Chapter 527: Chapter 527: Difficult to be a Hostage (22)

The rain stopped, but Lian Qiong still hadn’t awakened.

Chuzheng then picked up the person, “Let’s go down the mountain.”

“Thirteenth Prince, let me do it.”

“No need.”

Chen Fei: “…”

Chen Fei glanced at Lian Qiong but ultimately didn’t forcibly take him, leading Chuzheng down the mountain path.

Walking on the bluestone-paved mountain path, Chuzheng silently added another mark to her mental “Good Person Card” for the King’s Account.

The damned thing was definitely avoiding her!

The mountain path was somewhat steep, and Chen Fei would turn around every few steps, deeply afraid that Chuzheng might drop his Family Head.

After all, the Thirteenth Prince appeared to be as delicate as a gust of wind could blow him away.

His Highness was still somewhat heavy…

“What is that place?”

Chen Fei, with a head full of thoughts, was startled by Chuzheng’s voice.

He looked in the direction Chuzheng was gazing and saw a tombstone built on the other side of the mountain path.

“That is the mausoleum of the Thirteenth Prince’s mother,” Chen Fei said.

“Shouldn’t she be in the Imperial Mausoleum?” After all, a concubine of her rank had the right to be interred there.

“Consort Xiao hanged herself…” Chen Fei shook his head: “She couldn’t be placed in the Imperial Mausoleum, so in the end, the Thirteenth Prince took Consort Xiao out and buried her here.”

Chen Fei also remembered that today was the anniversary of Consort Xiao’s death when he realized that Lian Qiong was missing.

These days he had also been so busy that he had completely forgotten about it.

Chuzheng didn’t ask any further and carried Lian Qiong down the mountain.

–

Lian Qiong woke up in the middle of the night, with only a single oil lamp in the room, creating a hazy ambience.

He raised his hand to his forehead, eased himself for a bit, and as his vision gradually cleared, he stiffly turned over.

“Your Highness, you’ve awakened,” Chen Fei said, hurrying over when he heard movement.

“How did I get back?” Lian Qiong’s voice was hoarse.

“…The Thirteenth Prince carried you down.”

“I didn’t realize he was so strong,” Lian Qiong chuckled, pushing himself up to sit: “Is he alright?”

“The Thirteenth Prince is fine; he’s already resting.” The one with troubles is you! What on earth are you thinking! “Your Highness, you have a bit of a fever, I’ll go fetch your medicine.”

“Hmm.

Chen Fei went to fetch the brewed medicine and helped Lian Qiong drink it.

“Has the rain stopped?” Lian Qiong asked.

“It has stopped,” Chen Fei passed him some candied fruit.

Lian Qiong picked two pieces to put in his mouth, his eyes and eyebrows tinted with a gentle smile: “If I can’t watch the sunset, at least I can watch the sunrise, right, Chen Fei?”

“Your Highness?” Chen Fei frowned: “What exactly are you planning to do? The Thirteenth Prince has a fondness for handsome men, how can you…”

“Isn’t it perfect that he likes handsome men? Your prince happens to be a man.”

“Your Highness!”

“Chen Fei, he is Wei Country’s Hostage.” Lian Qiong turned serious: “Wei Country is now militarily strong and has always been incompatible with Jin Country; siding with him is beneficial and harmless to us.”

“Your Highness, even so, you don’t need to test things out yourself, right? And how do you know he will be of use to you?”

“If he loves me, he will,” Lian Qiong said: “Love can make a person blind, can’t it?”

“Your Highness…” Chen Fei hesitated, then made a firm decision: “Your Highness, forgive my boldness, but do you truly regard the Thirteenth Prince merely as a tool to be used?”

Lian Qiong was taken aback: “Why do you say that?”

“Your Highness, think about your recent actions.”

Chen Fei touched upon the matter then bowed and left the room.

Lian Qiong’s gaze fell on the void, and after a long while, he chuckled softly: “Otherwise, what? Could it be possible that I could actually fall in love with a man?”

Lian Qiong lay back down.

Tossing and turning on the bed.

He could no longer sleep.

The face flashed inexplicably through his mind.

Lian Qiong furrowed his brows, reached under himself, his expression one of suppressed conflict, which then turned to anger.

–

Knock knock…

Knock knock knock knock…

The person on the bed turned over, a cascade of black hair spreading beneath them, with half their face buried in the covers, only their exquisitely crafted eyebrows and eyes visible.

Knock, knock, knock…

A pair of eyes suddenly opened.

A cold gaze with a hint of chill, sharp as a blade, shot towards the door.

Who the hell is knocking on my door in the middle of the night!

The knocking continued, and Chuzheng hurled the pillow in her hand towards it.

The door crashed loudly from the impact.

Chuzheng did a roll, rolling inside, and continued to sleep.

The knocking paused only for a moment before resuming.

Having thrown a pillow away, Chuzheng had nothing left to throw.

She sat up with a swoosh.

Damn it!

Chuzheng threw on her clothes and stormed over to open the door.

Outside, the man leaned against the doorway, intermittently knocking. The moment Chuzheng opened the door, one knock almost hit her in the face.

Lian Qiong immediately stood up straight, calling out with a smile, “Thirteenth Prince.”

His eyes landed on Chuzheng, whose clothes and hair were a bit disheveled, which surprisingly softened her cold distant aura a bit.

Chuzheng’s face showed indifference, “Why aren’t you sleeping at this late hour and knocking on my door?!”

Lian Qiong politely invited her, “Since you missed the sunset, may I have the honor to ask the Thirteenth Prince to watch the sunrise with me?”

“No, I’m not going.” Chuzheng made a move to close the door.

Lian Qiong immediately put his hand in.

The door stopped just as it was about to press on his hand.

“Thirteenth Prince, since you’re already here, it would be a shame not to watch,” Lian Qiong gripped Chuzheng’s wrist, “Don’t you want to watch the sunrise with me?”

“I don’t want to.”

I want to sleep!

“It’ll be light soon.” Lian Qiong pulled Chuzheng out, “If the Thirteenth Prince doesn’t go, I’ll have to go alone. It’s dark and dangerous on the mountain, and if something were to happen to me…”

Unable to bear his nagging, Chuzheng waved her hand dismissively, “Go.”

Lian Qiong smiled, his fingertips delicately brushed her hand before drawing back.

Chuzheng felt nothing and straightforwardly slipped on her coat.

Lian Qiong: “…”

–

The path up the mountain was difficult to make out in the pitch-dark, and Lian Qiong followed Chuzheng, one in front of the other.

At the mountaintop, there seemed to be a Taoist drawing essence from the sun and moon, with a platform set up complete with stone benches and a table.

Chuzheng didn’t stand on ceremony and sat down as soon as she reached it.

The corner of Lian Qiong’s mouth twitched as he sat next to her.

There was still some time before dawn, and stars could still be seen in the sky.

The mountain breeze swept through, and Lian Qiong couldn’t help but sneeze.

Chuzheng glanced at him, “Instead of sleeping below, you had to come up here to catch the wind.”

The underlying message was probably—serves you right.

Lian Qiong rubbed his slightly itchy nose, “Thirteenth Prince, since we’re here, it’d be a pity not to watch.”

“The sunrise happens every day.”

“But each one is different.”

“Rises from the west, does it?”

Lian Qiong chuckled, winked at her, “You’ll see.”

Chuzheng: “…”

The wind grew stronger, and he sneezed several times in a row.

Annoyed by the sound, Chuzheng took off her coat and threw it at him, “Put it on.”

“Thirteen…”

“Put it on,” Chuzheng’s frosty gaze swept over, “I don’t want to carry you down again.” You’re so heavy!

Chuzheng held back from voicing that out loud.

Can’t insult the Good Person Card!

Must be nice to the Good Person Card!

Must praise the Good Person Card!

Chuzheng mentally recited the Good Person Card principles.

Lian Qiong held the garment, lost in thought for a moment, then shook it out and draped it over himself. A faint cold fragrance assaulted him.
