Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 24: Chapter 18: Reaper Clan

The original owner of Gao Gong’s body managed to hunt down the highest-level monster, which was a C-level Reaper.

This achievement once caused quite a stir in the circle.

But what the Cable Tribe is facing is a small Reaper Clan.

This Reaper Clan consists of thirteen Reapers, among which the leaders are two adult Reapers. It looks like one male and one female, the male has tendrils on its head while the female does not.

These two adult Reapers are undoubtedly C-level, and among the juveniles, with their armor showing obvious insect shell characteristics, most are D-level.

The remaining three are as tall as little girls, haven’t even fully grown their emblematic reaping scythes, and are E-level.

’Two C-levels, eight D-levels, three E-levels, no wonder the Cable Tribe suffered heavy losses.’

Gao Gong’s expression became serious. The original owner laid down for a month after taking out one C-level Reaper — and even then, luck played a significant part.

Now having to deal with a nest of these things, he’s not even in peak condition.

Retreating... is not an option. Perhaps influenced by the original owner’s ’Double Flower Red Staff’ temperament, he relished the feeling of personally slaying monsters.

But charging in immediately is also out of the question. He’s not related to this group in any way, helping them within his means is fine, but the current situation clearly requires risking his life.

Unless the Cable Tribe can stall the two adult Reapers and provide some level of support after he handles the other Reapers, otherwise he can only take potshots and do some work hiding in the grass.

’It’s not that I don’t want to save you, it’s just that we’re all NPCs; you die and can’t resurrect, I die and can’t refresh.’

A Metal Sparrow seemingly sensed something and suddenly flew away from the main group, landing on the tree where Gao Gong was, speaking in human language.

”Hunter friend in the tree, if you can help us, you will be our eternal friend of the Cable Tribe.”

Gao Gong replied, ”I don’t need so many friends; what I need more are benefit partners. I can act, but the key is, what can you offer me?”

Even at this critical juncture, the person controlling the sparrow’s voice remained calm, even carrying a hint of clear, springlike soothing.

”Our tribe can help you tame three Small Mechanical Bio-Beasts.”

”Apparently, three beasts can exchange for dozens of lives in your tribe; your people are really worthless.” Gao Gong retorted with sarcasm.

”Five!”

Gao Gong remained silent, and shortly after, an unexpected change occurred in the battle situation. The hulking brute at the forefront suddenly ran out of stamina, stumbled with a step, and the next moment, three scythes pierced into his body, blood spurted, and he fell backward, his life uncertain.

It was clear that this brute was an important member of the Cable Tribe; his fall caused the morale of the others to plummet, and the battle line immediately became dangerous.

”What do you need?” That person’s voice finally carried a hint of urgency.

”Three conditions, first, I need your technology to control the Mechanical Bio-Beast. Second, I need methods to control the two adult Reapers. Third, when I make my move, I need you to ensure that those two adult Reapers won’t interfere with me.”

”I can personally promise you the first condition, the second condition is beyond my ability, as for the third, I can only say, I’ll try my best.”

”Alright.”

Gao Gong straightforwardly agreed, no particular reason, the mission was triggered.

[Mission: Cable Tribe’s Plea for Help]

Difficulty: Difficult+

Mission Brief: A scientific expedition team of the Cable Tribe has been attacked by a Reaper Clan. Rescue them from the razor-sharp clutches.

Mission Objective: Ensure the survival count of the Cable Tribe is above 10 people; for every additional survivor, experience +100, mission evaluation increases.

Mission Reward: Experience +6500 Cable Tribe Favorability +500 Specialization Points +1

Extra Reward: Mechanical Puzzle Fragment[1/5]*1

Gao Gong glanced at the mission rewards and casually said, ”By the way, may I know how to address you?”

”My surname is Han, everyone calls me Professor Han.”

The steel rope tightened, and under Huang Yuanli’s anxious gaze, a silhouette descended from the tree.

”No more talking, just return to the vehicle and wait for my signal. If I manage to save them, bring down some medical supplies from the car.”

Gao Gong paused, ”If they can’t be saved, make sure you and I can escape.”

Huang Yuanli took a deep breath and nodded forcefully.

In the forest, Gao Gong ran swiftly, selecting suitable sniper locations while devising some traps.

He invested all his remaining experience into ’Precise Shooting’.

[You have upgraded Precise Shooting to lv6]

[You have upgraded Precise Shooting to lv7]

[You have upgraded Precise Shooting to lv8]

Precise Shooting lv8 (Advanced): As an excellent firearm user, years of battle experience have given you excellent firearm sense—Weapon damage +15%, Recoil -9%, Critical Strike Rate +8%

Crouched on a highland, Gao Gong could distinctly feel a faint connection with his sniper rifle; he didn’t know if this was the legendary firearm sense, and when he pulled the trigger, he had a very strong premonition.

The next shot will hit!

An E-level Reaper, just about to pounce out, suddenly stiffened. At the same time, its head vanished, leaving behind a bloody neck.

[You have killed a Juvenile Reaper, experience +80]

’Next time I go back, I have to exchange some special bullets in the military supply warehouse. Ordinary sniper bullets can no longer kill D-level beasts with one shot.’

Gao Gong pulled the bolt, and a series of data flashed across his right eye once more.

The next moment, another young Reaper was blown up, its upper body destroyed.

Better to cut off one finger than to hurt ten.

The Reapers immediately reacted, and the tentacles of some maturing Reapers, which are D-level monsters, emitted a ’zi zi zi’ sound, like tuning frequency noise.

The next moment, four Reapers lunged at Gao Gong simultaneously.

’I must change the skin as soon as I go back, or there’s no way I’ll make it through!’

’The Reapers have actually mastered wireless communication, which is harder than I thought.’

If it were just normal electronic signal sensing, these four monsters wouldn’t coordinate so well.

Without a moment’s hesitation, Gao Gong immediately abandoned the sniper rifle, felt his waist, lit it with fire, and in the next moment, a large amount of white smoke was generated from burning water tobacco leaves.

In just three seconds, a sudden wind blew up, and a fierce slash cut through the smoke.

An adult Reaper’s slash can reach one Mach; although a D-level Reaper hasn’t reached its peak, it has a ’cutting iron’ standard.

The sound of footsteps rang out, the Reaper’s reaction reached the extreme, its steel paw stomped on the ground violently, cross-shaped blade lights shattered the mist, accurately slicing a human-headed dog into four parts.

However, the next moment, a crimson light shadow also slashed out from the mist at a speed so fast, it even made it think of its father before dying.

The ’scythe version Ironblood Warrior’ in front of him was directly slashed and exploded in the head, almost at the same time, the mist exploded in all directions, white vapor shot like long arrows, like a flying device breaking the sound barrier with a burst sound.

[You dealt 1243 damage to the maturing Reaper]

[You have killed a maturing Reaper, Experience +480]

Gao Gong stood at the center of the sound burst, his face crimson, holding a nearly two-meter-long crimson greatsword in one hand, while the other hand clutched a very mechanized knife sheath.

Unlike the motionless long knife, the knife sheath was buzzing, and vibrating at the same high frequency were the micro motors in Gao Gong’s four bionic joints.

After the Iaijutsu, Gao Gong glanced at the three monsters, his body bent forward, and his left thumb pressed against the back of the blade, slowly sheathing the blade little by little into the strange sheath.

The other three Reapers obviously hesitated for a moment, seemingly not expecting the opponent to stay in place without fleeing.

Even more daring, this weak human in front of them didn’t retreat but instead attacked them.

The Reapers became excited; their bodies enclosed in thick iron armor, presenting no flaws, the least afraid of close combat with humans.

On its back waist, seven or eight blades opened up, revealing thumb-thick jets, like the exhaust pipes of a sports car, spurting out massive flames at once.

This made its killing speed incredibly fast.

Gao Gong barely managed to turn his neck when a biological scythe brutally struck his scapula.

The collision of the biological scythe with the titanium alloy bones resulted in the blade penetrating half a centimeter.

[You lost 17 points of life]

Gao Gong’s front foot was forcibly cut into the mud.

The micro motor in the joint buzzed loudly.

The next moment, Gao Gong raised his head, revealing a bloodshot left eye and a glowing right eye, along with his veiny hand gripping the knife.

The crimson blade light pierced the sky, this time, splitting the entire body of the enemy, including the biological scythe, into two, with Red Unicorn.

The sound burst erupted again.

Gao Gong threw down the sheath, gripping the handle with both hands, and with a backhand swing, decapitated the opponent.

Facing the remaining two D-level Reapers, Gao Gong grinned, without the slightest hesitation, brandishing the sword as he charged.

Name: Electromagnetic Exciter

Category: Mechanical Knife Sheath

Quality: Fine-

Weight: 2.1kg

Operating Mode: Manual Switch

Auxiliary Module: Electromagnetic Storm

Note: It’s a high-tech sheath that makes weapons incredibly dangerous.

Electromagnetic Storm: An ultra-stimulating sheath created in unison by Magnetic Resistance Stone and Electromagnetic Converter, drawing speed +500%, cooldown time: 30 seconds.

Like Energy Ore, Magnetic Resistance Stone is a byproduct of energy radiation and is even rarer than Energy Ore. The military supply warehouse has only a few materials, and once released, they were immediately swept away by Gao Gong.

Its greatest trait is the ability to interchange between gravity and repulsion.

For kinetic energy weapons like firearms, this thing isn’t very useful; fast and slow bullets don’t make much difference.

But if used on melee weapons, especially when the Electromagnetic Converter repeatedly compresses the repulsion, once Red Unicorn is unsheathed, it inflicts a terrifying amount of damage.

Facing four D-level Mechanical Bio-Beasts, especially Reapers with strong close combat abilities, Gao Gong was no match with two fists against four hands.

But with only two left, they became much easier to handle.
