Armed Train in the Apocalypse

”Cowards in battle will die, do you have any objections?”

The translator’s cold mechanical voice repeated the sentence.

The Evolver froze where he stood, the stinging pain on his face disappearing in that moment.

He had a premonition that if he uttered a single word of disagreement, he would die.

He was merely a Tier One ”Gatherer”, even if he advanced to Tier Two, he wouldn’t escape from the mongoose’s grip.

His anger and humiliation were gradually replaced by fear, and the man mustered his last bit of courage to speak.

”...No, sir.”

”Bang! Bang! Bang!”

The cannon fire overhead fired three times in succession, signaling the full assault.

The man only felt a sharp presence sweep past him, as the mongoose’s figure vanished onto the front line.

”Attack.”

To the soldiers on the ground, the armed train resembled a centipede-like war machine, rumbling across the sky and snowstorm, with countless gun barrels extending from below, crazily sweeping the pale demons on the ground.

Wherever it passed, red blossoms bloomed in the snow.

Like a bulldozer, it tore through the battlefield, charging toward the area with the most pale demons.

There were no waves of supernatural power, only the purest gunfire, whose flickering became the most dazzling ornament on the train’s body, illuminating it like a luxurious castle, ablaze with lights.

There were no passionate roars, no grandiose missions, only the utmost slaughter.

Pain and cold echoed across the snowy plains, seeming endless.

Su Huan merely sat in the room, yet could feel a continuous flow of Life Force being transmitted from his right hand, then infused into his body.

It was known that the train could block the entry of pale demons.

On the ground lay two severed hands and several chunks of flesh and blood, the carpet under the conductor dyed dark by blood, his eyes and black hair blended into a shadow.

Gunfire reinforcements, led by Tasia, arrived on the battlefield a quarter-hour after the full assault commenced, as the United Army launched a large-scale counteroffensive.

The slaughter continued for a long time, from day into night, and He Jie pushed the battle line from within Gunfire territory all the way to Donghuang territory, yet the Tier Four guy never appeared, only ordinary pale demons.

The temperature dropped again, leaving ordinary soldiers outside to surround and clear, while a few elite United Army troops entered Donghuang territory to continue the hunt.

The snow gradually covered the bloodstained earth.

In the dead of night, just as Su Huan was considering whether to go out and search himself, Su Han knocked on his door.

”Father, front line soldiers have found people from Iron Pine Forest Camp, they would like to see you.”

”Iron Pine Forest Camp?” Su Huan was momentarily dazed, recalling the visage of that rough northeastern leader, although the Wind Snow Zone was nominally their territory, Su Huan had not seen them often, only once during the decimation of the Yushu Camp outside a military base.

In the dining room, the Iron Pine Forest leader quickly stood up upon seeing Su Huan approach, smiling, ”I hope my abrupt visit didn’t disturb the conductor’s rest.”

”Hehe...are you going to apologize to me?” Su Huan adjusted into a comfortable posture, and said calmly.

The man did not respond directly, forced a laugh twice, ”The incident at Yushu Platform a while ago was just a misunderstanding, we have already captured the revolting personnel...”

With a wave of his hand, two men were brought up by soldiers.

Their appearance looked decent, but their spirits seemed scattered; it appeared they had been looked after in advance.

The camp leader patted his chest and said, ”For the loss that these little brats caused you, we will compensate threefold from Iron Pine Forest Camp!”

Su Huan thought for a moment, ”There wasn’t much loss, just tell me, what brings you here?”

The two captives were taken away, and the camp leader stated formally, ”Word is you’re battling pale demons in the north, Iron Pine Forest came to see if there’s anything we can lend a hand with, and also heard you want to go further north?”

”But that area is Eternal Night Zone. Once you enter, you can’t come back...”

Su Huan leaned forward slightly, ”You’ve met Qiu Chong?”

The man shook his head, ”I don’t know who Qiu Chong is, but our factions sent countless people there one after another without seeing even a ripple, so no one ventured inside. Until now, we haven’t heard of any faction returning.”

”We even suspect Eternal Night is the endpoint of all major districts, but the military assuredly mentioned twelve, yet we don’t know how to count them. Speaking from the heart, I advise you not to go further north...”

The rugged man earnestly pleaded.

Su Huan leaned back onto the sofa, smiling without replying.

The camp leader, seeing he couldn’t persuade, sighed, ”As I said, dealing with pale demons, as long as you call us, we’ll be there, but we won’t follow north.”

His frankness was noted by Su Huan, who naturally wouldn’t make things difficult for him, and briskly saw him out.

Outside, most obtainable information had been gathered, all secrets locked within Eternal Night, no matter what, he had to take this journey.

Su Huan strode toward the front of the train, from afar, already hearing He Jie’s cursing.

Seeing him appeared to restrain it slightly.

”These beasts really endure, slaughtering several tens of thousands without a peep, still need to give them something fierce.”

He Jie said viciously.

Su Huan glanced at the terrain map; the train had reached the eastern edge of Donghuang, bordering Mao Bear, the points of pale demons behind them greatly reduced.

”Perhaps it’s not about quantity.” Su Huan muttered softly.

The burning sensation in his right hand continuously scorched his nerves.

”What do you mean?”

He Jie frowned.

”They’re waiting for a chance, or rather...waiting for me.”

...

”July 14, 2037, -84°C.”

”Death breaks the spider web like a stone, and those who survive will establish new connections.”

The war continued, though its intensity had greatly reduced.

The battlefield shifted from within Gunfire territory to the border between Donghuang and Mao Bear, Gunfire’s ordinary soldiers remained in the west, easing manpower gaps significantly.

The remaining elites were dispatched to the forefront.

Around three thousand genetically modified warriors, for instance.

The armed train had supplied Gunfire with a total of five thousand modified warriors, losing over two thousand in the grand battle, for their physical attributes were far inferior to Tier One Evolvers, and bullets on the battlefield made no distinctions.

Yet these warriors played a crucial role, their pure line-filling effect comparable to Evolvers.

Tasia still wanted to order another batch, but Su Huan naturally wouldn’t supply them.

The remaining three thousand were enough; he was here to wage war, not to provide aid.

A portion of the remaining potion would be sold to Iron Pine Forest Camp, the bulk retained for personal use, although the train carried no ordinary people besides children, no one could have too much transformation potion.

Even without Su Huan calling, Iron Pine Forest Camp came to assist.

More accurately, the battlefield bordered their camp site in a birch forest.

Four sled dogs in colorful floral jackets pulled the sled, sprinting wildly along the slope, originally needing some direction discernment, now simply had to look up at the train to locate the campsite.

Stopping at a snow-covered building, the man put away the sled, leading the dogs inside.

The building was evidently a residential block, yet buried under snow, the top floor becoming the ground’s entrance.

Descending one level, he saw the guardian at the end, who relaxed upon seeing the man, laughingly asking, ”How’d the harvest go? Lame Lao Liu just said you likely got kicked by wild rabbits!”

The man spat contemptuously, cursing, ”He’s the one kicked by rabbits! There was nothing on the mountain today, swept clean!”

”Could it be pale demons?”

The guard asked curiously while opening the door.

The man hesitated, shaking his head, ”Not sure, I need to report to the leader.”

The man led the dogs inside, the surroundings warming up, accompanied by festive cheer and liveliness, no doors shut tight, every household’s door wide open, children occasionally dashing through, laughter resonating now and then from within.

Stepping aside for the sprinting kid, he looked toward the corridor’s end.

The camp leader accompanied a long-haired man, his demeanor enthusiastic like welcoming a leader.
