Hestia stepped out from between the trees, golden light trailing behind her like a veil.

The necromancer girl’s jaw dropped.

A soft chime ringing in her ears —

 System alert: Unclassified entity detected.

Designation: Hestia.

Tier: unknown.

Origin: unknown.

Threat level: YES!

Interaction protocol: DO NOT ENGAGE...

Another line flickered, glitching as if the system itself was struggling to process what stood before her.

The text wavered, then expanded on its own.

Recommendation: remain still.

Observe.

Survive.

The necromancer girl stared at Hestia, trembling, her voice barely a whisper.

”...oh gods...You’re...you’re...you’re...”

”A goddess... yes Reia I am,” Hestia finished gently.

She squeaked and hid behind Charlie, gripping her cloak like a shield.

Charlie blinked. ”Really? You’re a necromancer...”

”She’s knew my name, Tree‑girl! There’s a huge difference!”

Charlie growled ”TREE GIRL!?”

Hestia smiled softly.

”There is no need to fear me.”

The necromancer girl peeked out from behind Charlie’s shoulder.

”You’re... real?”

”As real as you.”

Her brain visibly short‑circuited. ”No...NOPE, this is crazy.” She turned to Charlie who gave her a shrug.

Hestia knelt beside the fallen man, brushing a hand over his forehead. He relaxed into a peaceful sleep instantly.

Then she turned to the girls.

The necromancer girl whispered, ”So the game... isn’t a game.”

”No,” Hestia said. ”It never was.”

The clearing still hummed with leftover magic. The necromancer girl crouched in the grass clutching herself, and the unconscious man lay breathing softly where Hestia had left him. Hestia’s gaze drifted toward Charlie — soft, warm, knowing.

”Charlie,” she said gently, ”walk with me.”

Charlie blinked, startled. ”Me? Why me?”

Hestia smiled. ”Because you ask the questions others are afraid to ask.”

Charlie’s cheeks warmed. She glanced at the necromancer girl, then back at Hestia. ”...Okay.”

Hestia turned toward the trees, then paused and looked back at the necromancer girl.

”Stay with him,” Hestia said, voice calm but absolute.

The necromancer girl stiffened. ”W‑with the... the man?”

”He is stable,” Hestia said. ”He will not wake, but he must not be left alone here.”

The necromancer girl swallowed hard, hugging herself tighter. ”Y‑yes, ma’am...”

Satisfied, Hestia continued walking. Charlie followed, steps small at first, then steadier as the forest swallowed them in warm, golden light.

They stopped beside a fallen log, the air thick with pine and magic. Charlie crossed her arms, trying to look braver than she felt.

”So... the guy. The one Kris pushed through the tear. Did you bring him here? Why him?”

Hestia looked out into the trees, her expression ancient and tired. ”He was dying,” she said softly. ”Your world’s tear was unstable. It would have torn him apart.”

Charlie swallowed. ”So you saved him.”

”I saved what I could,” Hestia murmured. ”But he is also a witness. He has seen too much. I have cleansed him and altered his memory.”

Charlie frowned. ”You can send him back?”

Hestia turned to her. ”Yes although he will have a lapse in time. But doing so will be a moot point soon.”

A warm breeze swept through the trees, carrying the faint hum of magic. Hestia lifted her hand. The sky above them rippled like water. Two silhouettes appeared — Earth and DLO — drifting toward each other like magnets.

Charlie’s breath sighed. ”It’s really happening...”

”It has already begun,” Hestia said. ”It cannot be stopped.”

Charlie’s voice cracked. ”But—there has to be something—”

”There is,” Hestia said. ”But not to prevent it. Only to soften it.”

Charlie stared at the merging worlds, stomach twisting. ”What happens if we can’t?”

Hestia’s voice was quiet. ”Cities will shift. Land will break. Creatures will cross. Machines will fail. Magic will surge. And many... many will die.”

Charlie’s throat tightened. ”And Kris... what happens to her?”

Hestia lowered her hand. ”Kris is the only one who can guide the convergence. She is the bridge. The stabilizer. The one who can shape the merging so it does not destroy everything.”

Charlie’s eyes stung. ”She’s just a kid...”

Hestia’s expression softened with pride and sorrow. ”She is my child. And she is becoming what she was born to be.”

Charlie looked down at her hands. ”And what does that cost her?”

Hestia’s voice was barely a whisper. ”The price has been paid already.”

Charlie froze. ”What... what does that mean?”

Hestia didn’t answer. Her gaze drifted upward, toward the rippling sky, as if she were listening to something far away.

Charlie hesitated, then tried again, voice small. ”Hestia... what will it cost her? Kris... what does all of this take from her?”

This time, Hestia spoke. ”It’s not her place to pay the price.... But mine.”

Hestia lowered her hand, her expression shifting — ancient, tired, unbearably gentle.

”People in your world are beginning to notice changes in themselves,” she said softly. ”Strength where there was none. Instincts they cannot explain. Magic flickering at the edges of their senses, not to mention the physical changes.”

Charlie’s breath caught.

”And here, in this world,” Hestia continued, ”my people feel it too. Skills awakening early. Creatures behaving strangely. The land is shifting beneath their feet.”

Charlie swallowed. ”So it’s already happening.”

”It is,” Hestia said. ”And very soon, it will no longer be something only a few notice. It will become common knowledge. To both worlds. What is happening cannot be hidden any longer.”

The

Charlie stared at the ground, her fingers twisting in her shirt. ”And Kris... what happens to her?”

Hestia’s voice softened. ”She becomes what she was born to be. The bridge. The guide. The one who keeps both worlds from tearing each other apart...

Charlie’s throat tightened. ”But she’s just—she’s just Kris.”

”She is more than she knows,” Hestia said. ”And the price for her becoming that... was taken long ago. Not from her, but for her.”

Silence settled between them. The forest breathed around them. Charlie shifted her weight, fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. She opened her mouth once, then closed it. Tried again, then stopped. Her fingers twisted in her sleeve, her throat tight with words she didn’t dare say.

Hestia lowered her gaze back to her, eyes soft.

”You may speak, child,” she said gently. ”I know what sits in your heart.”

Charlie froze. ”You... you do?”

Hestia nodded. ”You fear losing your place. You fear losing her. You fear becoming small in a world that is changing too quickly.”

Charlie’s breath hitched. She looked at the ground, cheeks burning. ”I... I didn’t want to bother you. Not with everything happening. It’s stupid. I know it’s stupid.”

”It is not,” Hestia said.

Charlie swallowed hard, gathering what little courage she had left.

”It’s just... Kris is your daughter. And that’s... really cool. And she deserves that. She deserves you.”

Hestia waited.

Charlie’s voice trembled. ”And I know I’m not... I don’t really feel like her sister anymore. Not like before. Not with everything changing. Not with her becoming... whatever she’s becoming.”

Her voice cracked. ”And I don’t want to lose her. Or be left behind. Or be... less.” She tried to speak l, but couldn’t say it the words wouldn’t come out. She felt absurd for thinking it.

Hestia stepped closer.

Charlie’s voice dropped to a tiny, trembling whisper.

She winced, bracing for rejection. ”I know it’s stupid. It’s selfish. I know I’m not—”

Hestia didn’t let her finish. She placed a warm hand on Charlie’s cheek.

”Child,” she said softly, ”you have never been less.”

Charlie’s breath hitched.

Hestia’s thumb brushed Charlie’s cheekbone, warm in a way that felt older than fire itself.

”You are brave,” she repeated, softer now. ”You are loyal to a fault, and you are family.

Charlie blinked up at her, breath trembling. ”But...”

Hestia tilted her head, eyes glowing faintly with that hearth‑light that never quite went out. ”Child,” she murmured, ”did you truly think I would claim Kris and not claim you?”

Charlie froze.

”You have walked beside her for her entire life,” Hestia continued. ”Protected her. Loved her. You call her your sibling. Did you think I would not have you as well?”

Charlie’s throat tightened. ”I just... I thought maybe I didn’t count anymore. With everything changing. With her changing.”

Hestia’s expression softened into something ancient and unbearably gentle.

”You counted the moment I chose her,” she said. ”And you count still. You always will.”

Charlie’s breath hitched, a small, broken sound escaping before she could stop it. She pressed her forehead against Hestia’s shoulder, not quite hugging her, but leaning—seeking.

Hestia rested a hand on the back of her head.

”You are mine,” she said again, steady as a vow. ”Not because of blood. Because of choice. Because of your heart.”

Charlie’s eyes filled instantly. ”You mean it...?”

Hestia pulled her into a gentle embrace.

”You are mine,” she whispered. ”As surely as Kris is. You always have been.”

Charlie clung to her, shaking — not from fear, but from relief so deep it hurt. For the first time in a long time, she didn’t feel like she was losing her place.

Hestia held her a moment longer, then slowly drew back, her hands resting on Charlie’s shoulders. Her golden eyes softened, but something brighter — something older — flickered behind them.

”Charlie,” she said gently, ”look at me.”

Charlie lifted her head, eyes still wet.

Hestia raised one hand and placed two fingers lightly against the center of Charlie’s chest.

Warmth bloomed beneath her skin.

Not heat.

Not fire.

Something deeper — like a spark waking up inside her, something that had always been there but never touched, never named.

(new goddess design I like it better)

Charlie gasped softly. ”W‑what... what is that?”

”Your essence,” Hestia murmured. ”Your truth. Your place in this world and the next.”

The warmth spread through Charlie’s ribs, her throat, her fingertips — not burning, but illuminating. Like someone had lit a lantern inside her.

”You fear losing your sister,” Hestia said. ”You fear being left behind. But hear me, child.”

Her thumb brushed Charlie’s cheek.

”You are her anchor.”

Charlie blinked, stunned. ”Me...?”

”Yes,” Hestia said. ”Kris stands between worlds. She carries burdens no one her age should bear. But you—”

She pressed her fingers a little more firmly against Charlie’s chest.

”You keep her human. You keep her grounded. You remind her who she is.”

The warmth flared — a soft, golden pulse that rippled through Charlie’s whole body.

Hestia’s voice deepened, resonant and gentle all at once.

”I ignite your essence so you may stand beside her. Not behind her. Not beneath her. Beside her.”

Charlie’s breath trembled.

”You charge me with... being her sister?”

Hestia smiled — warm, proud, unshakably certain.

”I charge you with being the best sister you can be. Fierce. Loyal. Unyielding. The one who holds her hand when the world shakes.”

Charlie’s eyes filled again, but this time with something steadier — something like purpose.

”I... I can do that,” she whispered. ”I want to do that.”

Hestia cupped her face once more.

”You already are.”

Charlie leaned into her touch, the golden warmth settling inside her like a promise.

A promise she intended to keep.

I burst into the clearing, chest heaving, hair wild, eyes wide with panic and relief tangled together. It felt like I’d sprinted through half the continent

And the moment I saw Charlie, my knees nearly buckled.

”Charlie— you’re— you’re okay—”

I didn’t even let her breathe. I slammed into her, arms wrapping around her so tightly I almost knocked the air out of her lungs. I needed to feel her. Needed to know she was safe. All of the things happening around us making me more worried than normal.

She hugged me back just as fiercely. ”I’m okay. I’m right here. Calm down, you dramatic gremlin.”

I pulled back, scandalized. ”Gremlin? I ran through a forest for you!” I gestured wildly. ”AT NIGHT—”

”And tripped at least twice,” she said, brushing leaves out of my hair.

I swatted her hand away. ”I did not— okay maybe once— shut up.”

She snorted. ”Sure, sure. Heroic face‑planting.”

I groaned, but the tension in my shoulders finally loosened.

Hestia watched us with a soft smile.

Then I turned toward her — and the moment I saw her standing there, radiant and calm, something in my chest cracked open.

”Hi, Mom—”

I froze.

Charlie froze.

The forest froze.

My eyes went wide. ”I— I mean— I didn’t— that wasn’t— I didn’t mean— I mean I did but not like— I—”

Hestia’s smile warmed like sunrise.

”Hello, daughter.”

A noise escaped me that could only be described as a dying kettle.

Charlie burst out laughing. ”Oh my gods, Kris, you said it. You actually said it.”

”SHUT UP,” I squeaked, face blazing. ”I panicked!”

”You called her mom.”

”I PANICKED!”

Charlie leaned in, smirking. ”You’re adorable.”

I covered my face with both hands. ”I’m going to evaporate.”

Hestia stepped closer and gently lowered my hands from my face.

”There is no shame in truth,” she said softly. ”Only fear in speaking it.”

I swallowed hard, still pink. ”I... I didn’t mean to say it out loud.”

”But you felt it,” Hestia said.

I nodded, tiny and embarrassed.

Charlie nudged my shoulder. ”Hey. At least you didn’t trip again.”

I glared. ”I hate you.”

”No you don’t.”

”...No I don’t.” I smiled at her.

Charlie grinned and bumped her forehead against mine.

And the golden spark inside her — the one Hestia had ignited — pulsed softly, steadying the frantic storm inside my chest like a warm hand pressed to my heart.

Hestia watched us both, pride glowing in her eyes.

”You two,” she said gently, ”are stronger together than either of you realizes.”

I exhaled shakily and leaned into Charlie’s side.

She squeezed my hand.

”See?” she whispered. ”Told you I’m not going anywhere.”

My eyes softened.

”Good,” I murmured. ”Because I need you.”

She smiled.

”I know.”
