Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 1209: Chapter 1209: Dark Descent (Part 29)

”Passed.” Ji Lin saw Chuzheng still trying to push him up another floor, so he had to speak up.

Chuzheng: ”...”

Chuzheng calmly withdrew her hand, recalled the address on the door number, and turned around to find it.

Ji Lin watched Chuzheng’s back, not knowing what he was thinking, but his smile grew even brighter.

Facing Jiang Rushuang’s scrutinizing gaze, Ji Lin casually flicked his bangs and walked towards Chuzheng.

This old tube-shaped apartment building was likely used as housing by an old workplace, and each room was only about ten square meters.

But now these ten square meters were crowded with people, and the limited space was piled with all sorts of things, leaving almost no room to step.

”Looking for Da Tou? He’s not here, went to work at the base.” The person inside said impatiently.

Chuzheng took out a Crystal Core and threw it over: ”Help me call him back.”

The Crystal Core hit the person, and they immediately sat up.

Besides the speaker, the room was filled with the old, weak, sick, and disabled. Probably not familiar with the Crystal Core, they just looked on curiously.

The person grabbed the Crystal Core and ran, Chuzheng leisurely said: ”Call him back, or if you run off...”

The man shivered: ”Understood, understood.”

Chuzheng stood in the corridor looking down, Ji Lin leaned next to her, directly sitting on the balcony.

Chuzheng reached out to stop him, Ji Lin glanced down at her, Chuzheng immediately retracted her hand and looked at the distance nonchalantly.

”Little Poker Face, are you afraid I’ll fall?”

Chuzheng replied irritably: ”If you fall, I’ll have to clean up your corpse.”

Ji Lin stepped on some cabinet without clear purpose, striking a handsome pose: ”Hey, looks like I don’t have to worry about having no one to send me off.”

Chuzheng: ”...”

Is this Good Person Card taking advantage of me?

Who wants to send him off!

Ji Lin curiously asked Chuzheng: ”Do you have any thoughts on my liking boys?”

Chuzheng seriously sought guidance: ”Should I have a thought?” Should I change my sexuality? The apocalypse doesn’t support it!

Ji Lin: ”I have a boyfriend, and you still fancy me, isn’t that a bit too much?”

Chuzheng responded nonchalantly: ”Soon you won’t have one.”

Ji Lin: ”...”

”Cheng Zuo is my childhood friend.” Possibly truly fearing Chuzheng might do something, Ji Lin stopped joking: ”We were in the same school, he blocked a knife for me, I owe him a life.”

His family is nothing for him to worry about, either high-ranking or technical people, family members receive special treatment, the first to be protected was their group—although he wasn’t very close with his family.

Not sure if his family regretted sending him so far away.

But Cheng Zuo is different...

His family faced some troubles in the past, and all their support collapsed.

Ji Lin had a lot of fair-weather friends around him in the past, but genuinely cared about Cheng Zuo as a brother.

-

Jiang Rushuang found a place to sit down, looked up at the pair over there.

The man bowed his head slightly, looking at the girl beside him, corner of his lips smiling, seemingly very gentle.

Not knowing what they were talking about, the image of them standing amidst the ruins conveyed a touch of warmth.

While Jiang Rushuang was lost in thought, Da Tou was called back.

”Looking for me?”

Da Tou’s head was indeed large... befitting his name.

His physique was sturdy, expression fierce, words rough, the entire corridor seemed to echo with his voice.

His eyes clearly showed vigilance and wariness.

Ji Lin jumped down, dusted himself off, and with a raised brow, scrutinized Da Tou: ”We issued a task at the base before, you mentioned having news about Cheng Zuo, right?”

Upon hearing this, Da Tou nodded: ”You’re the ones who issued the task?”

”Uh-huh.” Ji Lin presented the proof from the task hall: ”What news do you have?”

Da Tou carefully looked at it, scratched his head, possibly dropping his guard, suddenly appearing a bit honest: ”Cheng Zuo was someone I met on the road. He was bitten by a zombie.”

Ji Lin’s expression changed immediately: ”Then what?”

Da Tou and Cheng Zuo escaped together, precisely headed to the nearest base. However, not long after they arrived, because the small base’s inspection wasn’t strict, people who were bitten mixed in, causing the entire base to fall.

They had to keep moving, escaping from that small base along with many others, and then arrived here. Cheng Zuo had a Special Ability, so they didn’t separate after arriving, just took tasks together at the base.

During one mission, Cheng Zuo was scratched by zombies.

Cheng Zuo, having a Special Ability, actually lasted longer than normal people after being scratched.

However, even so, Cheng Zuo couldn’t prevent turning into a zombie. Later, he distracted zombies to let them escape... now, he’s either turned into a zombie or died.

Ji Lin’s face looked grim.

Before finding Cheng Zuo, he had already considered this possibility. But really hearing such news, Ji Lin suddenly didn’t know how to face it.

Da Tou continued: ”He left something for me, said if I met someone named Ji Lin, to give it to him.”

Ji Lin’s voice was hoarse, urgently asked: ”What thing?”

Da Tou glanced at Ji Lin, didn’t respond.

”I am Ji Lin.” Ji Lin showed the Temporary ’Identity Card’ from the base: ”What did Cheng Zuo leave you?”

Da Tou hesitated for a moment: ”Wait a minute.”

Da Tou went inside to search, quickly returned, and handed him a velvet bag that seemed to hold jewelry: ”Just this.”

Ji Lin took it, fingers trembling slightly as he opened it, a red seed lay quietly inside, thumb-sized, shaped like an oat.

Ji Lin turned the whole bag over, but aside from this seed, there was nothing else inside.

Seed...

What kind of seed is this?

Oats?

Where are there red oats? Oats aren’t this big either...

Ji Lin: ”What kind of seed is this?”

Da Tou shook his head: ”I don’t know.”

”Did he say anything else?”

”No, he just told me to give this to you if I met you.”

A seed of unknown purpose, Cheng Zuo saved their lives, so Da Tou kept it all along.

Until he saw someone looking for Cheng Zuo that day in the task hall.

Ji Lin couldn’t understand why Cheng Zuo would leave this thing for him.

He leaned against the balcony, emotions accumulating, nowhere to vent.

Chuzheng settled the Crystal Core payment for Da Tou, Da Tou received his reward, completed the task given to him, and left immediately.

In the apocalypse, everyone minds their own business, no one wants to meddle.

-

On the way back, Ji Lin continuously stared at the seed, his face showing neither joy nor sorrow, completely still, as if frozen.

Ji Lin’s fingertips repeatedly turned the seed, wondering what message Cheng Zuo wanted to leave him?

Chuzheng understood Ji Lin just learned about Cheng Zuo, probably struggling to process it, so she stayed silent, taking him back to his room, asking Jiang Rushuang to watch over him, then drove away.
