Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 1215: Chapter 1215: Dark Descent (Part 35)

Cheng Zuo regained some strength and gradually could speak.

From his mouth, they learned what was happening in that place.

After Cheng Zuo arrived at this base with others, he met a few people while taking on missions. These people were very powerful, making missions easy for them, and Cheng Zuo was naturally happy to follow them.

But unexpectedly, one day he discovered that these people were ambushing Special Ability Users outside.

They weren’t Special Ability Users bitten by zombies, but living, healthy Special Ability Users.

In the past two months, many Special Ability Users had awakened, so it was normal for them to die outside while on missions, and the disappearance of a few wouldn’t attract any attention at all.

Cheng Zuo didn’t alert them and continued to follow them.

Once, he secretly followed them back to the main camp and saw the ”Wheat” that Ji Lin and Chuzheng discovered.

He found it very strange, so he took a few grains.

But soon, those people found out about it. Cheng Zuo knew what he might go through, so he left one grain with a companion at the time.

Later, he was captured and brought back, and he had no idea what those people did to him. The place where he was scratched by a zombie was festering but didn’t worsen, and he didn’t turn into a zombie.

Afterward, people would come to draw his blood every once in a while.

Cheng Zuo tried to escape several times. Although he never got away, he learned quite a few secrets about that place.

”They... they’re researching Special Abilities,” Cheng Zuo gripped Ji Lin’s hand tightly, his nails almost digging into Ji Lin’s flesh, ”To... to let ordinary people have Special Abilities.”

As soon as he said this, the room instantly fell into dead silence.

Let ordinary people have Special Abilities?

Letting ordinary people have Special Abilities isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it could even be considered a good thing in the apocalypse.

But...

But they’re cultivating ’Wheat’ from countless Special Ability Users.

According to their plan, one grain of ’Wheat’ can let an ordinary person have Special Abilities. They claim it’s for a better future, and the sacrifices now are worth it.

What Chuzheng saw was just a small part; there are many more planted below.

”Has anyone tried those things?”

”Yes.” Cheng Zuo didn’t know Chuzheng, but since she was with Ji Lin, he didn’t ask much and just answered, ”But the effects were poor, and the person died not long after.”

So they felt those things needed to be cultivated for a bit longer.

”There are many more inside... many more...” Cheng Zuo held onto Ji Lin’s hand, eyes carrying a hint of hope, ”Save them, Ah Lin, save them...”

”I know, you rest first.”

”Save them...”

Ji Lin comforted Cheng Zuo, then came out of the room with a somewhat unpleasant expression, looking at the girl standing nearby.

”What do you think, Little Poker Face?”

Chuzheng propped her chin in thought for a long time: ”Is that thing really useful?”

Can eating this ’Wheat’ cultivated from Special Ability Users grant someone Special Abilities?

”Is that all you’re thinking about?”

Chuzheng seemed to think it was a matter of course: ”What else? Isn’t this the key issue?”

Ji Lin’s eyes narrowed slightly: ”Didn’t you hear Cheng Zuo say there are more victims inside?”

Ji Lin knew she was different from others—cold-blooded, heartless, and her thoughts were somewhat different too.

After hearing about these things, she showed no anger, only wondering if what they researched would be useful.

”Is that so.” Chuzheng didn’t care much and instead asked, ”Are you going to save them?”

Ji Lin wasn’t a great philanthropist, but he wasn’t a great villain either. Upon suddenly hearing what Cheng Zuo said, besides shock, all he felt was anger in his heart: what do those people take Special Ability Users for?

Maybe it’s because he was also a Special Ability User. If he were ordinary, Ji Lin figured he might not be so angry.

In the end...

Ji Lin glanced at Chuzheng.

Suddenly, he felt something peculiar.

He and she were the same kind of people.

Heartlessness was engraved in their bones, apathy imprinted in their souls.

”Save them.” Ji Lin smiled with his lips, collecting his cold-bloodedness and heartlessness, putting on ’kindness’ as a facade: ”Maybe I could become a hero who exposes the conspiracy.”

”They are for ordinary people.” Chuzheng calmly analyzed, ”You’ve seen the treatment between Special Ability Users and ordinary people. When there’s a chance to become Special Ability Users, you’re going to crush their wishes. Do you think they will thank you?”

Ji Lin tilted his head: ”So we’re just going to watch Special Ability Users become so-called fodder?”

”Then save them.” Chuzheng was reluctant, but for the Good Person Card, she had to do it. Saving a person... saving a group is no issue for a big shot!

Ji Lin said confidently, ”You don’t want to save them.”

”Hmm.” Chuzheng didn’t hide it: ”It’s troublesome.”

Ji Lin: ”Then why do you want to save them?”

Chuzheng replied earnestly: ”Because I think they’re pitiful.”

Ji Lin chuckled lowly: ”Do you believe that yourself?”

Chuzheng: ”Yeah.”

Ji Lin: ”...”

-

Chuzheng wouldn’t let Ji Lin interfere in this matter; she could handle it herself, but as for how precisely, Ji Lin had no idea.

Several times, Ji Lin wanted to talk with Chuzheng about this, but she mercilessly shut him out each time.

Moreover, she had Jiang Rushuang keep an eye on him and wouldn’t let him leave.

Ji Lin: ”...”

Jiang Rushuang: ”???”

I have to watch three people alone?

Chuzheng came and went early every day. Nobody knew what she was doing, and that place remained unchanged, showing no signs of activity.

Until one night, Ji Lin was on the balcony and saw several vehicles coming out from District 1, heading directly towards that place, surrounding it inside and out.

”Jiang Rushuang, do you have a telescope?”

”...”

Jiang Rushuang handed Lele to Cheng Zuo and rummaged in her Space, actually finding—a telescope? An astronomical one?

All the things in the Space had been packed by Gu He, and she’d never restocked.

...What was Gu He doing with this thing?!

Jiang Rushuang pulled out another telescope and handed it to Ji Lin.

”What are you looking at?” Jiang Rushuang asked boldly.

Ji Lin didn’t respond, just pointed in that direction. Jiang Rushuang pulled out another telescope and looked in the same direction.

Jiang Rushuang first saw Chuzheng standing on the outskirts. She leaned against a car, her posture a bit careless, as if the huge commotion in front of her had little to do with her.

A man stood beside her, approximately in his fifties, looking quite authoritative.

Jiang Rushuang didn’t recognize this man, but judging by his attire, he should be a high-ranking figure at the base.

-

Chaos erupted in less than five minutes: the Special Ability Users’ rebellion, the people’s shouts, bullets shattering glass buildings... All kinds of sounds intertwined, shattering the peace of District 2.

Searchlights illuminate that area brightly. The evil demons wanting to watch after hearing the noise were blocked by patrols on every street.

For a while, only the sounds of firefighting could be heard from that direction. Everyone scratched their heads, climbed to the nearest building, wanting to see what was happening.
