Merging with Demon Spirits

Chapter 139: Chapter 123: Shadow Puppet

”Are you really planning to fight to the bitter end?”

Facing Lin Feng’s threat, Yun Lin raised her Crystal Sword to her chest, her tone somewhat dark as she asked. Her usually delicate, pretty face held slightly arched brows, revealing a trace of determination and resolve.

As a girl, her beautiful looks and alluring figure certainly brought her advantages, which she was adept at leveraging, but Yun Lin’s swift rise to fame among freshmen wasn’t based on that alone.

Her talent and strength were no weaker than anyone else’s.

The throne challenge was of obvious importance for her plan to form a team.

With fame, she could quickly recruit new students.

And the special privileges awarded to the top three in the Throne Challenge would directly affect her future cultivation speed.

Daring to sit on the third throne first, Yun Lin was naturally confident and bold; she wasn’t afraid of rivals, nor would she be easily scared off.

”Get up, or be eliminated!”

Lin Feng still spoke calmly, not even a tremor in his voice.

He was unfazed by talk of a fight to the bitter end.

With their advantage in strength, as long as the fish didn’t want to die first, the net wouldn’t break.

”Is he trying to scare me off? Win without a fight?”

”There’s just four of them — Dong Yunnan is a Therapist, so her combat power must be weak; that buzz-cut kid, don’t know what Demon Spirit he refined, but he’s clearly not a Martial Artist! Sure, it’s three against four, but they don’t actually have much of an advantage. Lin Feng and Yun Kai both qualify for the top ten, there’s no way they’d be afraid to go all out!”

Thinking this through, Yun Lin’s confidence steadied, silver light gathering in her eyes and gradually forming a triangular pupil as her appearance began to change.

A silver diamond-shaped scale appeared on her pale forehead, her slender figure grew ever more supple, her flexible, boneless waist swaying with a hint of temptation. Her long legs had already transformed into a serpentine tail, sheathed in purplish-black scales, swishing slightly, making one’s mind fuzz for a moment.

”Ninth Grade Silver Nether Serpent.”

Lin Feng instantly recognized Yun Lin’s refined Demon Spirit.

The Silver Nether Serpent, just like the Enchanting Butterfly that Ya Ge had refined before, also belonged to the Spirit Series Demon Spirits.

With her outstanding appearance and a Spirit Series Demon Spirit—plus the unique allure of the Snake Series—it was no wonder so many boys hovered around this girl, willing to follow her to the end.

”Lin Feng, don’t force me. With your and Yun Kai’s strength, you both could win first or second. Why fight me for third?”

Yun Lin spoke calmly. Silver light flickered in her triangular pupils, and at the same time, the Crystal Sword in her hand shone with a silvery glow, the two playing off one another, intensifying that unnerving sense.

”A Spiritual Artifact? One that assists with Spiritual Attacks?”

Lin Feng’s gaze lingered on the Crystal Sword.

Compared to ordinary weapons, the greatest strength of a Spiritual Artifact was that it could sense and transmit Heaven and Earth Spiritual Power, making them extremely valuable—even the lowest-level Spiritual Artifact cost tens of millions of New Coin and was hard to come by.

And a Spiritual Artifact usable by a First Grade Martial Artist was even rarer, virtually impossible to buy on the market.

As expected of a scion of a great family—a Spiritual Artifact at her fingertips.

Lin Feng wasted no words, step by step pressing in on Yun Lin.

Behind him, seeing Yun Lin refusing to give ground, Yun Kai suddenly let out a roar.

As his roar rang out, Yun Kai’s body blazed with dazzling golden light.

With a series of crackling snaps, his height of one meter ninety-three shot past two meters one; his muscles, already granite-like, swelled even larger, as if forged of gold itself. Dark-gold patterns traversed his entire body like veins, circulating across his skin, shockingly formidable. His previously brown eyes now gleamed gold, filled with madness and beast-like savagery.

Transformed by his Demon Spirit, Yun Kai looked like a Golden War God. Normally silent and reserved, now he seemed almost berserk.

Yun Kai locked his golden gaze on Yun Lin, eyes burning with fighting spirit and bloodlust. Under that stare, Yun Lin forced herself to stay calm, but her body tensed in an instant—somewhere inside, a flicker of fear took hold before she realized it.

Yun Kai had no intention of wasting words; with a stomp, his golden hair flew as he appeared before Yun Lin in a flash, his fist and shoulder blazing with golden light, pulling back briefly before thrusting forth like a spear in an unstoppable attack!

”So strong!”

Facing that golden fist rocketing toward her, before it even got near, a piercing howl split the air. Yun Lin felt her skin sting as if stabbed by needles.

Facing the ferocious, brutal Yun Kai, a chill crept into Yun Lin’s heart.

She had refined a Spirit Series Demon Spirit, excelling at Spiritual Attacks but lacking in raw power, so she had no intention of meeting force with force. Her snake tail snapped against the ground, launching her away with such speed her figure was almost indiscernible. The two boys behind her also retreated at once, not daring to face Yun Kai head-on at all.

Landing not far away, Yun Lin’s snake tail swayed as her silver eyes gazed deeply at Yun Kai, then she turned and charged toward the fourth seat.

Confronted with Yun Kai’s dominance, she still had some fighting power but no confidence to win. With Lin Feng eyeing her as well, and not willing to fight to the bitter end, she could only give ground.

The fourth seat was already occupied by another boy. Though he looked plain—short and not particularly sturdy—his strength was formidable.

Though he had refined a Sixth Grade Demon Spirit, not a high level, its innate skills had been honed to perfection in his hands.

They were a three-person squad, but their teamwork was seamless, and their Demon Spirit skills and setups highly synergetic. Facing the incoming Yun Lin, they exchanged glances—rather than retreat, they launched their attack first....

Seeing Yun Lin back off, Yun Kai breathed a sigh of relief. Avoiding a battle was best—whoever stayed fresh had the advantage. He was just about to step onto the third throne when...

”Below your feet!”

Lin Feng suddenly shouted, dashing rapidly toward Yun Kai.

Beneath the blazing sun—no telling when—a long shadow appeared on the ground, snaking through the crowded masses like a chain, shooting straight for Yun Kai.

This long shadow crept forth so eerily, gliding noiselessly along the ground—Yun Kai didn’t notice a thing.

”Wh...”

Though he hadn’t detected it, Yun Kai reacted fast. At Lin Feng’s shout, instead of looking down, he bent his knees and leapt—but the shadow pounced like a snake, coiling itself straight around Yun Kai’s right leg.

”Shadow Binding!”

Lin Feng flooded his feet with Spiritual Power, instantly upping his speed. Shadow Binding was an innate skill of the Ninth Grade Demon Spirit, Dark Puppet—a Demon Spirit prized by Assassins and Thieves alike.

”Damn it!”

The moment the bind took hold, Yun Kai shuddered, his body instantly seizing up. The next second, his right hand jerked upwards, razor claws slashing straight at his own eyes.

”Yun Kai’s done for!”

”It’s a Shadow Puppet! Which dirty bastard dared sabotage our Emperor Kai!”

”Shadow Puppet is a perfect Demon Spirit for the Assassin class—not that strong in a fight, but once it grabs you, it’s almost certain death.”

”My Emperor Kai....”

Many in the crowd watching the Light Curtain gasped, fearing to see his head burst open then and there.

”Get lost!”

Realizing he’d been controlled, Yun Kai roared in rage, his dark-golden pupils contracting. Just as his own right claw was barely three centimeters from his eyeball, it froze. Yun Kai’s right hand trembled, and as he struggled madly, the sensation of being controlled weakened. Just as he was about to win his body back, five figures charged toward him at full speed.

All five were already Demon-Transformed. Two rushed at Lin Feng, the other three closed in on Yun Kai, their claws slashing all around him.
