Chapter 915: Chapter 911: Trapped in the Laboratory

After he’d run about seven or eight laps around the manor’s main building, Xiao Tian still hadn’t shaken off the gigantic creature behind him that clung to him like a wind-and-fire wheel, and instead, under the corrosion of its sticky slime, a trench-like ring of ravines had formed around the main building.

Running in the ravine that was already up to his calves, Xiao Tian sensed a gust of wind at the back of his head, hurriedly bent down, and saw dark green slime sweep over his head, shooting straight into the perimeter wall.

This situation made Xiao Tian silently curse nonstop. He had originally planned to harass the giant creature with True Qi while running, but hadn’t expected the other side to attack while chasing. From the look of things, he was already in a sorry state.

However, just then, the follow-up squad from the Water Drop Organization arrived to make matters even worse.

More than ten people came as well. After entering the manor and seeing the total devastation, with the ground pitted almost every step, they were all a bit slow to react.

But once the follow-up squad saw that gigantic creature, they immediately understood a bit, and then couldn’t help being astonished—this guy was actually that powerful!

A moment later, after the dozen or so people who’d just arrived regrouped smoothly with the earlier squad of more than ten, a burly, towering man stepped forward and asked loudly, ”Have you found the person we’re supposed to catch?”

The earlier leader who’d been giving orders was stunned on the spot, then caught sight of the three-man team he’d just ordered to go search. His face instantly went cold. ”Zhou the Third, Wang Chengjian, Yang Dongsheng—why are you three bastards still standing here?”

”...”

The three of them were immediately tongue-tied, not knowing how to explain themselves at that moment.

Different from the leader’s anger and frustration, the newly arrived squad, upon seeing that the advance team hadn’t earned any merit yet, all exchanged glances and clearly saw the delight in each other’s eyes.

They had originally thought they’d just be cleaning up the aftermath, picking at leftovers from others’ meal, but who would’ve thought that after so long, the ones who moved first had actually left the big feast for them.

With that in mind, the crowd that had still been somewhat disgruntled suddenly found Zhou the Third and the others’ squad incredibly lovable.

”Sounds good to me, Liu. I thought you were going to hog all the credit for yourself, didn’t expect you’d leave the big chunk for your brother here.”

As he spoke, the burly squad leader who’d arrived later laughed and said, ”Don’t worry! This time you and I, brothers joining forces, we’ll let those behind us see that we’re not pushovers either!”

The leader referred to as Liu already had a face as black as the bottom of a pot. He practically wanted to kill Zhou the Third and the other two on the spot, but in the end, it was his own failure to supervise properly. At least on the surface, he couldn’t openly blame them.

Swallowing his frustration, Liu roared hoarsely, ”What are you three bastards still looking at? Hurry up and get in there and bring me Adison Claire!”

Zhou the Third and the others hurriedly agreed and were just about to cross the ravine toward the main building’s interior when they were enthusiastically dragged back by a few men.

”What’s the rush? We brothers haven’t seen each other in so long, we’ve got to have a proper catch-up this time.”

”Exactly, exactly! Last time we met was half a year ago, right? How’ve you been these six months?”

”Come, come, come, let’s go over there, have a smoke and take a breather. The target’s inside anyway, she’s not going anywhere.”

...

Seeing Zhou the Third, Wang Chengjian, and the others being forcefully dragged back by the burly man’s subordinates, Liu snapped angrily, ”What’s the meaning of this?!”

”No big meaning, we’re just saying if we’re going to search, we search together. Share blessings, share hardships. If there’s any danger inside, we can look out for each other...”

Before he could finish, he saw Liu, without a word, flicker a few times and already appear at the main building’s front doors, then charge in at the head of the pack.

Liu’s move left everyone else a little slow to react. After a long moment, the burly man cursed under his breath and said, ”All of you, get in there and search. Whoever finds her first, I’ll promote him to my deputy!”

With that, he also rushed in right behind.

With both squad leaders already charging, their subordinates naturally couldn’t just stand by and watch, so they swarmed in after them, leaving the gigantic creature and Xiao Tian still locked in combat on the outskirts.

This made Xiao Tian a bit anxious. With more than twenty people searching every room in the main building, it wouldn’t take long, and once they realized Adison Claire wasn’t inside, things would get troublesome.

With that thought, while dodging the attack coming from behind, Xiao Tian began thinking furiously, searching for a countermeasure.

In the midst of his sprint, Xiao Tian unintentionally caught sight of a rather conspicuous structure on a patch of open ground—that was where Adison Claire’s underground laboratory was located.

His eyes lit up. Cutting into an arc, Xiao Tian leaped out of the ravine and sprinted nonstop toward the black iron door.

Reaching the iron door, Xiao Tian immediately grabbed it open and vanished from the surface in a blur.

By the time he reached the laboratory and hadn’t even had a chance to catch his breath, there was a loud bang behind him. He knew that the gigantic creature had followed.

However, because the underground laboratory’s passageways were narrow and the giant creature’s body was enormous, even curled up it would be hard-pressed to get in, which bought him a temporary breather.

While Xiao Tian was rummaging around, thinking to use his own knowledge to jury-rig some improvised dangerous concoctions to attack the gigantic creature and save on True Qi, he suddenly sensed something was off.

He saw a stream of dark green, viscous substance flowing slowly down the staircase at the entrance like a small creek, accumulating more and more, quickly spreading out.

Xiao Tian was startled and immediately grabbed a long glass beaker from a nearby shelf and hurled it over, with a crisp crack.

The yellow liquid in the beaker came into contact with the dark green, viscous substance spreading across the floor and began bubbling like a swamp, emitting a pungent, nasty stench.

Not understanding what was happening and pressed by the situation, Xiao Tian grabbed all the colorful stuff on the shelf and dumped them over in one go. A mixture of multiple elements slowly fused together, emitting crackling explosive sounds.

Although Xiao Tian wasn’t an expert in this field, he did understand some basic common sense and knew that what he was doing was extremely dangerous. The slightest misstep could lead to all kinds of unexpected outcomes.

As the crackling explosions grew more frequent, the entire underground lab became as lively as if someone had lit an entire string of firecrackers, while the dark green viscous substance continued to gather at a leisurely but steady pace.

For a while, the explosions grew louder and louder, splattering liquid everywhere. Wherever it landed on instruments, it damaged them, sparks flashing like the end of the world.

Dozens of instruments of various sizes all sounded their alarms at once. The large overhead light flickered a few times, then shattered with a crash, yet the underground laboratory did not fall into darkness.
