One-Eyed Monster

Igor looked dazedly at Lord Popovich.

”Help me light this up!” After saying this, Lord Popovich freed one hand and pulled out a small object from his pocket. This small object resembled a bird, but it was indeed quite small for a bird.

”What is this?” Igor asked curiously.

”This is a mini firework. Light it and throw it into the sky, the higher the better!”

”Okay!” As soon as Igor heard it was a firework, he agreed without a second thought.

Igor didn’t need tools like firestones to ignite it because he could summon lightning. With a crackle, the bird-shaped firework was lit, and Igor mustered all his strength to throw it into the sky. Like Kadi, he eagerly watched the sky.

A fizzing sound was heard as the bird-shaped firework zoomed straight into the night sky and burst with a clear sound, turning into colorless shimmering lights.

Coo-coo, coo-coo...

Instantly, accompanied by the colorful lights in the night sky, the sound of cuckoo birds spread far and wide.

The sound was loud and prolonged as if the entire city of Bistal could hear it.

Even if the sound wasn’t heard, the colorful pattern could capture people’s attention.

This phenomenon lasted for quite a while. Igor never expected that this small firework would last so long.

”This is a firework re-engineered by alchemists and wizards, used only under special circumstances.” While driving, Popovich explained to Igor and the others.

”When the sound of the cuckoo, accompanied by colorful fireworks, lingers in the night sky of Bistal, it signals that our city is on highest alert!”

”At this moment, everyone must be ready to fight!”

Hearing this, Igor was surprised. ”Do even the unarmed residents have to join the fight?”

”They will enter a state of alert under the administrative office’s arrangements. If necessary, they will also participate in the fight!”

”Uh...” Igor couldn’t imagine Bistal being like this.

”But now, what danger is there that requires such vigilance?” Kadi asked.

”The enemy has infiltrated unnoticed, which is very serious!” Lord Popovich explained.

Hearing this explanation, Igor and Kadi both fell silent. Indeed, the enemy was hidden; such an invasion was truly troublesome.

The fireworks only lasted a little while in the sky, but at this moment, the entire city of Bistal became busy.

Lord Grim, the governor of Bistal, immediately got off his carriage upon returning home. He lingered on the street for a moment before rushing to the administrative office, ordering information to be cascaded down. He didn’t need to worry about the streets; those covert operatives would complete their tasks, whether evacuating or protecting the populace.

The Court of Guards and League Guards were on high alert, with information continuously being relayed. Wherever a conflict arose, someone would immediately go to assist...

What he, the governor, needed to do was ensure the normal operation of the administrative office.

He needed to discuss with Lord Administrator and other politicians a plan to protect the Capital Treasury, whether to transfer it or hide it; a plan must be in place...

Bistal had already entered a state of high alert. In the coming period, significant events were likely to occur one after another, and how to guard the entire city would be an important challenge for Bistal.

The ancient families would lay aside their differences and unite.

Because, Bistal would not tolerate invaders running amok!

The message conveyed by Popovich’s firework was already detailed; every defender of Bistal understood the code.

Only when formidable invaders arrive does Lord Popovich release such a signal.

The covert operatives had mobilized. They were the roots of Bistal, always hidden beneath the soil. The existence of this organization had always been a mystery. These people wouldn’t appear in the public eye; they could be nobodies, they could be villains, but all external features they exhibited were their façades. Their true selves were those who abandoned their identities to protect their homeland.

Though they couldn’t be themselves, they made it so that more people in Bistal could live happily.

These covert operatives might come from ancient families, or they might be from orphanages, but they made their choice, dedicating everything to the duty of protecting the city.

Igor was astonished to see what was happening in front of him. The once-silent city suddenly came alive, with all sorts of people running on the streets, and streetlights flickering on and off. Those in dreamland were awakened and informed of the impending danger, and everyone was to be ready!

Popovich’s carriage was heading straight for the Brass Hotel, with many Court of Guard squads on the way there...

Igor, on the carriage, could feel that these were the Court of Guards elites, seemingly all team captains.

”Lord Popovich, you can’t go that way!”

A fast horse galloped alongside, shouting at the carriage side.

This was Coban Kangen, the deputy leader of the Administrative League Guards.

”What’s happening there? Why can’t I go!” Popovich asked; he simply wanted to confirm the situation there.

”There’s a confrontation; Captain Bruto and Court Chief Est are in a standoff with the opponent!”

”With them there, I have nothing to fear!” Popovich accelerated the carriage again...

”Lord, intelligence shows we are at a disadvantage, constantly on the defensive, while the opponent hasn’t shown themselves!”

”Ha, this is interesting!” Kadi couldn’t contain his excitement upon hearing this.

Igor furrowed his brow!

”Lord, your safety concerns the entire imperial capital, let us escort you back to the administrative office. The governors need your counsel too!”

”I want to see with my own eyes what this invader is like!” Popovich disregarded the advice and continued to accelerate.

”Sir...” Seeing the futile persuasion, Coban Kangen gave up, ”You two, come with me, no matter what, Lord Popovich must not be harmed!”

Coban Kangen commanded two League Guards experts to give chase with all their might.

The entire Bistal was now in a state of complete alert; no one knew exactly what had happened, but they all knew danger was closing in, and they must be ready to fight at all times.

And at the entrance of the Brass Hotel, Est and Bruto were already battered and bruised. The unseen enemy launched charge after charge, yet could not breach the defense formed by these two Fighters.
