One-Eyed Monster

Coban Kangen never expected such a thing to happen.

The three of them now held their horses, heads drooped, slowly walking along Bayes Avenue.

This street was the territory of various families and organizations, where inns and taverns were seldom seen. Igor thought that this situation might end with them spending the night on the street.

Precisely where did things go wrong, causing Lord Popovich’s letter to never reach the Kangen family?

This certainly wasn’t a coincidence; something must have happened here.

The Mail Bird itself does not encounter accidents.

The stability of this system has been proven, and it won’t be easily broken.

Coban Kangen and Igor were pondering various possibilities.

They believed the issue must be with the Mail Bird.

There was no chance of error in any other links. No matter what kind of organization, they could not stop them from reaching Xinbal. This had been proven on the road, as all those trackers returned disappointed.

Of course, these trackers provided Igor and the others with a warning. After all, if these people could track them, then these guys could also track their Mail Bird.

As long as they find ways to interfere with their Mail Bird, they could hinder their plans. This is the only reasonable explanation.

The Mail Bird can’t be destroyed, that’s beyond doubt, but interference, that’s something that could happen.

Igor and Coban Kangen finally focused the problem on this point.

The most straightforward organization able to interfere with the Mail Bird is the Alchemy Workshop.

If this guess is correct, then those trackers on the steam car, and those encountered after arriving in Xinbal, all have reasonable explanations.

Only the Alchemy Workshop has the capability to launch such a large-scale tracking operation.

The Alchemy Workshop is also on Bayes Avenue; everyone can see the building of this organization.

Igor and the others could now go there and ask for clarification.

However, doing so would be unwise.

With the capabilities of the Alchemy Workshop, they’re definitely able to capture them here and take them back, without anyone stopping them. After all, Igor and Kadi are outsiders, strangers.

However, the Alchemy Workshop hasn’t done that, which surely has a special reason.

Of course, this is based on the Alchemy Workshop being the mastermind!

”What should we do now, should we wait like before?” Kadi asked, clearly perplexed by the situation, but not having a reasonable method to avoid this doubt, he could only vent with these words.

”Waiting may not be a bad idea.” Igor scratched his head; he had relied on waiting to get through difficulties before, so he wasn’t opposed to waiting. He was just worried about where to stay at night.

”Waiting is definitely needed.” Coban Kangen honestly said, ”Lord Popovich’s new letter will certainly reach the Kangen family. By then, we can directly address the main topic, but for now, we can only maintain the status quo and identify the mastermind behind this.”

Although they suspected the Alchemy Workshop, none of them were sure. Caution must be maintained, especially in a place like Xinbal.

”So, we cannot do anything but wait now, right?” Kadi confirmed once more what they should do next.

”I’m afraid so.” Igor answered somewhat awkwardly.

”Alright, as you said, we have plenty of time; perhaps time is all we have left.” Kadi remarked again.

Anyone would inevitably feel weary of such a thing, especially since they had waited for so long before, and now have to wait again, which truly demanded their patience.

”Don’t worry, things will naturally resolve in the end!” Igor comforted the somewhat impatient Kadi.

The three of them still wandered aimlessly down Bayes Avenue, but thankfully Coban Kangen, who had lived on Bayes Avenue for quite a long time, wouldn’t let Igor and Kadi sleep on the streets.

Meanwhile, behind them, within the simple great door of the Kangen family, Patrick was slowly stepping towards the deeper part of the courtyard.

There lived the old patriarch, though he had already surrendered the patriarch’s position, the Kangen family still reported all big and small matters to him by habit.

Knock, knock, knock. Patrick knocked on the door of the small house deep in the courtyard.

”Come in!” A rich voice emerged from inside the small house, and from this voice, it was clear the owner was not a young person.

”Patriarch sir!” Patrick opened the door and entered, bowing to the elder seated cross-legged. It was apparent that this head housekeeper of the Kangen family held great respect for the elder.

”I’ve told you many times, I’m no longer the patriarch, don’t call me that anymore, Will is capable of managing the family affairs.” The elder softly said, clearly dissatisfied with Patrick’s address.

”Yes, I will pay attention in the future, and never make such a mistake again.” Patrick seemed to swear.

”The current era is handed to your young generation. We have grown old, unable to handle everything, only giving you opinions. Ultimately, your decisions matter.” The elder continued to speak profoundly, oblivious to Patrick’s oath.

”Understood!”

”Did they arrive?”

”Yes.”

”Oh, then that’s good. What’s destined to come will come, what needs reform will reform eventually!” The elder gently said.

”As per your suggestion, we did not let them come directly.” Patrick said respectfully.

”The letter from Lord Popovich that I showed you, the decision you made, I won’t intervene, young people need trials, so do you.”

”Yes, Will, the Young Family Leader firmly believes in this, and his decision coincided with the elder’s suggestion.”

”I know this. I’m just curious, what did you come for this time?”

”Indeed, nothing escapes the elder, I’ve come for another matter this time.”

”What matter, if not important, I’ll continue my meditation.”

Patrick slowly moved to the front of the elder, bending his body, covering his mouth with his hand, whispering in the elder’s ear: ”The child brought along two youngsters, familiar with Guru Mountain, and one of them is from Guru Mountain, familiar with Xiso.”

The elder, upon hearing this, opened his eyes slowly, sighing deeply because mentioning Xiso stirred thousands of sentiments within him.

”Is this all a coincidence, or is it that the Kangen family is destined to endure an ordeal?”

”Lord Popovich’s letter seems to entrust all of Bistal City to these two youths. Shouldn’t we the Kangen family...”

”It is a matter that requires prudence, better to wait until they pass this trial.”

”Yes!”

”It seems us old folks need to exert our remaining strength; it looks like my meditation will be postponed.” The elder slowly stood up from the cushion, with the colorful wizard robe on him, radiating dazzling light.
