Starting as a Mechanical Hunter

Chapter 836: Chapter 4: Memory Loss

In a Virtual Civilization, the most core function is not the signal system or the conversion system, but the computing system.

Only by maintaining endless computations can a Virtual Space operate normally.

So ’Quantum Computers’ become ’Civilization Traits’.

These virtual personas that escaped the Arasaka Tower are like fish out of the sea.

Turing chose to consume them, to strengthen itself.

While Gao Yuanyuan chose to create a new sea realm, accommodate them, nurture them.

’Membrane Realm’, ’Random Data Synthesizer’, ’Tower of Spirit Image’

These three information architectures were created by Gao Gong to resist the Memory Mother’s equipment.

But this isn’t the actual purpose of these three Civilization Architectures.

Their true function is to create Virtual Space.

”She really has grown up.”

”Hmph!”

Gox suddenly jumped off Gao Gong’s lap, stepping on the railing, staring at the sky’s Turing God, his eyes flashed eager to try.

”Shall we battle with it?”

”Turing, huh.” Gao Gong stared at the glowing Human Form hundreds of meters tall, feeling endless Divinity from it.

Among the thirteen Destruction Forms, he could sense humanity in twelve, or rather, their thinking was similar to this planet’s Intelligent Species. But only this one, he only felt Divinity.

And Divinity in the Cosmos is also known as regularity, a sort of Physical Law, yet with more variables like information law.

”He... won’t.”

As expected from Gao Gong’s words, after snatching nearly a third of the Virtual Personas from Gao Yuanyuan’s hands, Turing’s divine silhouette disappeared once more.

Almost simultaneously, the information gate created by Gao Yuanyuan slowly closed.

Arasaka Tower fell, but the massive stored Virtual Persona did not get released. Instead, it was neatly divided by two monsters.

”Let’s go, nothing much to see.”

Gao Gong shook his head; regardless of whether the Virtual Personas spread out or not, the Cyber Tide has begun.

Feeling bored, Gox shouted:

”Little ones, let’s get back to work, now our target isn’t just small hackers anymore, all the criminals in the underground world are within our Attack Range.”

”Boss, are we a justice organization?” Old Man Lei, encrypted in codes, exclaimed in surprise.

Without saying a word, Gox slapped him.

”Fool, without recruiting enough talent, how can we pull off a big one!”

...

Within the Virtual Level, Paradise Bird watched as the mask of Terria gradually vanished in the flames, she knew, this one’s probably really gone.

”Although I don’t know why you did this, no matter what, you were a good opponent.”

Gao Gong and others left, ’God’ left, Hacker also left.

And the players still engaged in fierce battle received system notifications.

[Planet main mission, ’Collapse of Arasaka Tower’, ended, collapse of Arasaka Tower is complete, reward settlement in progress——]

”Gone, just like that?”

”No way, what is this?”

”Hahaha, we won, wife, bring Old Wang next door to meet God!”

”Damn it, what are you neural editors doing, I guarded the tower so well, and my home gets robbed in return?!”

”Bro, aren’t you looking at the level of those hackers, they’re all freaking question marks!”

As players reveled in joy or grief, inside Arasaka Tower, a group of Arasaka Group executives frantically waited by the elevator doors.

These top managers were aware of the news of the Virtual Persona release.

During the initial bidding, it was the Arasaka Conglomerate that paid a huge price to become the contractor for this Virtual Personality Center.

Precisely because of this Virtual Personality Backup Center, Arasaka Group could have a foothold in the fiercely competitive market, and now, with the Backup Center hacked, just the accountability from the Mother City is enough to give the group a tough time.

With a ’ding’, the door opened, Arasaka Ichiro walked out expressionless, his aged face lifted, eyes slowly sweeping around.

In the next moment, transparent tendrils shot out from the cranium, directly inserting into each executive’s brain, brain matter splattering all over the hallway.

Soon, Arasaka Ichiro walked out of Arasaka Tower. Many players noticed this Arasaka Group’s final boss.

”Damn, Arasaka Ichiro, this guy isn’t dead?”

”Of course not dead, such faction bosses, if they die the system would issue a notice.”

”Can we fight him?”

”Nonsense, is there a boss that can’t be fought in this game?”

Many players’ Intelligent Weapons auto-activated aiming, however, before the gunshots sounded, transparent tendrils fell from the sky, directly piercing the players’ cerebrums, causing their eyes to whiten and then their bodies to become flesh puppets.

Soon, a surge of people started moving throughout Arasaka Central Headquarters.

Arasaka Ichiro’s aura became more terrifying, muttering to himself while walking.

”Personality storage, storage, absorb, storage...”

...

”Has Arasaka Ichiro gone mad?”

In the Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division, when Gao Gong received this news, he wasn’t surprised.

After all, in the previous life, Arasaka Ichiro had turned into a big monster of ’memory extraction’, this time it did restore the plot.

He was checking the system panel, and he had to admit, the rewards for completing a mission were indeed generous.

[Planet’s main mission completed, gained 50 billion personal experience, Arasaka Tower reputation -100,000 (current relationship: Deadly Enemy)]

[Player faction npc: Paradise Bird, Gao Yuanyuan killed ’Terria’, experience +10 million, two pieces of incomplete information puzzle]

Although he hadn’t participated personally, resulting in fewer kills, just the experience from the main planetary mission was enough to level up to Tier 3, without worrying about his experience.

”Paradise Bird, indeed worthy of being the world’s number one hacker, is truly powerful.”

”But who is this woman called Gao Yuanyuan? A new recruit of Paradise Bird, she sounds a bit like a weakling.”

Gao Gong muttered to himself.

At this moment, Miss Ke’s voice sounded.

”Minister, the large-scale ’memory loss’ event you anticipated has begun, please head to the data center quickly, the people of the Five Shells, as well as the Memory Supervision Department, want to meet with you.”

”I understand,” Gao Gong got up to attend the meeting directly, ”By the way, Miss Ke, if there’s any news on Yagami Suuji, notify me as soon as possible, I want to know how things are progressing on her end.”

”Recorded and archived, if there’s any news on Yagami Suuji, I will inform the Minister immediately.”

After Gao Gong left, Miss Ke’s voice rang out again—

”’Yagami Suuji’ file search in progress, no member files found, confirmed, not a member of the Ghost in the Shell Mobile Division”

...

In a shabby house in area 7.

”Wife, come out for dinner.”

”What are you yelling about, can’t a person get some sleep?”

A plain-looking, casually dressed middle-aged woman came out of the room, yawning and complaining.

”No, wife, look.”

”Look at what, not looking.”

Despite saying this, the middle-aged woman, with a toothbrush in her mouth, came to the front of the TV.

On the TV, an AI host was broadcasting methodically.

”According to the latest information from Mother City, a large-scale memory loss syndrome will unfold globally, citizens are advised to protect their personal information, record the contact information of relatives and friends, and if memory loss occurs, report it immediately, the relevant department will handle it.”

”Memory loss, is that rare?” The middle-aged woman turned her head, looking at her lazy husband, ”Who am I?”

”My wife.”

”What?”

”My most gentle and lovely, innocent and kind, graceful wife.”

”What’s our bank card’s password?”

”51510319831.”

”Where did you hide your private money?”

”My private money is hidden... Oh no, I’ve lost this part of my memory,” the lazy husband suddenly smartened up, patted his head, and said in astonishment.

”Old thing,” the middle-aged woman glanced at him.

”Seriously though, I often forget the dream I had last night, is that normal?”

”Who can remember yesterday’s dream, but what did you dream of, you’ve been so listless lately,” the lazy husband suddenly became alert, saying: ”We agreed before getting married, couples can cosplay, but without the other party’s permission, playing virtual machines, especially online versions, is not allowed.”

The middle-aged woman gave him a thumbs down: ”I’m not that vulgar, although I can’t remember the specific content of the dream, I’ve always been saving the world in it!”

The lazy husband felt bored and continued watching TV.

The middle-aged woman went back to her room, suddenly seeing the sunglasses on her bedside, she remembered they were bought during a honeymoon with her husband, enjoying an artificial sunbath.

Unable to help it, the middle-aged woman put on the sunglasses, and while her lazy husband wasn’t watching, she summoned with her hand.

”Come out, my deputy.”

”Transformation!”

”Permission unlocked!”

”...”

The middle-aged woman awkwardly took off the sunglasses, muttering:

”Seems like dreams are just dreams after all.”

Suddenly, from outside came a scream from the lazy husband, the last time he screamed like this was when he won ten yuan in a lottery.

The middle-aged woman hurried out.

And right after she left, a cold electronic voice sounded.

’Cloud Wing Assassin 007, you are currently on vacation, do you have any other business requests?’

’007 application revoked, business window closed, Deep Net link disconnected.’

...

As the middle-aged woman jogged to the door, she saw her lazy husband with his mouth wide open, repeatedly saying to a little shota.

”I’m your dad?”

”Yes, dad, what’s up?” The little shota with a watermelon helmet asked curiously.

Damn, not allowing me to play virtual machines, and you have an illegitimate child yourself!

The middle-aged woman was enraged, just about to deal with her husband when she saw the little shota tilting his head, skillfully calling out.

”Mom, you’re awake.”
