Chapter 918: Chapter 914: Playing Along with the Act

Adison Claire was just about to seize this rare and brief moment to close her eyes and pretend to sleep, when she suddenly became aware of Xiang Yiting’s unusual behavior. Instantly she regained her alertness and hurriedly asked, ”What’s wrong with you?”

However, Xiang Yiting couldn’t utter a single word, only releasing heavy, raspy breaths from her throat. Under the moonlight, her face displayed a ghastly pallor, giving off an ominous and chilling appearance.

Before long, Xiang Yiting began to experience hallucinations; her mind became increasingly muddled. Unable to hold on any longer, she tilted her head and fainted.

This phenomenon scared Adison Claire out of her wits. She couldn’t understand why Xiang Yiting was perfectly fine a moment ago, yet less than three minutes later had fainted. The abruptness of the change caught anyone off guard.

As she vigorously shook Xiang Yiting’s shoulders, Adison Claire anxiously scanned her surroundings. The incessant chirping of crickets in the grass reached her ears, and cold sweat began to form on her forehead.

Adison Claire put her hand under Xiang Yiting’s nose and found that her breathing was extremely weak, barely noticeable as if it could stop at any second. Her heartbeat was also much slower than that of a normal person.

These signs clearly told Adison Claire that Xiang Yiting was now in mortal danger, leaving her anxious and unable to devise a solution. She didn’t dare administer any aid recklessly, afraid it might backfire and harm Xiang Yiting further.

Suddenly, Adison Claire remembered the wound on her abdomen, leading her naturally to think of Xiao Tian, making her feel a faint sense of determination.

Although she wasn’t sure if Xiao Tian knew any medical skills, in her current desperation, she could only turn to Xiao Tian for help. Otherwise, she would have to watch Xiang Yiting die before her eyes.

Adison Claire asked herself honestly; she was truly grateful to Xiang Yiting. Without Xiang Yiting’s visit, she wouldn’t have met Xiao Tian. If she hadn’t met Xiao Tian, she would still be under the Water Drop Organization’s control, living a life devoid of sunlight.

Therefore, whether out of gratitude or something else, Adison Claire couldn’t possibly stand by and watch Xiang Yiting die without doing anything!

Having thought this through, Adison Claire used all her strength to place Xiang Yiting on a small patch of open ground. She then quickly gathered some branches and green grass to conceal her figure, marked the spot, and ran towards the back without looking back...

...

”Wait a minute, I—I didn’t mean it that way.”

The tall and sturdy man, watching Xiao Tian speeding ahead, felt he’d never seen anyone run so fast. He had used his Forbidden Technique twice, yet still couldn’t close the gap between them, and was gradually falling behind.

Upon hearing the voice coming from behind, Xiao Tian glanced sideways and saw the expert who was hell-bent on perishing with him now sitting on the ground like a dead dog, panting heavily.

Moreover, that extremely dangerous aura had vanished from his body, indicating he no longer intended to launch a suicidal attack.

Feeling relatively safe at this distance, Xiao Tian stopped, turned around, and waited for the opponent to state his intentions.

After catching his breath for quite a while, the tall man finally managed to compose himself and then stood up, cupping his hands as he said, ”I’m Yuan Deyi. Please, brother, hear me out.”

Xiao Tian didn’t show any expression, nor did he move his feet, apparently agreeing temporarily to Yuan Deyi’s proposal.

”How about we make a deal?” Yuan Deyi looked at Xiao Tian with immense confidence, as if he was certain Xiao Tian would listen and accept his terms.

Seeing Yuan Deyi’s posture, Xiao Tian’s interest was piqued. He raised an eyebrow and said, ”Let’s hear it.”

”It’s simple. Your recent actions caused me to lose face in front of my subordinates. I just need you to let me regain it, that’s all.”

Yuan Deyi smiled, ”As a reward, I can agree to divert our men, saving you some trouble later. It’s mutually beneficial for both of us!”

Hearing Yuan Deyi’s words, Xiao Tian truly began to see him in a new light. Initially, he thought this guy was an extremist, ready to perish together over a slight disagreement. He hadn’t expected such cunning intelligence.

After pondering for a moment, Xiao Tian asked, ”How do you plan to regain your face?”

”Just let me defeat you. Don’t worry, we’re only acting. You just need to pretend to cough up some blood and escape afterward.” Yuan Deyi explained, ”After that, you don’t need to worry about anything. I’ll handle the rest.”

Seeing his sincere demeanor, not seeming to fake it, Xiao Tian thought for a moment and agreed, ”Alright, but before that, you must answer one question for me.”

Xiao Tian dared to agree because he had methods to ensure he wouldn’t be deceived by Yuan Deyi. If the other party acted according to their agreement, Xiao Tian would naturally play along. But if Yuan Deyi tried anything, Xiao Tian wouldn’t hesitate to retaliate!

”Go ahead!” Seeing Xiao Tian readily agree, Yuan Deyi seemed in much better spirits, patting his chest and saying, ”As long as it’s something I know, naturally I won’t hide it.”

Though he said this, Xiao Tian knew that such a low-tier person couldn’t possibly know any important secrets. He wasn’t looking to uncover any crucial information, just verifying a few puzzling points.

”What exactly was that giant creature earlier?” Xiao Tian stared into Yuan Deyi’s eyes, asking. He believed the other knew something. From the way Yuan Deyi and his men reacted upon seeing the gigantic creature, such knowledge was evident.

Yuan Deyi answered candidly, ”A newly developed Biochemical Beast by the organization. You probably know its power better than I do. We use our unique Protective True Qi to ensure we aren’t accidentally harmed. Beyond that, I’m unaware.”

Xiao Tian nodded inwardly. From Yuan Deyi’s account and Adison Claire’s previous explanation, it was likely that the giant creature was indeed the mysterious tea-colored entity.

With his suspicions confirmed, Xiao Tian decided not to waste more time, waving his hand and saying, ”Let’s begin.”

As soon as he spoke, hurried footsteps like a drumbeat faintly approached, indicating that dozens of members from the Water Drop Organization were closing in.

Yuan Deyi nodded vigorously, his face changing to one of grim determination. Blood, whether real or fake, oozed from the corner of his mouth, and he swung his fists like wind, fiercely attacking Xiao Tian.

While marveling at Yuan Deyi’s superb acting skills, Xiao Tian also cooperated by appearing to be on the defensive, feigning clumsiness, as loud thudding sounds of hard-hitting attacks echoed around.

In less than half a minute, Liu had led the group to the scene. Seeing Xiao Tian struggling to hold his ground, Liu immediately ordered, ”Get him!”

From behind, dozens of subordinates responded in unison...
