Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 36: Chapter 30: Radiation Circle

With the decision of the War Center, the hunting war was almost launched on the same day.

”Die! Die! Damn you all!!”

On a dozen modified off-road vehicles, the ammunition chain of the machine guns hardly stopped rotating for a moment, and the barrels were fired red-hot.

On the opposite side, a small beast tide formed by Radiation Beasts fell like wheat being cut down, followed by intense explosions erupting from their bodies, causing secondary harm to their companions.

”Kill!!”

Another wave of Mechanical Hunters jumped off the trucks, all following a close-combat style, with arms transformed into large blades or chainsaws and thick steel plates embedded in their chests. These close-combat hunters had undergone one or two prosthetic body transformations, or as many as three, four, or even five or six times.

The extent of their mechanization made each of them resemble humanoid machines.

The chainsaws slashed into the metal skin of the Mechanical Bio-Beasts, steel fists viciously hitting the foreheads of beasts, once, twice, three times, until the opponent’s brains were knocked out, and then the palms peeled off the bionic skin, fingertips with electric drills violently inserted into the vital parts of Radiation Beasts, accompanied by the spray of machine-fluid blood, forcefully extracting the radiation source.

”Hunters are the strongest!” the man roared fiercely, tearing off half a heart.

”Brothers, watch as I send you a plane!”

A captain standing on the truck’s hood held a walkie-talkie, laughing heartily.

The next moment, two bombers from the factory appeared from the clouds, diving into the battlefield, their bellies open, dozens of missiles tracked targets, followed closely by tons of explosives. Flames three stories high created violent blasts of wind, leaving vast blank areas in the beast swarms’ wake.

”Radiation Beasts are nothing more than this!”

”Captain, should we go up or not?”

Members of the Fire Thief Squad quickly looked at their captain. In terms of firepower, they were ten times stronger than others.

”What’s the rush? Going up now, they’re just dead meat,” unexpectedly, the usually irritable and quick-tempered Wilson rejected the proposal.

Behind him were nearly a hundred members wearing exoskeletons, towering in stature and with vicious looks.

In the middle were three heavy tanks, the barrels of which cast massive shadows under the light.

”But captain, these ordinary beasts are perfect material for earning points. It’s a pity to miss out!”

Wilson, furious, kicked the speaking team member off the vehicle.

”Are you the captain, or am I? What the hell do you know!”

Southern Defense Line

The Mechanician Squad was methodically debugging the machines, as one automated weapon after another was being air-dropped to designated firepower points by drones.

Their weapons were specific composite weapons, being adjusted, installed, and concealed on-site by hundreds of small robots.

In the Mechanician Squad, all battles were carried out by automated machines, and the team members were merely operators of these machines.

A communication station

The Mechanic Huang Wen was continuously tapping the keyboard.

His spider-like hand moved so fast it was invisible to the naked eye.

On his spider hand, each joint ’button’ was a nerve enhancement node, an enhancement technology from before the war, and a mandatory modification for military logistics staff.

On the virtual screen, a series of histograms flashed continuously, each red column representing the radiation value of a beast swarm, now rising rapidly.

Meanwhile, the green column representing defense capability was maintaining an unstable trend.

”Ask the team members to verify the data sheets again; several key data points are incorrect.”

Huang Wen remained calm, as if he were playing a strategy game.

Western Front

Blood Ore Hills

On a hill, a dozen Gray-Eyed remained silent.

In their eyes, the battlefield appeared differently; various levels of radiation transformed into differently colored tidal currents, now converging into an ocean with the battle, surging over.

”Original sin approaches, Turing God protect us!”

Gray-Eyed Adrian, besides being a Mechanical Hunter, was also a Metal Preacher of the Turing Sect. His eyes, the ’Eyes of Fire,’ could glimpse true knowledge from the electric grid network and see the twisted demons in radiation ecology.

Eastern Front

Matsushima Keiko’s pair of little short legs were bouncing continuously, the knife holder repeatedly rubbing against the mechanical blade handle, making ’creak’ sounds.

”Daisila, I want to—”

”No.”

”I’ll just chop one, secretly, I promise not to be discovered.”

”No.”

”Daisila~~”

Seeing Matsushima Keiko clutching her sleeve and calling out aggrievedly, Daisila sighed.

”Keiko, do you know what’s most terrifying about Radiation Beasts?”

”It’s the environment, the radiation environment where the beast swarm resides. In this environment, all electronic devices will fail, while the beasts thrive, they can even monitor us through a falling leaf or a tree stem.”

Keiko’s eyes lit up, she opened her mouth.

Before Keiko could speak, Daisila continued:

”I know what you want to say. Now that the beasts have left their nests, it’s their weakest moment. But you must understand one thing, the Radiation Circle is not innate; it is born from the Radiation Beasts living in groups.”

”Daisila, you mean they are nurturing a new Radiation Field?” Matsushima Keiko said dumbfoundedly.

”Yes, the battle will only accelerate the formation of the Radiation Field.”

Matsushima Keiko understood.

”So what do we do now?”

”Wait,” Daisila said calmly, ”The energy of the beasts is not infinite either. The moment the Radiation Ecology is formed will be the time when their energy is at its weakest, that is when we act.

The war lasted for a day and a night.

There were constantly Mechanical Hunters returning injured and resting, and some Hunters just quickly swapped on a prosthetic body and set off again.

As a Mechanical Transformer, although endurance is not as good as machines, it is several times better than ordinary people.

And at some unknown time, a giant electronic screen appeared at the gate of Petrol Town.

The Battlefield Recorder would automatically record and broadcast the exciting scenes of the hunt, making those who watched it bloodthirsty.

And at the center of the screen was a leaderboard.

The Hunting Squad ranked first killed two hundred E-level beasts on the first day alone, truly fierce.

”Is it the Plunderer Squad? They’ve been really impressive lately.”

”Naturally, their squad is full of Mechanical Transformers.”

”And what about those old teams like Fire Grass, Gray-Eyed, and Crawler, what are they doing?”

”Eliminated, today’s Plunderer is what they used to be a few years ago. Do you remember the old teams before them?”

”The bets are open, the bets are open!”

”Will the old teams come from behind? Or will Plunderer continue to stay on top as a dark horse?”

Apart from those who knew they stood no chance and indulged in betting, those who cared were more interested in the direction of these old squads.

Fire Thief, Mechanician, Crawler, Gray-Eyed, Fire Grass.

What are these old teams doing now?

”The last time I was hunting, it seemed like I saw Crawler.”

”Oh? What were they doing?” another person perked up.

”When I left, Crawler was being surrounded by the beast horde, things didn’t look good,” that person hesitated for a moment before speaking.

”Impossible, they must have another plan, holding back something big.”

Indeed, they were holding back something big, and by evening, a message came.

The entire Crawler team was trapped by the beast horde and wiped out.

”Crawler is dead!?”

”Is this for real, are the beast hordes that terrifying?”

”Do you guys also feel that the more beasts you kill, the harder it gets to fight?”

”Damn, do you feel that too? The skin that used to be pierced by a single bullet, now can’t be penetrated anymore.”

First day, second day, third day.

The Plunderer Squad remained firmly in the lead, the prey falling to them numbered close to 500, and some formidable newcomers were also emerging.

Electric Saw Killer, Octopus Monster, Biochemical Demon, Hound Hunter, Bomber...

The old teams still haven’t made a move.

In the data center of the Military Supply Warehouse, a group of battlefield analysts was conducting a battle analysis, the scene was very lively.

”The Plunderer Squad has backing; the D73 Miniature Missile, fully-covered exoskeleton armor, and EMP bombs they use are weapons for dealing with the Rebel Army.”

”The rate at which the beast horde is nurturing the Radiation Field is faster than we predicted.”

”As of today at twelve o’clock, the F-level and E-level Radiation Fields have been nurtured.”

”The battle intensity will soon escalate, we need to increase logistical support.”

”How about consuming another wave of Mechanical Hunters?”

”Not for now, with the old teams not making a move, such consumption is meaningless.”

Manager Zhou was tapping the table, the situation was a bit beyond his expectations.

The promises he made were so grand, yet these old hands didn’t take the bait?

Sure enough, after dealing with robots for so long, his eloquence had deteriorated.

”What about the Plunderer Squad, have they reached the supply point? A new batch of weapons is waiting for them to receive.”

”They’ve arrived,” one of the operators replied, his expression changing as he excitedly said, ”They reported to us that they have a hunting plan, this plan is to hunt a D-level Radiation Beast tribe!”
