Armed Train in the Apocalypse

But he no longer had the capital for evolution.

Even Su Huan, a Tier Four Evolver, was powerless in this regard. He was merely someone who controlled a bit of the rule, not a god.

”No one can replace your position.”

Su Huan said seriously.

Lao San didn’t answer, but Su Huan saw the answer in his eyes.

’Fourth Brother, I’m not willing to accept this.’

Su Huan exhaled softly, took two potions from Lao San’s hand, gently supported Lao San’s neck, and injected them into the artery.

After the first potion was administered, Su Huan replaced it with the advanced version.

”Usually, the two potions require a few days in between, but with your Tier One Evolver foundation, you can inject them continuously.”

While injecting, he felt the state of the other’s body.

”The advanced potion can significantly enhance vision, neural reflexes, and a small amount of physical fitness. Once the two potions are injected, your combat power will be slightly weaker than firearm-evolving evolvers, comparable to other Tier One Evolvers. However... Director Xu said that there is still room for improvement in this transformation potion.”

...

When Su Huan walked out, only two empty bottles of potion remained in his hand.

He understood Lao San, it was not just the pain of being unable to evolve, but also the feeling of helplessness seeing everyone move forward while he could only stand still. Running at the forefront, he was even less qualified to say something like ”It’s not bad to stay behind.”

Evolution is romantic, filled with fantasy and hope, but it is also a road of blood and tears.

With his palms clenched, the sturdy needle and special ”glass” were crushed into powder by the energy.

Continuing to walk back, the carriage farm of the Huang Sea became even more lush, like a fairy-tale plant kingdom, presenting a splendid scene even amid the gloom of the Wind Snow Zone.

Here is the most intuitive place for Su Huan to feel the beautiful side of evolution.

Strangely, as he walked leisurely, the chaotic images in his mind finally quieted down, and even the burning sensation in his right hand seemed to disappear. Su Huan emptied his mind, not thinking about Yang Cunyi or the Pale Demon, observing each corner of the train like a traveler. The conductors he passed retreated to the sides, saluting him with reverence.

He found more activities space for the crew, including a stage for speeches, and in the corner, there were two vending machines and mutated plants, with more in the crew’s aisle. The bar had added a few coffee machines, blenders, and some drink machines Su Huan couldn’t name alongside alcohol.

All these things were brought back by the Armed Corps during battles outside. Maybe they were plastic parts from the Rust Area, uncorroded metal from the Plant Zone, or well-preserved underground equipment from the Wind Snow Zone, coordinated by the Secretary group to various departments, and after some tinkering and repair, placed here.

And Su Huan knew all of these, yet at the same time did not.

He merely set a rough framework, like the bones of the train, which, under the urgings of time, gradually gave birth to flesh and blood. If the past train was merely the conductor’s tool, the extension of his will, now it had become a complete life, growing and perfecting itself without his notice.

The Armed Train already belonged to everyone.

Su Huan had never realized this so clearly.

Time passed quickly in his contemplation. Although step by step slowly, Su Huan unknowingly arrived at the dining car, which was more noisy than any carriage. The hiss of steam, the crackling of hot oil, the clatter of spatula against iron wok during cooking, and the loud shouts of the cook.

A soft ”ouch” snapped Su Huan out of his thoughts.

Su Huan didn’t expect someone to bump into him, first a bit surprised, then he looked at the person who bumped into him.

About seventy centimeters tall, roughly reaching his calf, the child sat on the ground, looking up at Su Huan with clear, inquisitive eyes, completely unaware of the impending doom for bumping into the train conductor. The little head seemed not to have reacted yet.

Just when Su Huan thought he was going to cry, the little guy grabbed Su Huan’s pant leg and struggled to stand up. Then he let out an ”ah,” not a sharp noise, but one filled with curiosity.

Even though it was just one syllable, Su Huan truly understood what he wanted to say, probably ”Why did you bump into me?”

Just when Su Huan was about to respond, a woman stood out in panic, scooping up the child, trembling as she spoke, ”Conductor, I didn’t notice...”

Seeing the woman, Su Huan recognized the child’s identity,

Liu Qiyue, the first child born on the train, or more accurately, the first child conceived on the train.

The significance of the two is not quite the same.

Noticing the apron on the woman, Su Huan’s expression softened a bit, ”How are things now?”

The woman slightly relaxed, seeing that Su Huan did not mind the recent intrusion, respectfully and gratefully said, ”Thank you for your care. Secretary Shu transferred me here. Maintenance work is too dirty and dangerous, not convenient for bringing a child; here it is much better.”

As the woman spoke, little Qiyue reached towards Su Huan, scaring the woman into quickly pressing down the child’s small hand.

Looking at the little one’s persistent black eyes, Su Huan smiled, raised a finger, and a mighty little flame dragon appeared out of thin air in the air, circling around the child, while flying, it scattered golden light, extremely beautiful.

Little Qiyue’s attention immediately shifted, eagerly reaching out for the little flame dragon.

When the little flame dragon dissipated, Su Huan quietly left as well.

The silver little ax hanging on Liu Qiyue’s neck flashed a touch of warm red light but soon returned to its usual appearance.

When Su Huan arrived at the Cultivation Pod, his heart was calm, and his steps inexplicably became lighter.

The Cultivation Pod was still the same, every inch of space inside the turtle shell was repeatedly utilized by Wang Duoyu and others, leaving no waste. Even the ceiling was occupied by various equipment and pipelines, giving a cybernetic factory appearance.

The only abnormal thing was the number of living people.

And they were quite normal.

Reaching Director Xu’s prison, seeing the ugly and deformed situation inside, it felt just right.

Besides the old regulars like No. 1, there were also two Mao Bear sisters. The two of them didn’t commit any serious offense, just drank the Genetic Transformation Potion, successfully lowering the potion’s 100% success rate to 98.96%. It caused Director Xu to inspect for a long time, consuming heaps of resources and effort, only to find out it was drunk by these two foolish women. In anger, he locked them up, specifically as subjects for this transformation potion.

But Su Huan did not come to see them, if not for Lao San, he wouldn’t care much about the potion’s result.

He mainly came to check on the progress of the Genetic Primordial research.

Among the three Genetic Primordials on the train, besides him, Lin Xi and Mirror both encountered issues with insufficient carrying capacity at different stages.

He kept Lin Xi at dual Tier One, and Mirror at Tier Two, but that didn’t solve the fundamental problem.

The growth of skills was like cancer, without awareness or constraint, endlessly growing until the host completely collapses and dies.

Thus, the major forces’ method of using Genetic Primordials was, within their life span, to deduce abilities as much as possible, then collect genes as seeds to manufacture Genetic Potions.

This was the value of Genetic Primordials—valuable experimental material.

As for their value as individuals, it could be entirely ignored in the face of these interests.

Opening the laboratory door, a girl in a white long dress quietly sat on the lab desk, her long hair flowing like silver under the cold light, shining like lunar brilliance, thin arms habitually hugging her knees.

Two female researchers were offering clothes and blankets, showing concern, but the girl merely shook her head silently.

Until Su Huan entered, the girl raised her eyes.

The room seemed to light up.
