a particularly frightening sight.

She hadn’t entered the ’state of gene repair’ as usual.

Instead, she felt particularly uncomfortable.

She got out of bed and moved to a mirror. The woman in the mirror seemed harshly tormented, only those three pairs of spider eyes suspiciously inspecting various body parts.

Suddenly, the 7th Spider Woman’s expression froze. On the back of her hand, a black spider tattoo appeared.

Holy Seal!?

How could this be!!

She remembered clearly that she had personally handed the Holy Seal to the First Spider Woman.

However, at this moment, the Holy Seal was slowly expanding, covering her hand and extending to other parts of her body.

An eerie will extended from the Black Shadow.

’This, this—’

The 7th Spider Woman’s expression changed. Without thinking, she triggered her data migration ability, and the Black Shadow vanished in the next instant.

However, in the mirror, the silhouette of an unparalleled Shota appeared, smiling slightly at her.

’Religious code isn’t merely pure data; in fact, it’s much like a biological virus, human-transmitted.’

’The virus structure has been embedded into the brain’s deep structures, so it’s much easier to hack into than other programs, especially more effectively at higher levels.’

’Goodbye, Spider Miss.’

A moment later, the 7th Spider Woman slowly straightened up, revealing a signature smile of Gao.

”Not bad, data migration will certainly come in handy.”

”Damn, what’s with this body, have you also been mistreated by a rich lady?”

...

Meanwhile, a vast migration team sat in 3D-printed temporary trains, heading towards Nightless City along the old railway network.

If you consider Nightless City and the City of Crime as two data terminals, then with the migration of vast artificial data, a new data chain begins to form.

’Artificial data’ isn’t what’s important; what Mechanic truly seeks is the data processing system of the ’Sunless City.’
