Let’s Squander A Billion First!

Chapter 1211: Chapter 1211: Dark Descent (31)

Ji Lin was holding a seed, while Chuzheng had just seen a grain.

Since the apocalypse hit, all the crops have died. Not just crops, they say even plants are starting to wither, and if this continues, the whole world will eventually become desertified.

And nothing can be grown now; being able to germinate a seed is already a miracle.

In this shed, there’s actually a patch of wheat.

And it’s red!!

Chuzheng decided to go in and take a look. With the Good Person Card holding that seed, he definitely won’t rest until he gets to the bottom of it.

There are people watching everywhere here, with patrols passing by from time to time and electrified fences blocking the way. Chuzheng waited until it was dark to make her move.

With Yin Xian, she could manipulate things much easier. While those people were gathered chatting, Chuzheng quickly slipped into the shed.

The things inside were even more shocking than what Chuzheng had seen outside.

This was goddamn a field of Mary Sue-colored wheat!

They weren’t just red; there were also blue, green, purple, golden...

At a glance, it was almost like seeing a rainbow.

Wheat comes in so many colors?

In the apocalypse, even wheat has to grow differently?! These wheat have some ideas, huh!

Thankfully, there weren’t many of them, only about three rows of each color. Chuzheng didn’t see anyone around, so she reached out and plucked a bunch of grain.

Compared to what Ji Lin had, the grains on this stalk were larger and of a deeper color...

For example, what Ji Lin had was just forming, while this was already mature.

Beep beep beep——

Suddenly, an alarm sounded in the shed.

Chuzheng was startled and heard footsteps approaching from inside. She swiftly slipped away.

”Where did it run off to?”

”Hurry and find it!”

Faint voices came from behind, and after a moment’s thought, Chuzheng decidedly left the place and returned to Zone 3.

Ji Lin was leaning by the window eating snacks, and Lele was crawling around on a mat. Jiang Rushuang was doing something in the room. When Chuzheng returned, she stuck her head out: ”Xiao Chu, you’re back.”

”Mm.”

”Were you alright?”

”I’m fine.”

”I thought you got detained.” Ji Lin turned his head to look at her, popped two jelly beans into his mouth, and smiled with a hint of mischief: ”I was just considering whether to rescue you... What are you holding in your hand?”

Chuzheng tossed the item over.

Ji Lin took one look and knew what it was. He dug out the one Cheng Zuo had given him for comparison, and apart from the color and size, the rest were identical.

”Where did you find it?”

”Zone 2.”

-

Chuzheng didn’t plan to hide anything from Ji Lin and told him what she had seen in Zone 2.

”What do you think this is?”

”No idea.” Chuzheng took a sip of water and said slowly, ”Why don’t you try it?”

Ji Lin: ”...”

Is her real intention to kill me?

They both stared at each other for a moment, and Lele somehow crawled over, hugging Ji Lin’s leg. Ji Lin tried to push him away to free his foot.

Who knew the little brat was aiming to bite?

Ji Lin hurriedly picked him up, and the little brat started gnawing on his arm.

Ji Lin: ”...”

Seeing Ji Lin trying to pass the hot potato, Chuzheng decisively put down her cup and swiftly retreated: ”Tomorrow, we’ll try to gather some information. Let’s sleep now.”

”???” That’s it? Nothing came out of the chat, and you’re just leaving!! ”You’re going to sleep just like that?”

Can you even sleep!

”Or should we sit here until dawn and magically know the answer?” Chuzheng not only could sleep but would sleep soundly.

-

Chuzheng had Crystal Cores, making it easy for her to gather information.

She quickly figured out the situation in Zone 2.

Most of Zone 2 is involved in research, but it’s not like in movies or novels, where everyone is gathered in one place.

There’s a main base here, set up by the head of the base, with top talents inside. But they are divided into different teams, each researching different directions. Their teams also work on their projects, and territories are distinctly divided.

”I recall someone in your family is also into research. Could they be here?” Jiang Rushuang cautiously asked Ji Lin.

”They’re at the Southern Base.” Ji Lin bit on a lollipop, speaking casually as if he didn’t care about his family: ”There’s no way they’d come here.”

”Aren’t you worried?”

”...” Ji Lin chuckled: ”Not worried, what’s there to worry about? As long as they don’t court death or have bad luck and turn into zombies, they’ll be fine.”

If they court death, there’s nothing that can be done.

Turning into zombies is irreversible, also no solution.

So he really had nothing to worry about.

The area Chuzheng mentioned seems to be led by a Professor Gan, whose team is mainly researching the current situation, specifically if crops can survive.

Once the available resources are exhausted, it’ll be another desperate situation, so it’s necessary to research this, and the base supports it.

However, whether there are results or not only Professor Gan’s team knows.

”I don’t think this is a good thing.” Ji Lin squeezed the item in his hand and raised an eyebrow at Chuzheng: ”What do you think, little stone face?”

Ji Lin had a smile on his face, but his eyes were cold.

Chuzheng, with overwhelming boldness: ”Whether it’s a good thing or not, we’ll find out by asking.”

”How to ask?” Ji Lin nodded toward that direction: ”Didn’t you hear them say that area is off-limits?”

The zones are separated with checkpoints, and moving from Zone 3 to Zone 2 requires passing two checkpoints.

The base is full of electric fences, making it nearly impossible to sneak in.

Chuzheng pulled out a card and slapped it on the table.

The card clearly read ’Zone 2 Pass.’

”Where did you get that? Stole it? Or robbed it?”

Good Person Card’s kind of thinking!

Am I that kind of person?

Can a big shot say they stole it?!

”Bought it. Not only researchers live in Zone 2.”

There are also capable ”Rich People,” and she might not have anything else, but she has a lot of Crystal Cores.

-

With the pass, it was easy to enter Zone 2.

Jiang Rushuang was left behind, only Chuzheng and Ji Lin went in.

”Zone 2 has more patrols than I expected.” Ji Lin and Chuzheng walked along, with patrol teams passing by from time to time, each equipped with weapons.

Ji Lin calculated the time, almost encountering one every five minutes, with varying numbers.

”Look at these people, while survivors outside have no place to live, yet they can occupy such a large territory.” Ji Lin said mockingly: ”Little stone face, do you think there’s fairness in this world?”

Chuzheng scanned the street that was as clean as before the apocalypse and said slowly, ”There’s no absolute fairness.”

Ji Lin seemed to have found a kindred spirit: ”You think so too? There’s no such thing as absolute fairness in this world.”

Chuzheng didn’t speak, just looked toward the innermost part of Zone 1.

Most people, like the survivors in Zone 6, just want to live, but they don’t want to contribute or sacrifice, yet they still expect fair treatment.

Some people lack capability, while others are simply afraid and don’t dare to take up weapons.

When they see others living better or having more strength, they fall into endless jealousy, blaming the heavens and the earth, crying unfairness, but never looking at their own shortcomings.
