Warlock Apprentice

The Stargazing Hall was utterly silent at this moment.

No one spoke, and everyone silently gazed at the ceiling of the hall where the dazzling starry sky resembled a projection of real and illusion.

This floating star map was the most precious secret treasure of the Crown Star Church, a mysterious object so coveted that no other wizard organizations dared give rise to envy—the Mystery of the Stars!

Because the numbers of stars that appear and disappear at this time, though hiding endless mysteries of the future, can only be deciphered by prophet wizards.

Nearly half of the prophet wizards of the Southern Domain were gathered here, searching in the Mystery of the Stars for answers to the questions in their hearts in the same posture.

Everyone was watching intently, but the Mystery of the Stars, although it can reflect the future, not everyone can see the future from it, and most people gain nothing. Just like now in the Observatory Hall, almost all of the apprentices were scratching their heads, and some of the prophet wizards sitting on the periphery also had furrowed brows and regretful expressions.

In other words, those who gained nothing accounted for about eighty percent of those in the hall.

Among the remaining twenty percent, even if they did perceive something due to the astrology, it might not be what they wanted to know. Often, it is only an unconscious future. Only a very few can, with the favor of strength and luck, get the information they wish to know.

Maya originally belonged to the rare faction of powerful prophet wizards; otherwise, she wouldn’t be sitting in such a front position.

But today, Maya felt a headache.

She saw nothing.

Maya came with a mission, according to Lord Rhein’s instructions, she needed to use the Mystery of the Stars to see if Angel would be targeted by the followers of the Seed, and if the Seed followers did target Angel, what tactics would they use? Would they use the Arrow of the Defeated?

The Mystery of the Stars shows the future starry sky, meaning that if your strength is sufficient, you can see countless possible futures on it.

And the rule of the Mystery of the Stars is that when you observe the stars, try to softly chant in your heart the thing you most wish to know, and the astrological image may then, due to your petition, guide to the final result, fulfilling your wish.

However, this is not absolute; sometimes, despite spending great effort, you cannot predict anything, or what you prophesy makes no sense to you and is far from what you intended.

Now, this was Maya’s situation. Maya kept opening and closing her eyes, constantly contemplating the mysteries of the floating starry sky, but no matter how she voiced her request in her heart, no inspiration came, and her mind was blank.

The subtly glowing starry sky grew more splendid as time passed, suggesting that the Mystery of the Stars was about to reach its zenith, showcasing an even more magnificent future before fading away. Like a narrative novel that, after its climax, inevitably returns to silence.

In other words, Stargazing Day was already halfway through.

Seeing the time until the Mystery of the Stars ended drawing near, for the first time, Maya felt a burning anxiety.

Her original plan was to check Angel’s situation first, then see what secrets lurked in the ruins guarded by Lord Rhein, to avoid being stymied in the prophecy of the ruins by Tuvalule of the Song of the Deep Sea, but now she couldn’t see anything, which caused Maya to feel an unexplained agitation in her usually tranquil heart.

As Maya was feeling distracted, she glanced at Dororo beside her.

Just this one glance made Maya’s heart skip a beat.

It wasn’t what Dororo had done, but rather his expression was just too... strange.

Maya had taught Dororo for a long time and knew that he was naturally indifferent, but this was an aspect of his character, not a complete lack of warmth, so it wasn’t noteworthy. But now, it seemed as if even the slightest warmth had disappeared; his eyes, expression, even from his hair to his toes, all displayed what it meant to be utterly cold.

This coldness was not disdain for the mundane, not alienation from excitement, but instead an extreme tranquility.

Like a deity high above, emotionlessly observing the cycle of seasons and all things in the world.

This was a height that ordinary apprentices could never showcase!

Maya had a strange feeling that Dororo, at this moment, seemed to merge with the World Will, absolute coldness, absolute justice, and an absolute... superiority.

”Is this the true talent of the Baiyuan?” Maya wondered to herself.

Amid Maya’s skepticism, she sensed several gazes, seemingly sweeping in their direction. And the origin of these gazes was precisely the center of the hall.

Maya raised her head, seeing that two or three Observers in the center seemed to have noticed Dororo.

They looked at Dororo, then at Maya, appearing to be pondering something, their eyes carrying an unknown gleam.

Maya could not discern the meaning of their gaze, but she understood that these Observers seemed to have developed a strong interest in Dororo.

Maya silently sighed in her heart; during the previous Stargazing Day, Dororo had already attracted the attention of some people. This time, he exhibited anomaly even before the prophecy was revealed... It is likely that someone will inevitably discuss Dororo later on.

Maya felt somewhat helpless in her heart, but since Dororo had been noticed, there was nothing that could be done. In any case, with her present and backed by the Barbarian Cave, Dororo should remain unharmed even if he displays his brilliance.

Maya retracted her gaze, no longer concerning herself with Dororo, focusing instead on seeking answers within the Mystery of the Stars.

Maya exhaled deeply, closed her eyes, and rested for ten minutes, dispelling all unsettling worries, and only when her mind settled into complete tranquility did she reopen her eyes, gazing at the dazzling starry sky above.

As the star map shone ever brighter, Maya’s long-silent spiritual sense finally began to stir...

The first future Maya saw was in a pitch-black space.

It seemed to be in the void, yet maybe just on black soil, where a path of starlight continued to stretch forward... all the way to the very end. At the end of the starlight path was a box with an indistinct shape, and just as Maya’s thoughts sought to discern the box’s true form, a monster’s head glowing blue emerged from the void.

At the same time, everything before her began to fall apart, and Maya’s vaguely unfocused pupils gradually refocused.

Maya furrowed her brow: ”This should be a fragment of the future, with no valuable information.”

Because it was completely dark around, she couldn’t glean any clues. The box might not be a treasure, perhaps it was a lure for some monster.

So, Maya didn’t dwell on it, merely sighing slightly in her heart; she was explicitly asking for matters concerning Angel, so why was there such a disparate vision?

Setting aside this brief fragment, Maya returned to silence.

Perhaps due to the earlier successful experience, this time, Maya quickly felt a sweet spring once again flowing into her dried-up inspiration...
