Wizard: Scamming a Demon God

Chapter 187: Chapter 150: Curious Baby

Isaac didn’t know much about the Itra Kingdom. This was because his intelligence network was practically nonexistent at the moment. Even with the help of his family’s Shadow Guards, their information on foreign nations was also quite limited.

The Shadow Guards mainly collected intelligence from within the Empire and the Wilderness. Their understanding of foreign countries was only a tiny bit better than Isaac’s.

Therefore, despite all the time that had passed, Isaac still didn’t know much about the Itra Kingdom.

However, this didn’t stop him from making a rough guess about the uprisings in the Itra Kingdom!

’This whole thing is definitely not normal!’

Uprisings were not unfamiliar to Isaac. After all, he had studied them extensively in his previous life.

In his previous life, the fundamental reason for all uprisings was that the common people at the bottom could no longer survive!

Regardless of whether someone with ulterior motives deliberately started it, once an uprising occurred, it meant the common people definitely couldn’t get by anymore. Otherwise, it would just be a simple rebellion.

In this world, it was more or less the same, just with the added factor of Extraordinary Power, which meant an uprising could also be instigated by a villain using Magic to control the common people.

But no matter which type of uprising it was, the ones in Itra were definitely not normal!

After all, these uprisings happened once a year. How could they possibly be so frequent under normal circumstances?

If the reason for the uprisings was the former, the people of the Itra Kingdom should have been wiped out within a few years. After all, War kills people, and so do harsh living conditions. But if the reason was the latter...

That would be even weirder. Someone was plotting an uprising every single year—were the higher-ups of the Itra Kingdom all morons? Did they not have any preventive measures at all?

But if you framed it in terms of a conspiracy theory or a ritual, it became much easier to explain.

Never mind the conspiracy theory; the Itra Kingdom still had quite a few rare, renewable resources like the Kaleidoscope Eye. They were very difficult and expensive to purchase through normal means. But if one were to help the Itra Royal Family ”overcome a crisis,” obtaining them would be much easier.

Isaac leaned more toward this possibility. According to the intelligence he’d gathered, the Itra Kingdom would call for outside help with every annual uprising, and the treasuries containing those precious, renewable resources would usually be opened.

Isaac absolutely refused to believe this was just a coincidence.

But the ritual theory wasn’t impossible either, because there were indeed a few countries in this world that specialized in holding rituals for Legendary Mages!

It had practically become an industry!

’Who’s to say Itra isn’t doing the same thing?’

But as for the specifics, he’d find out once he got there!

Isaac put away his Magic Book, stood up, and left the laboratory. He gathered everyone in the meeting hall. It was time to set out.

In the meeting hall, Isaac briefly explained the situation and then began assigning tasks. Now that their numbers had grown, it was no longer necessary for the entire territory to mobilize unless absolutely required.

Besides the inconvenience of moving a large group, the territory was also starting to develop some industries that needed guarding.

Although this was the heartland of Solomon and theoretically very safe, that protection only worked against large-scale invasions and was useless against petty theft.

”Saint Master, you will stay in the territory and continue to train the Secret Mages. Don’t forget to train yourself, either. When I return, you can begin trying to devour Dimensional Magic Power.”

”Yes, Master.”

”Liu Li, you need to supervise the construction of the Mage Tower. If any issues arise, contact me directly via Telepathy. At the same time, get the Defense Barrier set up.”

”Understood, Master.”

”Smith will come with me to the Itra Kingdom. Shushu, you’ll stay in the territory and continue your research on Necromancy. Complete the construction of your tactical system as soon as possible. As for you...” After assigning his own people, Isaac looked at Lorna and asked, ”This trip to the Itra Kingdom will definitely involve combat. Do you want to go?”

”Huh? I can go?” Hearing Isaac’s question, Lorna, who had been sitting quietly to the side, was a bit baffled. She pointed at herself, full of doubt. ”Is it really appropriate for me to participate in something so important?”

”There’s nothing inappropriate about it, and it’s not that important of a matter. Of course, it’s fine if you don’t want to go. You can stay here with Liu Li and set up the Defense Barrier.”

”I’ll go!” Lorna immediately agreed upon hearing this.

For one, she felt that as a newcomer who had just joined, it was important to avoid any appearance of impropriety. She definitely couldn’t be present for something like setting up a Defense Barrier; that would be completely clueless!

She’d been fired more than once from her previous jobs for seeing things she shouldn’t have.

For another...

Although it felt a little absurd, she was quite scared of Liu Li. She felt like Liu Li was hostile toward her!

The reason she used ”felt like” was because, so far, Liu Li hadn’t actually done anything against her. She wore the same expression for her as she did for everyone else.

But her intuition told her that Liu Li was hostile toward her!

”Alright. In that case, pack your things. Let’s get ready to leave.”

”Hm?” Seeing Isaac’s gaze fall upon her, Lorna blinked and then said, ”I can leave at any time. I don’t have anything to prepare. My weapon is already on me!”

With that, she stood up and proudly drew the Iron Sword from her waist—a blade that had seen who-knows-how-many owners.

”Sigh...” Isaac put a hand to his forehead, unable to stop a sigh from escaping. ’This is exactly why you need to prepare...’

But considering her limited experience, sending her to Lake Town by herself would probably yield the same result. So, Isaac waved his hand and said to Smith, ”Smith, take her to buy a set of gear. Just get a standard Combat Mage set.”
