Chapter 544 -544: Difficult to be a Hostage (39)

After Lian Qiong ascended the throne as the Emperor and reached the pinnacle of his life,

Chuzheng discovered that the time she could kiss Lian Qiong had actually decreased.

Either she was asleep when he came back, or someone would suddenly interrupt them halfway through a kiss, asking him to attend to political matters.

Late at night, Chuzheng felt very irritated and pinned Lian Qiong down, not allowing him to move.

“I am the pressing matter!” With her knee against the hot spot on Lian Qiong’s body, he gasped, and his eyes that had been somewhat hazy instantly became much clearer, reflecting the woman’s calm and serious face.

Lian Qiong: “…”

If people found out that their Emperor was held down like this, it would be the end of him.

“I won’t go …” said Lian Qiong, “But you must let me be on top.”

He could never forget the resolve that had driven him to his position.

After some consideration, Chuzheng let him go: “Go then.”

Lian Qiong: “…”

Outside, someone urged him on.

Lian Qiong did indeed want to stay; he was quite uncomfortable, but urged on from the outside, he quickly put on his clothes, kissed Chuzheng, and said, “Wait for me, don’t sleep.”

Ha!

Just sleep!

Chuzheng not only slept but also locked the door.

The next day, the Palace Attendants were all saying that His Majesty had to climb through the window to get in.

The Empress really didn’t regard His Majesty at all, was arrogant because of her favored status, yet His Highness doted on her so much.

The following day, as Chuzheng looked at the marks on her body, she thought how forceful that little thing had been … She hadn’t finished dressing when Lian Qiong came over with a dark face, took off her low-collared dress, and changed it for a high-necked one.

“It’s hot,” Chuzheng complained.

“I’ll have someone bring you ice,” said Lian Qiong. “You are not allowed to show it.”

“Why not?”

“… Just not allowed.”

Chuzheng was immediately unhappy and took it off, putting the previous one back on.

Lian Qiong: “…”

His words were of no use at all.

Lian Qiong held her and coaxed, “Don’t wear that one, I don’t want others to see those marks.”

“You’re the one who made them,” Chuzheng said with a cold face. “If you hadn’t been so forceful, those marks wouldn’t have been left.”

She spoke as if it were the most natural thing.

As if those marks were not the result of their intimate moments, but just normal wear and tear.

Instead, it made Lian Qiong, who had been slightly embarrassed in his heart, feel bashful.

Lian Qiong insisted: “Just not allowed. My love, my lady, my wife …”

Chuzheng wouldn’t listen and sent a bunch of petitions to Lian Qiong to shut him up.

But Chuzheng also did not go out.

Still, for this matter, Lian Qiong practiced archery alone for three days.

He lost interest on the fourth day.

The newly constructed archery range in the palace was immediately to be dismantled.

Chen Fei was tired.

Why couldn’t His Majesty’s hobbies last a little longer … No, there was one hobby of His Majesty’s that had persisted for quite some time.

That was the Empress.

He just wished that His Majesty’s other hobbies could be as enduring as that.

“Greetings to the Empress.”

Chen Fei, bearing a pile of things that almost covered his face, walked up close before he could see Chuzheng.

“What are you holding?”

“Uh … These are things sent over from the palace where His Majesty previously stayed, I have to show them to His Majesty to see how they should be handled.” These things were all in a mess, and he didn’t dare to just throw them away; if His Majesty asked for them later, he would be in trouble again.

“What is that?”

Chen Fei strained to look in the direction Chuzheng was looking.

“This is something His Majesty carved when studying woodcarving … Speaking of which, this carving resembles the Empress a bit, though it’s dressed as a man …”

Chuzheng took out the wood carving.

It was only half-finished.

The face was carved out, but the clothing was far from complete.

Chen Fei saw Chuzheng examining it closely and thought she must have been touched by His Majesty’s gesture.

However, Chuzheng looked up and held up the carving earnestly, “How does this look like me?”

Chen Fei: “…”

Doesn’t it look like me?

This expression, these eyes and eyebrows, aren’t they all similar? They completely resemble me!

Your Majesty had thrown this away before, but then ran out to find it back in the middle of the night.

At that time, he thought that Your Majesty hadn’t given up on carving, but the next day, he didn’t see you touch it again.

Chuzheng took the wooden carving into the Imperial Study while a Minister was reporting.

Lian Qiong was sitting behind the dragon desk, head down, reviewing memorials, not noticing Chuzheng’s entrance. The Minister stopped talking first, glancing at Chuzheng who seated herself to the side, swallowing hard.

This Empress…

She’s quite the individualist.

When His Majesty decided to appoint her as Empress, many were opposed.

After all, there was suspicion that she could be a Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing from Wei Country.

Not only that, she had been disguising herself as a man…

Of course, Wei Country was no more, so pursuing the matter of her cross-dressing seemed pointless.

But, how could someone from Wei Country become the Empress of Jin Country?

However, Lian Qiong insisted on appointing Chuzheng as Empress.

Creating such tension right after ascending the throne was not conducive to future work.

After Chuzheng sent ‘gifts’ to each family, no one dared to oppose her anymore.

They were scared, very scared.

They thought this Empress had ambitions…

Later, they realized she had none at all!

This Empress spent her days indulging in eating and drinking. Although she often visited the Imperial Study, she never interfered with state affairs or joined their discussions, simply sitting quietly aside, drinking tea, and reading.

“Why have you stopped speaking?”

The Minister came back to his senses and hastily bowed his head to continue the topic.

However, after only two words, the person in front said with a wave of his hand, “Leave for now.”

Minister: “…”

I haven’t finished speaking!

Your Majesty, this isn’t acceptable!!

But what could the Minister do? He could only retreat.

Lian Qiong stood up, the bright yellow Dragon Robe making him look even more handsome and imposing, a true Emperor’s aura enveloping him.

Yet, when this exceptionally handsome Emperor approached the woman, he suddenly seemed to become a different person.

“Why have you come to see me?” The young Emperor took the woman’s hand and kissed it, “Are you worried that your husband is working too hard?”

Chuzheng tapped the table with her other hand: “This.”

Lian Qiong looked towards the wooden carving on the table.

First shocked, then a flicker of awkwardness crossed his features.

“Is this me?”

Lian Qiong looked around uncertainly: “Ah… yes… I suppose it is.”

Chuzheng’s expression turned serious.

Lian Qiong cleared his throat: “This is me… carved when I was bored… At that time, I thought of you… Well, not that I was… Anyways, it was just boredom.”

Chuzheng’s expression grew even more serious.

“Alright, let’s just say I had my eye on you then,” Lian Qiong said pleadingly.

Chuzheng pointed at the wooden carving, “In what way does this resemble me?!”

Was it her who couldn’t appreciate the carving artistry here, or was she seeing something different from what these people saw?

Could a wooden carving reveal it was her?

Was she that cheap?!

“Ah?”

Lian Qiong paused.

Wasn’t she asking why he carved her?

“It resembles you in every way,” Lian Qiong pointed at the wooden carving, “Look at these eyes, this nose, this mouth…”

Chuzheng: “…”

“Hey, why are you walking away?”

The young Emperor followed with the wooden carving.

The Palace Attendants were not surprised at all.

“Wait for me to finish carving it, will you? Slow down, wait for me…”
