Invincible Soul Emperor

Chapter 313: Chapter 313: The Know-It-All’s Miscalculation

Tears swirled in Xiao Xiao’s beautiful eyes. She smelled a familiar scent and saw Ye Qingchen’s face; it felt like a dream. She clung tightly to him, determined to hold on even if this was a dream, never to let go again.

Ye Qingchen felt Xiao Xiao’s weakness, yet her arms held him with surprising strength, as if she feared that loosening her grip would mean losing him forever. Anguish and remorse filled his heart.

Ye Qingchen embraced Xiao Xiao tightly as well. ”Xiao Xiao, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” he said. ”I should never have said those words. I was wrong!”

Ye Qingchen truly regretted his actions. Xiao Xiao was still just a child. Although she was now a Ninth-Layer expert of the Martial Spirit Realm, she still needed to rely on him. He was her only kin, her sole emotional support, yet he had hurt her with his words. It was absolutely inexcusable.

Xiao Xiao replied weakly, ”Young Master, as long as you still want me, then nothing I do will feel like a hardship.”

”Hahahaha! What a touching scene of deep affection. Excellent, excellent!” An incongruous voice interrupted them. Wanshitong approached on his short legs, swaggering forward with a horde of demons in tow to confront Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao.

”You?” Ye Qingchen asked, his gaze watchful. He quickly pieced the situation together. Wanshitong, an Eighth-Layer Martial Spirit Realm expert, must have been overcome with greed when he saw Xiao Xiao take out more than 10,000 low-grade Spirit Stones, compelling him to arrange this ambush. In Wanshitong’s eyes, I’m just a Fifth-Layer cultivator and not worth his attention, but Xiao Xiao’s Ninth-Layer cultivation made him wary. He must have anticipated I would come looking for the Yellow Skin Demon King and laid a poison trap along the path. Once I arrived and inhaled the toxin, my Spiritual Energy would dissipate, leaving me at his mercy.

What Wanshitong hadn’t expected was for Xiao Xiao to arrive first by herself. But it didn’t matter; his original intent was to poison her anyway.

As for Ye Qingchen... it might be a minor inconvenience, but with my Eighth-Layer Martial Spirit Realm strength and a host of lesser demons, what kind of trouble could he possibly cause?

Thinking this, Wanshitong looked at Ye Qingchen and Xiao Xiao with disdain and said, ”You two humans dare to trespass on our Demon Race’s territory. You seem ignorant of the adage that bearing a treasure invites disaster. Today, I shall teach you both a proper lesson!”

After speaking, Wanshitong ordered his underlings to split into two groups: one to deal with the defenseless Xiao Xiao and the other to join him in killing Ye Qingchen.

Ye Qingchen’s brow furrowed. Xiao Xiao couldn’t circulate her Spiritual Energy and had no combat strength. He immediately activated his Martial Soul ability, Willow Curtain Drooping Green, enveloping her in a green protective Shield. Then, he rose to his feet to face Wanshitong.

Fearing for Xiao Xiao’s safety, Ye Qingchen’s first move was the Earth Rank Martial Technique, Leaf Blade Storm. The technique was perfect for group combat. Countless Leaf Blades fanned out, hurtling toward Wanshitong and his minions.

The demons ordered to kill Xiao Xiao were shocked. No matter how they attacked, they couldn’t breach the green protective Shield and could only watch in helpless frustration. Meanwhile, inside the Shield, Xiao Xiao was gradually coming to her senses and quickly consumed a Spirit Pill to expel the poison from her body.

Wanshitong was horrified. These Leaf Blades were getting through everywhere! He could barely defend himself, but his lesser demons weren’t so lucky. The Leaf Blades relentlessly swept through them. In just two minutes, some could no longer hold on and were struck down, falling dead to the ground.

Wanshitong had never imagined that this inconspicuous Ye Qingchen could be so formidable. With only the strength of the Fifth Layer of the Martial Spirit Realm, he was easily handling an ambush by an Eighth-Layer expert and a group of lower-level demons. In fact, he was overwhelmingly suppressing them!

After swallowing the Spirit Pill, although the poison wasn’t completely gone, Xiao Xiao slowly recovered some Spiritual Power and was able to barely stand.

With a single Leaf Blade Storm, Ye Qingchen had killed every lesser demon attacking him, leaving only Wanshitong!

Wanshitong had sustained some minor injuries, but Ye Qingchen didn’t press his advantage. Instead, he brandished his Qingfeng Sword and used Mystifying Steps to rush back to Xiao Xiao’s side. His blade danced, emitting streaks of sword light that cut down all in its path, accompanied by a chorus of screams. He was unstoppable! He slaughtered every demon that had been trying to shatter the green Shield of the Willow Curtain Drooping Green.

Wanshitong swallowed hard. In less than three minutes since I ordered the attack, I’ve been reduced to a commander with no troops! And this was all done by the Fifth-Layer Martial Spirit Realm cultivator in front of me. How could I have been so blind as to think he was an easy target?

After dealing with the lesser demons, Ye Qingchen walked toward Wanshitong, Qingfeng Sword in hand.

Wanshitong was now so frightened he had lost all will to fight. He wanted to run, but after witnessing Ye Qingchen’s speed, he knew that escape was futile. Ye Qingchen would easily catch him. With this realization, Wanshitong dropped to his knees with a THUD and pleaded, ”Young Master, spare my life! Please! I was momentarily confused and committed this despicable act. I beg you, spare me just this once!”

Ye Qingchen hadn’t expected a Martial Spirit Realm expert to have so little dignity. Disgust rose within him. Moreover, Wanshitong had dared to harm Xiao Xiao. This crossed a line Ye Qingchen would not allow anyone to touch, and he had already decided to kill him.

Seeing his pleas were having no effect, Wanshitong hastily pulled a medicine bottle from his clothes and continued to beg, ”Young Master, this is the antidote. I’m willing to hand it over, I just ask for your mercy this once.”

Ye Qingchen snorted disdainfully. ”I am a fourth-rank Alchemist myself. Do I need your antidote? You dared to plot against Xiao Xiao. You must die!”

Hearing this, a shiver went down Wanshitong’s spine as he frantically tried to think of a way to persuade Ye Qingchen to let him go.

Xiao Xiao, however, was deeply moved. The normally gentle Ye Qingchen was thundering with rage on her behalf. Her young master had always cared about her so much.

By now, Xiao Xiao had recovered enough to move. Still protected by the green Shield, she approached Ye Qingchen and said, ”Young Master, don’t kill him yet.”

Ye Qingchen was taken aback, but he still nodded.

Xiao Xiao took two steps forward and said to Wanshitong, ”Are you willing to become my pet? If you do, you won’t have to die today. But you must sign a Soul Contract with me.”

Wanshitong shivered involuntarily at the mention of the Soul Contract. If I sign it, I’ll have to obey her completely. With a single thought, she could annihilate my Divine Soul, leaving me deader than dead! Moreover, if Xiao Xiao were to die, I, as a slave bound by the Soul Contract, would suffer the same fate, deader than dead!
