Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 672 -672: Encountering Auspicious Silk (6)

The surveillance in the office area had been broken for nearly a week, with no one coming to fix it, so there was no surveillance footage, and it being a public area with people coming and going, it wasn’t easy to investigate.

Chuzheng had a purchase receipt in her hand, and indeed, someone had seen her place the item there before.

Two hundred thousand was not a small sum, and it couldn’t just be left at that.

There was surveillance in the corridor outside the office, but after reviewing the footage, they could only see who was the last one to leave.

The last person to leave was also an intern, but the intern was not considered a major suspect.

“Who came here first in the morning?”

The questioning officer looked at them.

Everyone frowned and thought for a while before someone said, “It seems like it was Xiao Hong.”

Xiao Hong waved her hands: “Not me.”

“When I arrived, you were the only one here.”

Xiao Hong waved her hands again: “No, no, Sister Liu was here before me. But she left later, said she was going to have breakfast…”

Everyone’s attention turned to Liu Qin.

Liu Qin said, “I was the first to arrive, but I didn’t do anything, I just left after placing my things.”

Liu Qin arrived the earliest, which increased suspicion on her.

Liu Qin discontentedly said, “Who knows if she took the item away and is now saying it was left here and got lost. That thing is worth two hundred thousand, what normal person would leave something like that here?”

The questioning officer also found it strange, “Why would you leave such a valuable item at the company?”

Chuzheng leaned against the table, her expression indifferent, “Valuable, is it?”

Officer: “…”

Everyone: “…”

Two hundred thousand and you ask if it’s valuable!

You think it’s twenty bucks!

“To me, it’s not valuable.” Bastard’s money, mass-produced on an assembly line.

All they could do was silently clutch their chests, feeling the blow from Chuzheng.

Liu Qin insisted that she had never seen Chuzheng’s bracelet.

In the end, the officer requested a search.

“Go ahead and search.” Liu Qin was calm.

Naturally, they didn’t find anything in the end.

Unable to find anything and not wanting to further delay everyone’s work, the investigators left quickly.

“That’s all, there’s nothing to see. Everyone back to work!”

Everyone dispersed, returning to their own stations.

Liu Qin cast a sideways glance at Chuzheng before going back to her own place.

The short-haired girl stood next to Chuzheng, “Your report didn’t do any good, whoever took the stuff surely knew our office surveillance was out.”

Chuzheng, unconcerned, said, “I know who took it.”

The reporting did not catch the thief, but it could scare the culprit.

With so many people on the scene, everyone watched as if it were a show. Even when questioned, they appeared uninvolved and nonchalant.

Only Liu Qin’s tone and expression were off; she seemed nervous.

If she was innocent, why be nervous?

“Who… who is it?”

Chuzheng glanced at her and uttered two serious words, “A secret.”

Short-haired girl: “…”

–

Liu Qin hurried off as soon as work ended, as if she had urgent business at home.

Others, however, were quite concerned about Chuzheng’s two-hundred-thousand worth bracelet, but Chuzheng, not in the mood to spar with them, left the circle with just her gaze and followed Liu Qin.

Liu Qin went to a nearby shop and came out after quite a while, holding a small bag.

She looked around nervously, and quickly took something from the small bag and stuffed it into her purse.

Just as she was about to stuff it in, her wrist was suddenly seized.

“Didn’t you say you didn’t take it?”

A cold voice rang in Liu Qin’s ear, and all the hairs on her body stood on end.

Her hand was pulled out, and in her grasp was unmistakably Chuzheng’s bracelet.

Liu Qin’s face drained of all color,

“I… I…”

Chuzheng took the bracelet back, “Letting me take the fall for your job, stealing from me, you really are more capable than I am.”

Liu Qin stood petrified, her limbs heavy as if they had been filled with lead.

“Chuzheng, forgive me, it wasn’t on purpose, I really didn’t mean it,” Liu Qin suddenly clutched at her arm, pleading, “The thing is here, take it back, please don’t expose me, okay?”

Chuzheng: “…”

It was her own thing to begin with, the way she spoke made it seem as if she were taking a bribe.

“I was possessed by some momentary madness, I don’t know what came over me, I just took it when I saw it, it really was just a momentary lapse… I’m truly sorry, I’ve worked here for so many years, I can’t be fired.”

Chuzheng gave her a sidelong glance, “The Director’s Wife arrived so timely, you tipped her off, didn’t you?”

Liu Qin abruptly let go of her, stepping back a couple of steps, clearly stricken with horror.

“You knew I was innocent, yet you went through such great lengths to frame me. Do you think I’m easy to bully?”

When one makes a mistake, they know to beg for forgiveness.

As if it was that easy.

Liu Qin likely hadn’t intended to frame her initially, it was just because she took her belongings in the morning.

Conveniently, when the Director noticed a lapse in the work, Liu Qin went with the flow, pushing the blame onto Chuzheng.

Knowing the Director’s lecherous tendencies, she must have known he wouldn’t pass up such an opportunity.

So she sent a message to the Director’s Wife as well.

Even if nothing happened, getting caught by the Director’s Wife meant, to placate her, Chuzheng might very likely be fired.

Then the office rumors would be all about her and the Director.

Even if she noticed the bracelet missing and the office surveillance was broken, as long as she insisted she knew nothing, who could prove the theft was real and not just her crying wolf?

With her behavior, who would believe her?

Liu Qin thought she had a good plan.

However, she did not expect that Chuzheng would call the police directly, suspecting her from the start and catching her red-handed.

–

The next day.

When Chuzheng arrived at the company, she saw a bouquet of roses on her desk.

It was still from Xiao Ze.

Chuzheng tossed away the flowers and sat at her desk contemplating life.

“Hey, hey, I just saw the notice posted by HR. Liu Qin was fired, and I heard she’s been taken away by the police! Did she steal your bracelet?”

The company’s grapevine was fast, and most employees already knew.

“Yeah.”

“How did you get the evidence?”

“I followed her.”

“??” The short-haired girl was startled by this blunt answer.

Theft of a two hundred thousand yuan bracelet, Liu Qin was really in big trouble now.

“You’re engaging in entrapment,” the short-haired girl finally managed to say after a moment.

Two hundred thousand yuan!

Just placed right before someone!

How many people could resist the temptation?

Chuzheng casually flipped through a file, “If someone gets the urge to steal because others have left valuable items around, that is their problem, not mine. This is my desk, my personal space, I can place my things wherever I wish.”

The short-haired girl: “…”

It seems… kind of reasonable.

“What’s going to happen to Liu Qin?” the short-haired girl asked again.

“I don’t know.” Chuzheng tossed aside the file, her face cold and indifferent, “I’m not a law student.”

The short-haired girl: “…”

Why does it seem harder to communicate with her now?

She wasn’t like this before.
