Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 1217: Chapter 1217: Dark Descent (Part 37)

At first, Chuzheng only fed one zombie and still had to chase it around. The zombie didn’t react at first. But after a day, it actually developed a bit of a special ability... something like being able to spark a small flame from its fingertips.

It’s mostly just good for being used as a lighter.

Ji Lin: ”???”

The result was the same for a few other zombies in a row. Eating ’Grain’ can grant a special ability, but it doesn’t last more than half a day.

”Hey, poker face, what exactly are you doing?”

”I need to come to a conclusion.”

”??”

Chuzheng propped her chin up: ”At first, there were no crystal cores in the zombies’ brains.”

”Yes.” Ji Lin nodded, during the first month, there was nothing inside the zombies’ heads.

Later, the zombies gradually developed crystal cores...

”The special abilities of survivors appeared after the apocalypse hit.”

Ji Lin nodded.

So?

”Don’t you think they have crystal cores because they ate humans?”

Ji Lin: ”???”

At first, zombies had no crystal cores in their brains, but like cultivating immortals, they could claim special abilities that should belong to humans and slowly condense a crystal core.

Ji Lin quickly understood what Chuzheng was saying: ”Zombies eat people indiscriminately, and different types of abilities have different colors, how can they let these abilities condense together?”

”The strong suppress the weak.” Chuzheng glanced at him, coolly said: ”Who knows...maybe the crystal cores in human brains can also absorb each other.”

Ji Lin shivered inexplicably.

The person next to him continued leisurely: ”In the future, zombies might also possess abilities.”

There’s no report yet of any zombie having special abilities.

But these zombies with crystal cores in their heads, in the future, will probably be like humans and very likely awaken special abilities.

Ji Lin: ”No, the number of zombies with crystal cores far exceeds that of human special ability users...”

Early on, many special ability users died, but in the later stages, very few did.

”Will a zombie eat alone?”

Ji Lin: ”...”

Indeed, that’s not the case.

One person is eaten by who knows how many zombies, a bite here, a bite there... A crystal core doesn’t form immediately, but as they consume more and more, they slowly accumulate a crystal core in their bodies.

Chuzheng said: ”Now there are still humans continually awakening special abilities, proving that there are potential special ability users among ordinary people, so when these people are eaten by zombies, it should make a difference too.”

The effect may not be as significant as with special ability users, but little by little, it adds up.

Zombies fuse the power of special ability users together, which humans then retrieve to use as consumables to enhance their abilities.

So these crystal cores initially belong to humans.

Zombies are merely acting as a furnace, integrating these people’s powers together.

Ji Lin swallowed, this idea is a bit crazy, yet he couldn’t refute it.

”Remember that person in City Y who could command zombies?”

”Hmm?” Why are we talking about City Y now?

”Maybe that person knew that zombie upgrades are due to special abilities, which is why they had people kill those who entered City Y; they were feeding the zombies.”

Chuzheng paused for a moment: ”Of course, this is just my guess.”

Ji Lin took a deep breath: ”If your hypothesis is correct, what do you plan to do?”

Zombie evolution is due to human special abilities...

Chuzheng dropped her hand from her chin and tapped on the car window, saying nonchalantly: ”What does that have to do with me.”

Ji Lin gave her a sidelong glance: ”If you don’t want to care, why run experiments?”

The latter suddenly snapped: ”Because I want to, can you mind your own business?”

Ji Lin: ”...”

Ji Lin was silent for a while, his eyes slightly narrowed: ”You don’t want me to mind?”

”I don’t want.”

”Well, that’s a pity, I thought you wanted to be with me.” Ji Lin smiled, starting up the car to head back.

Chuzheng: ”!!?”

”What did you just say?”

Ji Lin focused on the road: ”Since you don’t want me to mind, whatever I say isn’t important.”

Chuzheng pondered for a moment, deciding to strategically retreat first, the rest can be decided by me later, right?!

Chuzheng immediately spoke up: ”You mind! Have you agreed to be with me?”

Ji Lin didn’t look at Chuzheng, just the corners of his mouth lifted slightly.

”Is it true?”

Chuzheng insisted on a clear answer.

Ji Lin tilted his head slightly, his eyes holding a trace of amusement as he looked at her: ”Yes, happy, girlfriend?”

Chuzheng reminded him with a blank expression: ”Watch the road, boyfriend.”

Ji Lin turned back, nearly crashing into a zombie that shot out suddenly, the car swerved, sending the zombie flying.

However, what shocked Ji Lin was that the zombie that flew out hit the wall and bounced back, thudding against the car roof.

What the hell, is this for real?

Ji Lin looked up at the car roof, his nails scraping the top, the screeching sound sharp and nerve-wracking.

”Girlfriend, are you a jinx?” Ji Lin’s expression turned sour, this zombie was definitely unusual.

What kind of zombie gets knocked away and still bounces back!

Chuzheng opened the car window, and before Ji Lin could stop her, leaned out.

Bam—

The zombie crashed off the car roof, rolling to the ground. Chuzheng sent a few bolts of lightning, instantly electrocuting the zombie until it was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and motionless.

Ji Lin slammed the brakes, Chuzheng pushed open the door and got out.

Ji Lin: ”...”

What to do when your girlfriend likes charging around recklessly!!

Chuzheng kicked the zombie, which hadn’t been moving, and the moment she extended her leg, its black claw reached out sharply toward her.

Chuzheng’s eyebrows didn’t even twitch, she stepped down on its arm, pressing it down, the zombie letting out a sharp howl from its mouth.

”Strength-based.”

As Ji Lin got closer, he heard Chuzheng’s voice: ”Humans first awoke to strength-based abilities too.”

Ji Lin: ”...”

-

Chuzheng seemed to be validating her hypothesis by searching for zombies head-on.

Zombies with awakened special abilities no longer cluster together but fight alone to highlight their uniqueness.

Chuzheng found a few, all strength-based, useful early for humans, a bit useless later on.

These types of special ability users were probably the first zombies tasted...

After verifying her hypothesis, Chuzheng slowly returned to the base with no intention of doing anything about it.

”You really don’t plan to tell them?”

”I’m not the only smart person in the world.” Chuzheng shoved Lele, who had climbed onto her, off, holding him down by the chest, not allowing him to climb again: ”If I can think of it, others can too.”

Ji Lin rescued Lele from under her grasp, tossing him to the nearby injured Cheng Zuo: ”Dear girlfriend, when did you become so humble?”

”Humility is a virtue.”

”...”

I’m really believing your nonsense.

”What are you guys talking about?” Cheng Zuo looked confused: ”And...you’re dating?”

”Yep.” Chuzheng nodded.

”...”

Ji Lin didn’t want to talk and very much wanted to take it back.
