Eternal Thief

Ace was startled by Marquis Kayleigh’s sudden demand for his proof of identity, but he didn’t have any, and even if he had it, he wouldn’t show it to her so easily.

Nonetheless, this woman’s voice was filled with authority, and he knew only this kind of aura and tone couldn’t be emulated unless the other party was like him.

Furthermore, she was probably far stronger than he was, so even if he wanted to escape, he knew he couldn’t outrun her, and instead, he would draw more attention to himself, and leaving this place might become more difficult.

Ace suppressed his uneasiness and politely asked, “May I ask who you are and why you want to see my identification?”

Marquis Kayleigh’s eyes flashed with a hint of killing intent, making Ace’s heart tremble when he sensed it, and his guess regarding her cultivation became true. But he couldn’t understand why this woman suddenly showed killing intent towards a weak Ascension Master like him.

’Could it be she’s a murderer who likes to kill and torture weaklings like me?’ Ace thought, but then he sensed Marquis Kayleigh’s killing intent vanished.

Marquis Kayleigh had indeed suppressed her killing intent, as her urge to kill Ace grew unbearable with each passing moment they spoke. If not for her cultivation realm, she would’ve truly attacked.

At this moment, she flipped her hand, and an obsidian hexagram-shaped badge appeared on her palm, bearing crimson characters that read, ’Lord of Law Enforcement Division, Marquis Kayleigh’, along with a symbol of the Dread Duchess.

When Ace saw that badge and read what was on it, his expression froze and slightly paled as he could even sense the familiar aura of Dread Duchess originating from this badge, which means it is authentic, not to mention Marquis Kayleigh’s prowess, which was all the proof he needed to confirm her status.

’What in the world is the Lord of Law Enforcement Division doing in a place like this? More importantly, why is she snooping around in such a getup, and why would she confront me, of all people?

’No…wait, she’s an Abyssal Grand Lord, which means even if she had scanned me with her Law Sense, I won’t be able to detect it with my avatar…and her sudden killing intent. Don’t tell me she stopped me because she figured out I’m a Heavenly Being!?’ Ace’s mind raced as cold sweat broke out on her forehead, and the more he thought, the more it made eerie sense.

“Show me your identification and then come back with me for questioning!” Marquis Kayleigh stowed away the badge and, without waiting for Ace to reply, ordered in a chilling tone.

Now, even if Ace could produce proof of identity, she had already decided to bring him back because of the urge to devour that she was feeling because of him. She wanted to get to the bottom of it as she thought something was definitely wrong with this person.

Moreover, as the Lord of the Enforcement Division, she has the authority to detain anyone she finds suspicious. With the ongoing investigation into thefts, Ace can’t escape.

“Lord Marquis…” Ace’s tone suddenly shifted as he became extremely calm, and Marquis Kayleigh also noticed it instantly and became vigilant, “…I want to ask, why did you really stop me?”

Since there was no way to escape, and the other party was more powerful than him, he decided to conform to his guess.

Marquis Kayleigh’s eyes narrowed as she no longer hid her killing intent, and the temperature in the alley plummeted to a terrifying degree, for she knew this man was not simple, and earlier, he had pretended!

Furthermore, since the other party had dropped the act, she decided to confront him and clear her suspicion about his escape. She had already sealed off the space around them and was extremely confident in her ability, considering him as good as captured.

“Are you the thief that has been emulating Evil Venerable Angel’s methods, or are you the Evil Venerable Angel yourself?” Marquis Kayleigh questioned emotionlessly while intently staring at Ace.

Ace’s expression really changed the moment he heard ’Evil Venerable Angel’, but it was from fear instead. He was astounded and even felt strange when he heard Eva’s thief name from Marquis Kayleigh’s mouth.

’Just how famous is Eva?’

Ace wondered if someone like Marquis Kayleigh, the Lord of Law Enforcement Division, personally patrolling and detaining others under suspicion of being Eva, it could only mean she feared Eva!

Furthermore, Ace has to admit that Marquis Kayleigh’s luck was really terrifying, as she didn’t find Eva; instead, she directly found the source of her abilities.

But what he couldn’t understand was why Marquis Kayleigh would be searching for Eva, and he believed that he was an imitator, doubting whether he was the real deal or not.

’According to Eva, she hadn’t been active in the Obsidian Myriad Kingdom ever since she had become the Dread Duchess’s disciple, and if someone knew about her identity, this Marquis Kayleigh shouldn’t be snooping around this area and might’ve directly gone to her or even had alerted the Dread Duchess.

’So, it’s either someone somehow knew that Eva is here, or Marquis Kayleigh likes to patrol around personally. But it’s even stranger that she thinks of me as E.V.A. That only leaves me with one possibility that an imitator exists, and as for who that imitator is…’

Ace’s eyes went cold as the face of that imp instantly surfaced in his mind, and the faint appreciation he had towards the Scamp Gang vanished because they had alerted Marquis Kayleigh, which meant the entire Law Enforcement Division was probably searching for the thieves now.

This means that if a house member commits thievery, the others must be cautious, as this could thwart their plans or even put someone in danger.

Although Ace was very confident in his house members’ abilities, there were still thief acolytes who were new to this, and they could be the weak links, especially when someone like Marquis Kayleigh was on their tail.

Marquis Kayleigh also noticed Ace’s silence and slightly sensed the changes in his emotions, and she was about to use force to capture him when Ace suddenly spoke.

“I’m not the E.V.A, but I do know who you are looking for!”
