One-Eyed Monster

Igor and Kadi were quite satisfied with the place Coban Kangen found. Though it wasn’t as lively as a tavern, this place had its own characteristic that was completely different from that of a tavern: absolute tranquility.

Coban Kangen had found a church.

At nighttime, there wouldn’t be anyone in the church. The priest would return home to pray, at most leaving some choir members for night watch.

However, this particular night, even the choir members were not present, leaving only a divine statue behind.

”Why is there no one living here, yet there are lights left on?” Kadi’s curiosity began to surface.

The question wasn’t difficult to answer. Kadi didn’t understand because he was always detached from this world.

”These lights are left for the deities, although the deities don’t need these candles,” Igor explained, not being a devout believer himself, he wasn’t too concerned about it.

”Deities, where exactly are they?” Kadi was fascinated by the question.

”They might be in people’s hearts,” Igor continued to explain. He hadn’t studied this in depth, but he had debated it seriously with people before.

”Everyone has their own faith, and these beliefs guide people through various hardships. With such faith, people feel better and face setbacks and difficulties more calmly.”

”Why do they face them more calmly?” Kadi liked to get to the bottom of things.

”Because these deities make them feel that they can overcome hardships, and that there is a reason for their suffering!”

”What makes them believe? What reason would make people believe in these things?” Kadi persisted.

”Because the road must continue forward. When despair becomes overwhelming, the path ahead becomes impassable. At that moment, a kind of solace allows you to pause, and during this pause, you realize that despair is actually insignificant, reigniting the confidence to move on.”

Igor spoke in detail, and Kadi nodded repeatedly.

”It’s somewhat like us right now, knowing nothing about what lies ahead. We can only pause here to make adjustments, waiting for something to reignite our motivation to continue.”

Although the analogy was a bit off, it resonated with Igor’s previous explanation.

Even though Kadi forced the analogy, he managed to connect the two unrelated ideas.

Igor couldn’t help but admire this aspect of Kadi.

Currently, they knew nothing about the future.

Igor looked at Coban Kangen and found that the calmest person was Coban, who had fallen asleep early, lying in the church’s pews, displaying no reaction except snoring.

Igor had to ponder alone. The others were asleep, while he felt completely awake.

He carefully organized the information he had at hand.

Behind all the events were the Soul Devourers, these Soul Devourers came from another world, the Spirit World. Now, the Soul Devourers have fully invaded, their unconscious infiltration leaving a feeling of helplessness.

What these Soul Devourers want is mostly to continue existing by devouring, allowing them to perpetuate themselves.

This was the direction Igor had come to know.

There were many parts of Igor’s speculation and unknown areas, but he chose not to think about them, because once he started, it would be difficult to stop...

Better to think about what to do next.

Making a plan was much better than having no plan at all.

Igor felt that the next step was to meet the Kangen Family.

To engage in in-depth exchanges with the Kangen Family, especially regarding matters related to the Soul Guardian, must be clarified.

Even though Igor wasn’t sure whether the Kangen Family would agree, he had to try.

The Kangen Family mostly consisted of wizards, who had divination abilities. Although this ability shared some commonality with the scholars’ deduction, it was still slightly different in essence.

One focuses on past occurrences, while the other seeks the patterns of future development.

If possible, Igor hoped Kadi could interact more with the wizard’s divination skills.

Hope this could be realized...

Igor slowly made the plans, believing these were necessary for him.

However, as Igor was planning in the flickering candlelight, a rustling sound came from outside the church.

Something was happening, Igor immediately became alert.

But Igor didn’t act immediately; he knew the people outside must be after them.

Igor immediately reminded Kadi beside him. Now only he and Kadi were awake, as he didn’t intend to wake the sleeping Coban Kangen.

Kadi also noticed the unusual situation outside, choosing not to act immediately either. After all, the situation outside was unclear, he needed to familiarize himself with the enemy’s situation. He couldn’t act impulsively.

Waiting until the enemy believed they were completely in control, then taking retaliatory action would definitely catch them off guard.

This was the reason Igor and Kadi were holding back.

Igor was quite angry now, right when he was making plans, these people came sneaking around, clearly trying to make things difficult for him!

So later, he must give them a good beating!

Igor and Kadi silently awaited.

The waiting time was long.

This long wait tormented Igor and Kadi, but the sound outside continued rustling, without revealing a presence.

This left Igor and Kadi unsure about the enemy’s scale.

Just as a bit of impatience arose in Igor and Kadi’s hearts, suddenly, all the candles behind them went out with a swoosh.

Not good, Igor shouted inwardly, immediately activating his spirit power to unfold his night vision eyes. This skill was taught to them by Jemma while they were on Guru Mountain.

Could the enemy be suited for fighting in darkness? After activating his night vision, Igor was able to see the surroundings more clearly.

Not much had changed, the candle blackout didn’t lead to more enemies appearing...

This seemed not to be a good thing; the absence of the enemy meant they hadn’t struck yet!

Kadi and Igor stood back-to-back, uncertain of the enemy’s numbers. They only sensed through their spirit power that there weren’t few of them, and their abilities weren’t low.

Could it be those followers?

Igor at this moment really wanted to discuss once more with Coban Kangen about who exactly was tailing them.

However, when he tried to wake Coban Kangen, he found Coban Kangen already being carried away on a shoulder by a shadow moving quickly towards the door!

Not good, the target of these people was Coban Kangen!

Only then did Igor and Kadi realize the opponent’s target!

Definitely cannot let them succeed!
